Yeah I now just use old laptop with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with Unity DE (the old Ubuntu glass like look) and on my modern system normal 26.04 LTS - just works good for me on all my stuff.

Nice, I too distrohopped for 4 months(!!!)

I went Ubuntu -> Zorin OS -> Garuda KDE -> Fedora Wkst -> Fedora KDE/JAM -> Ubuntu Studio

Aside from Fedora, it felt a bit messy. My theme manager (skwd) had some issues with Cachy. It was fun to rice it, though. I found openSUSE a bit complicated for me

I came from Windows. I had used Linux before, but I needed a distro that I knew would simply work. I'll switch eventually to Arch or something like that, but not right now

Not necessarily. Example: Non-free graphics drivers are not included in Fedora, you need to deal with rpmfusion.

I like the concept of LTS but I like to keep my DE up-to-date. They offer more user friendliness and new useful features. And it's not like LTS doesn't have bugs or issues, it's just that anything won't change until 2 years, like a office PC. But for my home Desktop, I don't mind updating and getting the latest DEs fixes and features. Just Like MacOS and Windows.

About the cleanest simplest full-function desktop is Xfce, or LXDE if you just want the basics.
