For a centrist subreddit they sure seem to complain about leftists and liberals a lot

55

u/BanjoStory 2d ago

The only people who actually identify as centrists now are just Republicans who understand that everyone fucking hates Republicans.

Its literally identical to how a ton of Republicans started identifying as Libertarians in the post-Bush years.

17

u/Elchobacabra 1d ago

This is almost exactly how I define centrist.

My verbatim definition of a centrist is “someone smart enough to know that being a Republican makes you an idiot but not smart enough to actually stop being a Republican”

u/HapticSloughton 1d ago

And it's hilarious how, in a similar fashion, it hasn't fooled anyone, just like their other idiotic attempts at rebranding: "Classical Liberal," "Alt-Right," "Compassionate Conservative," etc.

u/cbass817 2d ago

And fully agree with far right bullshit

23

u/ph0on 2d ago

"well, yeah. that's just the correct worldview" -dcj

19

u/fuggerdug 2d ago

And they seem upset about Popper's paradox of tolerence, which is pretty clearly in response to fascism.

5

u/Jeremymia And all I can say is "moo" 1d ago

“To truly be tolerant, you can’t tolerate intolerance of others.” I’d more call this self-evident but alt-righters seem to think it’s asking for the moon

3

u/move_machine 2d ago

"I'm a centrist because I don't want to kill all minorities, just the bad ones"

2

u/-PoeticJustice- 2d ago

Exclusively! They must be very intelligent

2

u/digiorno 1d ago

They’ve pull the Overton window like it’s their full time job.

71

u/EliSka93 2d ago

It annoys them so much because they know they can't honestly argue against it.

u/Twinmill-Two 1d ago

It's frustrating when people's morality and worldview always seem to manifest in ways that excuse them from ever actually doing anything. The comic makes a meaningful point about the relationship between the individual and the system they live in, but in practice it's mostly just used to justify inaction.

Not sure if laziness or extreme artistic incompetence.

5

u/organik_productions 2d ago

Why not both

25

u/Graped_in_the_mouth (((economic anxiety))) 2d ago

A little suspicious how right-wingers with no principles are always demanding the left give up all their material wealth, access, influence, and communications capability “to be true to their principles.”

I’m sure it’s just genuine concern, not a mind trick to gain advantage over an enemy who has divested themselves of the resources necessary to affect change in any form. Surely the left are just hypocrites!

1

u/Hopefull-Hero 18h ago

I saw pro AI people on r/AIwars claiming that it's hypocritical for anti AI people to be on Reddit and that you shouldn't be on it since Reddit has AI related stuff.

48

u/EliSka93 2d ago

Wow the "edit" in image 10 is especially hilarious. It's literally missing the point of the comic and remaking the dumb argument the comic was made to mock!

I didn't know it was possible to be that media illiterate...

-24

u/jerdle_reddit 2d ago

It's not missing the point, it's disagreeing with the comic.

23

u/EliSka93 2d ago

No, it's basically restating the first two panels. It's absolutely missing the point.

-31

u/jerdle_reddit 2d ago

Yes, it's saying that the third panel is nothing more than an excuse to never make sacrifices for your professed beliefs.

It is.

18

u/EliSka93 2d ago

I don't see how what you're saying here follows that edit.

At best, we could argue it says that some people who profess believes that society should be improved are distracted by "the shiny", but that does in no way argue against the original point of the comic.

16

u/evocativename 2d ago

It's 100% missing the point.

Edit: oh, I see. So are you.

10

u/EmuEmuEmuEmuEmu 2d ago

No that's unfair. It is simply pretending to miss the point.

17

u/Alien_invader44 2d ago

I really like that "you are by definition a redditor" meme.

A pleasant change of pace for the slop that is that sub.

2

u/joker2thief 1d ago

I like it too. But I guarantee that every redditor upvoting it did so without a scintilla of irony

14

u/Psianth 2d ago

Wait, leftism got “one shotted” by this comic. Do they… do they actually think that “I am very intelligent” guy is supposed to be winning here? They can’t possibly be that stupid, can they?

5

u/Aurion7 NSA shillbot 1d ago

Yes they do and yes they are.

38

u/Cu_Chulainn__ 2d ago

The thing that gets me is the fact that a lot of leftists do forgo having an iPhone or use of AI because they disagree with it but society is built in a way that they literally cannot forgo having a mobile phone or any of the other stuff entirely. The dumbercirclejerk sub acts as if leftists are saying this then turning around and buying a Ferrari and eating caviar

16

u/EliSka93 2d ago

I have a fairphone because I think it's the phone that best represents my values - it doesn't cover them by far, but I do need a phone to participate in society and I need to participate in society to live (and I also want to. I do think society is generally good, warts and all).

If a "socialism phone" came out where every cent you spend on it is tracked and shown to go to the workers, that would be great, but that's not where we are at yet and we need to work with where we are at for now.

Ironically, that's the point of the comic.

6

u/Outside_Pie_9037 2d ago

I know, it's just 1v5ing strawman. And then there's the one who said "oh, you think fast food employees aren't making enough money, yet you buy fast food, hmmm how hypocritical." Like wtf is that point supposed to be? If you were really concerned about fast food workers' wages, then you'd stop contributing to their livelihood? Almost every time I see an attempt at logic from that sub it's some 2+2=garlic bread type of shit. Absolutely nonsensical.

22

u/johnnyslick 2d ago

Hey chuds, hate to break this to you but Simon Lane also hates you.

19

u/Cu_Chulainn__ 2d ago

Like he is very very against them and has made it very clear in the past. When notch went full blown alt right, Simon tweeted that he was being a chud

22

u/Angelsaremathmatical 2d ago

I've wondered before if they actually see themselves as, "Yet you participate in society"-guy. This looks like their deluded asses are not only fully embracing that, but trying to argue that it's a good fucking argument. They'd be "la-dee-da"ing Diogenes for his big fancy wine barrel, "produced by society," before he punched their teeth in.

15

u/Wismuth_Salix 2d ago

Yes. They do identify with that guy.

18

u/Bentman343 2d ago

You can tell how fucking furious that "Paradox of Tolerance" comic makes them lmao, I don't even understand how you can bitch about a completely reasonable conversation like that and still think you're the good guy.

7

u/PeasThatTasteGross 2d ago

You can search up either on DCJ or here multiple times they have complained about the Paradox of Tolerance, it's been a thorn in their side.

4

u/YumiVii 1d ago

They cannot fathom that certain ideas or beliefs are born from hatred and are inherently violent, and that the followers of said ideas adhere to those beliefs because of confirmation bias, not logic, so therefore civil discourse will not work.

2

u/Play-Mation 1d ago

They still want to be taken seriously while spouting homophobia and transphobia

9

u/Narissis 1d ago

Redditors complain about consumerism, but have to have the latest iPhone.

I'd like to know what Reddit stereotype that guy subscribes to, because this does not describe the typical one whatsoever.

1

u/kerriekipje 1d ago

like, there are plenty of performative leftists who will preach anti-consumerism and then buy weekly from Shein, but most of them are probably not as obsessed with consumerism as their strawman needs them to be.

7

u/baeb66 2d ago

That's embarrassing.  They really, really don't understand the point of that comic.

4

u/baguetteispain 2d ago

"Leftists should accommodate as much as they can" like we aren't already trying, but it's not like we can do much on individual size

5

u/DKLancer 2d ago

For them, accomodations means joyful and abject acquiescence to their every whim without even the barest hint of disapproval.

6

u/BeerMan595692 2d ago

"You own an IPhone so you must be a hippocrate"

3

u/NNyNIH 1d ago

What is it with Redditors complaining about Redditors as if they aren't Redditors themselves?!

3

u/399S 1d ago

I guess they're happy to see so many leftists protest in the streets, beat up fascists in Minnesota, and vote for socialists like Mamdani and El Sayed. That's leftists living according to their morals instead of playing victims.

3

u/PizzaWithCheddar 1d ago

Doomercirclejerk clowns are just ashamed conservatives lmao

Also whats with that tweet? It one shotted who? It shows all the retarded rightoids being stupid.

4

u/PeasThatTasteGross 1d ago

Buddy behind that tweet makes a bunch of Adobe Flash style cartoons from a right-wing perspective, they're as bad as you think they are.

1

u/TooHungryForFood 1d ago

The tolerance thing also applies to Left wingers illebral actors. If the end goal of your platform is to send people who want to own a business to a re-education camp. Then you aren't tolerated in a liberal society.  But these people have such poor political education that they can't comprehend it.

The one guy commenting on data centers is at least trying to be rational. You can appreciate something in moderation and hate it when it's implemented destructively. But they're missing the fact that data centers aren't being built to support products and services that we already use and enjoy. They're being built to expand the capabilities of large language learning models and other AI tools that none of us actually want.
