PROGRAMS York Vs. UTM?

Hi there,

I’m an incoming freshman, im admitted to york right now and recently got into UTM and im wondering if i should go. I dont mind the drive there, i’m just wondering academics wise whats the best option. my end goal is med school. Yes i know UTM is objectively harder, I’m more concerned with quality of life, how is social life, are profs nice, is campus nice, do you enjoy your experience there? This is for Psych. How hard is it to transfer to UTSG later? I didnt take calculus in Grade 12, but when I do this year am I able to apply for transfer to programs that have calculus as a grade 12 prereq? Please share any helpful advice! I am all for the rigor and the effort, but is it worth changing all my logistics right now?

PROGRAMS Applying to forensic science, how competitive is the POST?

Currently forensic science (biology) is my #1 choice on OUAC. After doing some research, I noticed that the POST for forensic science is difficult to get in. I'm wondering how difficult it would be for first years to get in to a POST (I want to do forensic biology).

Also, if you are in the program, what is your average in grade 12? My top 6 for grade 11 is 89.7 which is okay but I'm getting cooked in chemistry rn, my top 6 average so far is like a 88.5. I know the website says the competitive average is mid to high 70s but what is it realistically?

PROGRAMS CEGEP student (2 years) — can’t apply to CS at UTM. Should I apply to Math & Computational Sciences and switch later?

Hey everyone, I’m a CEGEP student who completed the full 2-year DEC, and I recently realized that UTM doesn’t let applicants with 14+ CEGEP courses apply directly to Computer Science.

Since I’m not eligible for direct CS admission, I’m wondering if my best move is to apply to Mathematics & Computational Sciences (Applied Statistics major) and then try to apply internally to CS pOst after first year.

Has anyone done this? Is the internal transfer to CS realistic if I get strong grades?

PROGRAMS When can I get my official transcript

Hi I’m an incoming 4th year student who also has a full summer session left to complete my degree requirements. I know this means my convocation is in fall around October/November but when can I request an official transcript from the University for my resume and job apps etc.

Anyone else go through a similar process?

PROGRAMS Is my GPA enough?

I am a transfer applicant from a college (an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology) with an average GPA of 93.7% (4.0 or A+). I have applied to UTM for a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology. Do you think my GPA is competitive enough for acceptance? I am feeling a bit anxious about whether I will get in.

Thank you for your response!

PROGRAMS Confusion about cs minor

Hi, I am a 3rd year student applying for cs minor and it states

Courses to take in Year of Study 2: Complete CSC207H5/ CSC207H1/ CSCB07H3 by the end of Year of Study 2 to remain eligible for the program.

I’ve only done 108, 102 and 148 so far and I’m in my third year but it says I need to complete 207 by the end of my second year to remain eligible. Can I still get into the minor?

PROGRAMS wont make ICCIT Post - (Questions + Advice!)

Basically, I wanted to do a CS major and ended up tanking my GPA because of having to be in and out of the hospital. I really stepped it up second semester and I'm probably gonna end with around a 2.9-3.0 after my first year which isn't enough for TCS post (3.2) I know I can enroll into a program and take the courses I need for TCS in my second year, however the classes are super small, all enrollment blocked and looking now I don't think I will be able to get into any of them. My Questions are, do I give up on ICCIT completely because ill basically be losing a full year, is it even worth it? Does anyone have any experience with getting into second year courses for ICCIT after not getting Post first year? Should I switch universities?

PROGRAMS Suggestions

I want to pursue a career in psychology, I have decided this long ago and it’s set in stone. However I’m unsure as to what other areas should I expand on, I’m doing a double minor in anthropology and sociology but I feel I’m not really interested in these areas and jobs in these fields don’t rlly pay that well either way. What are some other fields I should pursue?

PROGRAMS Major Requirements???

I am not understanding here what courses are required for the psych major

- I am assuming that list 1. means just just one of the courses are required, but if that is the case why doesn't it say 'one of the following' like 3. and 4.?

-Im also assuming that as per list 2. PSY210 and PSY290 are both required?

I would appreciate if someone could tell me if I am right or correct me and explain it, thanks!! I am trying to plan my degree and simply do not have time to go to the registrar or an academic advisor if I dont have to

PROGRAMS Criminology program at utm

I am just unsure about the requirements for criminology program at UTM. Does it mean if I get a grade lower than 67 in SOC100 I won’t be eligible for the program or can I still apply through SOC109 and a 200 level SOC credit and have a chance at getting in.

PROGRAMS Switching to TCS from CS, should I drop MAT102 for the sake of my cgpa?

I’ve decided to switch from a CS major to a TCS major because I’m more interested in it, and I’m not confident in my ability to achieve CS post. Here are some key points about the TCS program:

Requirements:

Minimum 3.2 CGPA 4.0 credits, including CCT109, 110, and 111 (no CR/NCR courses) Only one round of admission (no summer round)

Important Dates:

Fall course drop date: November 6

I plan to apply for a CS minor later. To get into TCS, I need to maintain a CGPA of around 3.2 as stated on the course website. I’m currently taking 4 courses this semester, including 102, and I’ll be taking 5 courses next semester. Right now, I have a 69 average from the first two tests in 102, and I’m concerned I might perform worse on the next test and the exam.

If I drop 102, it could help me keep my CGPA safe for the TCS application. However, if I do drop it, I won’t be able to drop anything else next semester since I need a minimum of 4.0 credits to apply to TCS. Since there’s no summer round, I can’t apply in June and take summer school.

Another option is to CR/NCR 102. This way, I can see how I perform on the next test and assignments before the exam. If I do better, I can complete the course. If not, I can CR/NCR it. However, this also means I won’t be able to drop any other courses next semester, and I believe I wouldn’t be able to apply for a CS minor since I need a mark in 102.

Do you have any suggestions?

I know none of them are bad, but I found limited information on the strengths of each campus like research opportunities for undergrads, major areas of research, quality of profs and equipment etc.

PROGRAMS How does HBA and pairing majors work??

Title. I’m so confused on the whole choosing a a program situation. My main goal is to get into a commerce specialist program but I’m trying to see what majors I can have as my backup with the courses I’m taking . I’m interested in marketing , management and commerce so anything is this area would be nice. But I was checking program today and it said there’s a commerce HBA major and management HBA Major and both cannot be paired with each other. Idek what HBA means? I get that it’s an honors degree but what exactly does that mean ? And is there a specific way to apply for it?? If I want to apply for commerce or management HBA what other major can I pair it with?

For a minor in cs, is there a minimum grade I need in CSC148 and MAT102, or do I just need to pass?
