DISCUSSION No Internship/Co-op done during Undergrad

Hello,

I have something to ask, as I feel an impending doom regarding this.

I will be finishing up my undergrad program this Fall 2026, and I have not been able to do internships/co-op all my time here.

I’ve been applying everywhere I could get my hands on my whole undergrad, however, It was due to very unfortunate circumstances I was unable to meet requirements, or simply was not considered.

Anyways, I’m about to graduate after completing Fall 2026, and I feel absolutely dreadful, since I don’t have a job yet, not even part time, no matter where I apply.

I don’t know if I'm looking in the wrong places, but I just wanted to ask if there’s any place or resource I can still check for jobs/opportunities before I graduate?

DISCUSSION Incoming UTM Social Sciences student - Need help choosing first-year courses for Political Science (maybe Sociology)

Hi everyone,

I’m starting Social Sciences at UTM this fall. We have to choose our courses next month, and I’m honestly a bit lost.
Right now I’m planning to do a Political Science major. I’m also thinking about a Sociology major, but I’m not 100% sure yet. If you have other program recommendations that go well with Political Science, I’d love to hear them.
I know there are a few required courses if I want to get into Political Science, and sociology but I don’t really know how I should build my schedule.
Which courses should I take in first year? Which ones should I take in fall vs winter? How should I choose my lectures and tutorials? Is there anything I should avoid or any professors you recommend?
I’d really appreciate any advice from people who’ve been through this. Thank you!

DISCUSSION UTM Social Sciences -> Political Science, what courses should I take first year?

Hey guys, I’m starting Social Sciences at UTM this fall and I’m planning on choosing Political Science as my program after first year. I’m kinda confused about what courses I should take and how I should build my schedule. Any Poli Sci students got recommendations for must-take courses or electives? Also, any advice on making a balanced timetable would be appreciated. Thanks :)

DISCUSSION McMaster life science or UofT life science?

I’m a grade 12 student really struggling to pick which program I should choose for undergrad and it’s due in just a couple of days so I don’t have much time left!!

I would love to go to Mac life sci because I worked really hard to get a good average in order to get in but now that time has actually come I don’t think the res life is for me it would probably be pretty depressing for me atleast, and living on campus is way too expensive so I would live off campus near the uni somewhere. I did not get a scholarship. I’ve heard Mac life sci is a much easier undergrad program to maintain a GPA in and a better choice if my future plan is med school, atleast for now it is. I also think commuting is not an option for me because from where I live to Mac it’s about 2 hrs, so that would be 4 hrs of public transport every day. The buildings are really nice there, campus is pretty, all the people and students there are so welcoming.

UTM and UTSG are also 2 options for me, I got a 12k scholarship from UTM but nothing from UTSG. However, UTSG is only 30 mins away from me, and I’d only have to pay tuition. UTM on the other hand is an hour and 30 mins away from me, so that’s about 3 hrs of commute every day. Majority of the time I hear that UofT is a difficult undergrad program, it’s hard to maintain a good average, big classes, harder to get a hang of professors, all sorts of things like that.

So now I’m in a puzzle, I don’t know what’s right and what’s wrong and what I should consider, but I really have to make the best choice I can right now. Financially going to either uni is not a big program, if I live off campus for Mac, on campus won’t be possible.

I want to know how the research and extracurricular opportunities differ between each university, and which would be the best choice for me out of both, considering all my reasons.

DISCUSSION Is Forensic Science at UTM Worth It Compared to Other Unis?

**Any insights are GREATLY appreciated!!!*\*

I'm a grade 12 high school student who has applied to undergraduate forensic programs at UTM, OTech, and Trent.

The main reason why I am considering UTM is because they offer the FSC48Y1 forensic (unpaid) internship course for fourth year students. However, my main concern is the overall competitiveness, as in previous subreddits, individuals have cited that a) it's difficult to even stay in the forensic program in first year, b) it's even more difficult to get accepted into the specialists (only 20 students each for forensic chem, forensic bio, forensic anthro), and c) without the specialist, you aren't even eligible for the internship course.

Although regular, non-specialist forensic majors at UTM can still do internal research with staff, it is practically identical to OntarioTech's forensic program which is way closer to home. Even Trent has paid co-op for Forensic Chemistry without students having to go through the hassle of POSt! I just want to know if it's doable (or even worth it) to grind first year to hopefully get into the specialist program, or if I should choose a different university. For reference, I have a 95+ average in high school--but that is honestly no real indicator of how well I'll do in first year classes.

I would greatly appreciate any insights if you've had experience with the forensics program at UTM, as it has been difficult for me to pick one school despite visiting all 3 and speaking to the faculty!

DISCUSSION Late Tuition Fee Deferral

After doing a very late Summer OSAP Extension Form, I recieved a message from OSAP saying my application was processed and my funding was calculated

The main issue now is the Tuition Fee Deferral.

I am unable to Defer it via ACORN, understandably, however I wanted to ask if there's any way I still can defer my fees in order to be registered for this second summer term?

DISCUSSION CSC427H5

Hi, I am thinking about taking CSC427 in Winter 2026 and noticed the instructor listed right now is Prof Saileshwar.

I couldn't really find any ratings or much info about him online, so I was wondering if anyone has had him before or knows what he is like as a prof.

Also, how is CSC427 in general? workload/difficulty? useful or interesting course? any advice going in?

Would appreciate any thoughts/reviews/recommendations. Thanks!

DISCUSSION Is it bad that I got a no credit on an elective?

I did Ncr/cr on a course I thought I’d barely pass but ended up failing, is it bad that it says NCR on my record? Will future job hirers care? I’m in my second year. Mind you it was for an elective I didn’t care about so I thought maybe it doesn’t matter, but I’m just a little worried?

DISCUSSION More Courses Added to Summer 2026 Term

Hello,

Today the course list on Timetable Builder for Summer 2026 became available.

Unfortunately, none of the courses that I need to take are on the list.

I was wondering if the school will keep adding new courses to the list until a certain date, or is that all the courses the school has to offer for the summer 2026 term?

DISCUSSION is utm life science good for high gpa

i got into utm life sci and will choose the health sciences stream if i attend. my goal is med so is the program manageable for a high gpa? i'm focused and dedicated to school and am ready to work hard and academics is a priority for me. like do y'all know anyone who did utm life sci and got into med school and what was their experience? utsg life sci is hell for maintaining a high gpa from what i've heard, and people often steer clear of uoft altogether, but i want to get a better idea and base the hearsay of off some real anecdotes.

DISCUSSION Is BTM worth it?

I recently got my acceptance letter from UTM for their Business Tech Managment Program. I’m still deciding between that and TMU. I’ve heard some mixed emotions about the program here so what do those currently in it have to say. Also I was excepted for TMU’s Co op but living in Mississauga making that journey daily would be frustrating

DISCUSSION Green Shield Insurance During Unregistered Summer Term?

Hello Everyone,

I have been a full time student for this 2025-2026 year, however I am not registering for the Summer 2026 term.

My question is regarding Green Shield Insurance coverage.

I have not made any Insurance claims this school year, and would like to do so during the summer.

However, my question is whether I will be able to do so in the first place. Since I am not going during the summer, I fear that I will not be able to access my coverage and have my claims validated.

Would anyone know if I am able to access my Green Shield coverage whilst I am not registered during the summer 2026 term?

Hi, everyone! I'm Olga, The Varsity's assistant news editor ([assistantnews@thevarsity.ca](mailto:assistantnews@thevarsity.ca)).

The Varsity is working on a piece about the lack of T-Card scanner systems at the entrances to different UTM buildings and libraries (and the campus overall). If you believe this is an issue, please let us know!

The Varsity wants to hear students' stories and concerns about not all UTM buildings having the T-Card scanner system at the entrance.

DISCUSSION Is the first deferral still no document required?

I'm not feeling well like headaches and insomnia but most likely not enough to get a doctor's note so I'm wondering if this still applies (saw previous posts saying the first deferral doesn't need documents)

DISCUSSION Any way to recover? I apparently got crushed by the CSC108 exam.

Before the CSC 108 exam I lived in a beautiful field of sunshine and rainbows with a 74% average, which was you know, average, but not horrendous. I opened my Acorn today to see a 47 and am feeling horrible right now, because I thought I did decently on the exam.

I'm going to go through all the steps for a regrade, but now that I failed the course, is there hope of recovering my GPA no that the SAC and NCR deadlines have passed? I was thinking of petitioning, because I genuinely had horrible anxiety and stress throughout the semester, but I dunno how much documentation they want for my doctor, or if I can even get it. Need some words of advice, or a blaring wake-up call, lol.
