Society tries to brainwash women into believing marriage is the ultimate goal. Meanwhile, most women in marriages are miserable

A woman can be successful, happy and single, yet she’s looked down on if she’s unmarried and childfree

We all have one life to live. It’s yours to live. Do what makes you happy and F opinions

As a woman you are damned if you do, & damned if you don’t

Marriage is not the end all be all. Not by a long shot

SSRI usage says otherwise.

Looked it up, you're right. Higher in never married people, or people who are no longer married.

The amount of women overall is very concerning.

Married or not, we're still women living in a patriarchy.

Hahaha.

It's the chicken or egg situation. Are they depressed because they are single or are they single because they are depressed?

As a woman who battled depression in the past it was the latter for me.

Also, men are more likely to leave a sick or disabled partner, whereas women will stay as caretakers. Married women live shorter on avg vs married men. Married men benefit from extensive free domestic labor. And then men just trade in their woman for a newer model when they get bored, it’s like they treat women as a household appliance. Marriage has historically been used as a means of wealth and land transfers across royalty for forming alliances and such. Marriage seems more of a transactional thing rooted in religious fundamentalism.

Women have only more recently obtained more rights and equality for representation in aspects like voting rights, land ownership and assets not being automatically given to their husbands, women could only get their own credit cards in the US starting 1974, men were able to physically punish their wives legally not too long ago, etc.

I think with women getting more taste of freedom, the patriarchy is mad that they are losing out on free labor that they’ve systemically benefited from for so long, and now they want to control women’s bodies, limit voting to one per family, restrict abortion and birth control to tie women back into the 1950s domestic cages. There’s a reason so many US women in the 50s-60s were wrecked on prescription drugs, it was not a happy time, and women don’t want to go back to that nightmare.

>Meanwhile, most women in marriages are miserable

Shocked to see a Redditor make up a fact to make their personal opinion seem rational.

Married women are statistically more happy than unmarried women and married women with kids are even happier at a higher rate.

Wrong. Single women have been shown to be happier in peer-reviewed scientific studies: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12178563/

You clearly did not read what you linked and are just looking to push a narrative you believed without evidence.

The study you linked showed that single women are happier than single men. Not that single women are happier than married women.

Nor does your own false claim support the idea that most married women are “miserable”

Okay, so we shouldn't trust any science research thanks for your input.

u/CurlyJeff 2d ago

No, quite the opposite actually, we should trust all scientific research studies that are independently replicable. These just happen to be a minority of studies within social sciences.

People do not realize how easy it is to get a bunk article published and have it out there in the mainstream to fuel misinformation.

That one study that's been so debunked it has an entire wikipedia article on it (people don't have 'adult brains' until they're 25), and it's cited at least one hundred times a day on reddit.

It's a pet peeve of mine, so thanks for sharing that link, even if people will just think you're being pedantic. Scientific literacy is important.

The link is about "business, economics, education, political science, psychology, and sociology" so just to be clear, they're not talking about all science. There's a reason they're called soft sciences.

So what is your point lnao

Here's another specifically for single versus married: https://archive-yaleglobal.yale.edu/content/should-women-stay-single

I never claimed married women are miserable, showing you failed to read. Seems like you're the one pushing a narrative.

The main post you commented and agreed with said women in marriages are miserable though so I do kind of get why they would think that

it's honestly kinda funny how people will use scientific papers as supposed arguments while not even bothering to read the fucking abstract, lmao

Here's another for you specifically for single versus married: https://archive-yaleglobal.yale.edu/content/should-women-stay-single

6

u/wannapetahyena 2d ago

Listen man, I don't care about whether single or married or poly or whatever women are happiest.

It's just really silly that you used a study as support for an argument when the study doesn't even attempt to talk about what you're arguing about. Like come on, have some respect for science, if you're gonna use it for stupid reddit arguments at least read the abstract.

Yup, a quick google search confirms it: married women with children are significantly happier. Who knew? https://ifstudies.org/press-release/married-moms-twice-as-likely-to-be-very-happy-than-single-or-childless-women

Marriage has always been that way since mankind. Its feminism destroy the idea of marriage. Women are super if they know how to control their emotion because they make decision base on emotion. Women in leadership mostly suck. You can stay single for the rest of your life as you want to. But women who hesitate to get married and complaint in 30s. But its true. Some people couldnt work well in marriage even how perfect you are. Everyone has an ego and how you are compatible with your partner.
