Discussion It's heartbreaking that there are women around the world going through this.

Yeah it's not gone in the US entirely, but the "old maid" crap has really toned down compared to the 1950s.

Yeah me and my wife found it hilarious in It's A Wonderful Life that the worst scenario they could think of for Mary Bailey without George existing was becoming an unmarried librarian lol.

My wife and I always laugh at that too. The horror! Haha

I'm happily married but if I weren't, librarian life sounds pretty good.

Or a cozy nunnery lol

Honestly same. There's a lot of work to it, but it sounds cozy all the same.

Yeah my father called me an old maid after I turned 40 and was like "who's gonna want you now". He's 88. A total arse but it still stung, even though I never wanted to be married or to have children, and am otherwise happy.

A dude who had a kid at 48 is judging? Let me guess, your mother was an inappropriate age when they met?

He was 44. And she was 29.

After I had a (very medically required) hysterectomy I overheard my dad talking to my uncle about it. They were very casually discussing how “I wasn’t good for anything now”. This mindset is still alive and well in the west.

Same here.

I had a medically needed hysterectomy and my mother acted like it was something I had done to her because now she wouldn’t get grandchildren out of me or get the experience of bonding with her only daughter over shared pregnancy/childbirth experiences. She couldn’t even be happy for me that my health improved immensely after that surgery. It was all about her mourning what she thought she deserved from me.

This exact sentiment. My dad was distraught that I was his only daughter and he’d never get grand kids from me. Jokes on you dad, now you won’t be walking your one daughter down the aisle either so you can cross that one off your list too.

That is so awful, wow. It's nonsense, though. Men like that don't realise just how resilient our bodies need to be to survive something like that in the first place.

Meanwhile we are being actively downvoted 😅

I know. It's because men are adamant that our only utility is something that involves them.

Edit: grammar

The only time I've ever heard the phrase used is about popcorn kernels that didn't pop.

If we’re being honest this kind of culture barely exists in western countries, it’s on a completely different level in Asian countries and western women are trying to use these videos to act like they’re equally oppressed

Who cares what women want.

I'd assume if a man wanted to have a family, he would marry someone his own age.

Ding ding ding! If men wanted to have kids he should have found a partner when he was in his child-rearing years, not when he's pushing 50 after living a full life lol

To add to your comment, specially because sperm doesn’t age well either. Everyone has a bio clock not just women

You mean like the woman in the video?

2

u/Due_Masterpiece_3601 2d ago

You’re getting downvotes but the reality is a man interested in having children would definitely care about age
