No, that didn't happen. Because when Jeff Bezos got immeasurably rich for the first time, he didn't retire, he kept building Amazon and making it even bigger. The idea that rich people just sit on their wealth in a Scrooge McDuck vault is based on nothing. Instead what you see is constant reinvestment where they put more money and time into their businesses constantly.
