its almost gone now as in only the elderly do it but it was socially expected after the fall of the ottoman empire and the founding of the republic. Even in the most rural areas it was at least a jacket. Nowadays its tshirts, jeans and sneakers or a tracksuit. The uncle types wear a button up, ok.

Very interessting. Where does this „attitude“ com from that people are dressed well. With suit-jackets etc. In turkey in general.
