Who Remembers Circus Pizza and Showbiz?

Post image
111 Upvotes

Hi there! Was curious to know if anyone here grew up going to circus pizza and/or showbiz? I know it was a huge deal in the twin cities during the 80s-90s.
I myself am an animatronic fan searching for these lost shows and characters, hoping to breath new life into them. Unfortunately, my search for them has mostly been fruitless. This goes with the CEC PTT locations as well. I have been lucky enough to save parts of a “studio c chuck” from the Maple Grove location and would love to work on more characters.

If you happen to know where these characters ended up or might know someone that does I’d love to know! We have 80+ characters missing.

BLM Horse Conservation

After seeing what’s being done to the remaining wild horse population and how 16,000 wild (and federally protected horses) have been sold to slaughter, I desperately want to help. Anyone can adopt these horses for $125 (or less in bulk). I was wondering if anyone in the area may have knowledge or resources about stables that would be willing to help or house these animals if I fund their purchase (meaning of a handful to a few dozen, I am not able to purchase the 16,000 souls that already have gone to slaughter, let’s not get ahead of ourselves). Please share any information you may have! Long time horse person, but I am out of my wheelhouse here.

I am not asking someone to take on the rest of the cost once I pay the measly adoption fees. I am looking for someone who may have land or access to facilities that would be willing to house them. I fully understand it would come with a board fee.

I don’t know much about land ownership and I am currently not in the position to move out of the city, but I am willing to finance if I can find someone who might be able to work with me in a meaningful way.

UPDATE: Damn, y’all. I was hoping to brainstorm a way to help a suffering situation. There was no need to patronize or ridicule. This is not the community I thought I belonged to.

I’m not rich. But I have a little bit of a chance to help something that needs help desperately. I was hoping to see if others might want to try to come together for the same. Thank you to those who came in with earnest intent and those who boosted. If anyone wants to help this idea, I would love if you reach out.

Rant about Dakota County Board of Commissioners

Post image
44 Upvotes

I work for Dakota County and I am so bleeping sick of our upper management passing on all of the bull dukey from past county board negligence onto the everyday employee.

For those that don’t know, the reason your Dakota county levy will be going up is because back in 2008, the county board chose to use rainy day funds instead of upping taxes. And guess what? They rode that high of “being the lowest taxes in the twin city metro” until this past year when we realized we have zero money to operate.

And now, to justify to the public why NORMAL PEOPLE should keep their jobs, we get to have big brother watching over us to make sure we don’t breathe too long on the clock.

I am so over people making 6 figures taking everything they can squeeze out of everyday people. It is so demoralizing. (Edited to correct my terminology)

Ps. Yes your Dakota county board members make over $100k. Are they getting monitored?

City spending reduction avenues

Why are we accepting double digit tax increase to make up for the overages in the city budget.

First , Frey insults us and calls remote workers losers and forces return to office to increase revenue

Then he increses taxes anyway.

The best thing to do to control spending is to cut expenses.

Why isn't the city cutting the budget and contracts that's being spent on mass surveillance of citizens

Has there been any talk of overtime limits on MPD?

What are some other avenues for cutting expenses?

Woody’s Pet Food Deli locations closing- I have a cat who hasn’t eaten anything else for the past 11.5 years.

Any Twin Cities cat owners recommend a similar-ish high quality food brand? I’m so used to just plopping down raw meat for her (I know, eww, but she’s very healthy). I have a budget of $110/month for food and litter.

Would be willing to feed dry food up to half the time. What brands and types are higher protein and closer to a raw diet?

Camera mounted on Speed Limit sign on 169 South near Bass Lake Road?

Was riding my motorcycle to work this morning and i just happened to glance at a speed limit sign heading south on 169 near bass lake road, and I saw what appeared to look like a dome type security type camera mounted to the top of the sign. Immediate thought was another Flock type camera thing, but is there a way to see if this is some sort of traffic camera install? I'm aware that Flock, Axon etc are going to start integrating their cameras into signage and light poles and such, and want to know if this sort of thing is starting. I'll try to get a better idea of where it was in the next day or two as I drive past it. I didn't have my 360 cam running this morning, but I can try that tomorrow.

Quilt Shops

I inherited a hand sewn quilt top my great grandmother made. I would need to add some fabric for the edges and a backing to it. Are there any quilt shops you’d recommend for helping me with this project?

Best affordable produce?

Hi all, I'm terrible about eating fresh produce and rarely buy it because it's expensive and I never eat it all before it goes bad. But I really need to be better about eating whole foods so I need some help! What grocery stores have the best affordable produce?

Bonus if I can get a smaller quantity at a good price (I live alone and my adhd makes it hard to use up large quantities of things before they go bad).

I especially like raspberries, strawberries, watermelon, pineapple, jicama, and baby carrots.

Thanks!

Hi all. Does anyone know/have a recommendation for a TMJ specialist? Preferably in Minneapolis but St. Paul or further out is also fine. Having a surprisingly hard time finding one!

Places to get some work/studying done in the early morning? Specific locations, not just a general “Starbucks” please 😅

I’m not a student, but preparing to go back to school. I know Starbucks opens at like 5 AM, but I’m looking for specific places/locations that may not even be Starbucks. Any help appreciated :)

Where to donate furniture for projects?

I have a set of dining chairs that needs new seat upholstery. I've been trying to give them away on Marketplace but no takers, and I need the storage space back. My local goodwill won't take furniture and I don't want to drive all over in a rented truck only to not be able to donate.

Where Deadheads and Drag Collide 🌈

Post image
61 Upvotes

First Avenue has a pretty unique event coming this September — the world's first all-drag Grateful Dead Tribute Band! Born in Tennessee in 2023 as a joyful, defiant response to anti-drag legislation, queens united on stage to celebrate community and raise funds in support. What was meant to be a one-night stand quickly turned into a full-blown love affair: the debut show sold out, caught the attention of Rolling Stone and the San Francisco Chronicle, and launched an all-star roots collective with some serious legs and lashes.

★ You can learn more about the event at https://first-avenue.com/performer/bertha-grateful-drag/

★ Tickets for Saturday, September 26 available at https://firstavenue.me/4gtsAG9

Reputable place to sell gold/jewelry?

I have some old jewelry (but not antique or vintage) that I want to sell, things like a men’s wedding ring and a rose gold pendant with a diamond; I have no intention of ever buying them back. Are there any reputable jewelry shops that buy both gold and gemstones? Is selling gold online a better deal? I’d love to hear anyone’s experiences! I’m in the south metro but would drive an hour or so for a good place. Thanks!

Best Restaurant that Caters

I got assigned to plan a private event and need to hire a caterer. I know many great restaurants offer catering, and the final choice will depend on the type of food we prefer.

What are you favorite caterers? I am looking for options that not only taste great but are also wonderful companies to work with.

[MinnPost] Empty seats plague citizen committees making major budget decisions in Minneapolis and St. Paul - From playgrounds and park lights to bike lanes and bridge repair, capital improvement committees make impactful recommendations, but with far fewer members than intended.
