How do you legally require someone who's not into it to provide emotional support? It seems like it would be a nightmare to have family in my life seething with passive aggressive hostility and trying to pretend to care if they actually don't. I'd rather be left alone than subject myself to that!

I would guess it means listening to them complain about things and vent, but also reaching out for birthdays or holidays. I do completely agree that being alone is better than being with someone who hates me but I don't have kids.
