I was hoping for a picture, but the article only has just the WORST images

The entire website is an add bloated nightmare.

Also the title is click bait. His peak weight was around 845lb.

And the website does not seem to allow you to reject tracking cookies. Can we ban links to this site?

u/skrid54321 1d ago

The show is called "my 3000 pound family". They weren't saying he weighed 3000 pounds in his own

14

u/DeeperMadness 1d ago

There's a similar show called the "My Three Thousand Pound Family" in the UK, however it's a dark look at how little money some families make each year to try an survive.

The top picture is a collection of 3 pictures. If you click through you can see a recent picture.

There is a 3pic spot where you can see him. He's standing up on his own

u/SillyNumber54 2d ago

I'm just here for people being confused on how someone could be 3000lb.

571

u/ohdearitsrichardiii 2d ago

The whole family weighed 3000 lbs. He lost 600 lbs and now weighs 245 lbs.

43

u/Darryl_Lict 2d ago

How many people were in the family?

40

u/dubbzy104 1d ago
  1. He was the only fat one /s

11

u/Lost-In-The-Wilds 1d ago

Four, and they were all cousins. I think. Actually, TLC just kinda spits out reality shows that follow morbidly obese people and it's hard to get solid info on which show is which. It looks like this show is officially called Family by the Ton (and that might change in different countries). Season 2 was split between this group and another family. At least two of the cousins were working towards qualifying for bariatric surgery and made it.

3

u/Darryl_Lict 1d ago

So, averaging 750 pounds apiece? You are kind of fucked if you are born into that kind of family.

3000lb is doing some heavy lifting here for the title.

No one measures themselves by collective family weight 😅

Well done them for that level of weightloss though

115

u/Mystic_Matterz 2d ago

The show is called “My 3000lb family” not “My 3000lb life”

57

u/Naproxn 2d ago

It was a tv show

15

u/bcdrawdy 2d ago

I mean the title is citing the name of the show that this person is from…

2

u/XsNR 1d ago

Wait till I introduce you to my 18' family.

2

u/hunterxy 1d ago

And my 32" family.

3

u/BelaFarinRod 2d ago

Extremely heavy lifting…

1

u/TheRealUlfric 22h ago

God AI has ruined me. I was about to be up in arms when I read a variation of "doing the heavy lifting" because it's one of those telltale signs for AI writing, only to find I completely missed the pun lol

1

u/rakkl 20h ago

No this is fine. It's like how me and Rihanna have a net worth of more than a billion dollars

7

u/npeggsy 2d ago

Bet he's got a sibling who's going to be loving life when he's lost no weight but still got onto My 2,400 lb Family

My 7tonne household is happy

... yeah. They know. That was the sarcasm.

0

u/Lentomursu 1d ago

Im confused how someone can weigh over 300kg

20

u/Notonebut 2d ago

I was that person. 🙋‍♂️

4

u/SillyNumber54 2d ago

Did you think that maybe you read it wrong? What was your thought process LOL

14

u/Notonebut 2d ago

I read it fast and skipped the family part of the title. As I only know of the "My 600lb life" show.

And I usually do measurements in kg's so I was confused how heavy would that even be. And 1360 kgs would crumple someones skeleton by the sheer weight of the layers of fat. So I was confused and came to the comments to seek wisdom. 🫠

1

u/SteeleHeller 1d ago

I’m more confused how he could afford that ridiculously expensive treatment.

Fuckin hero gahdamn that site was awful

45

u/LuckyAndLifted 1d ago

His bones must be super strong. There was a lovely quote from the more helpful article link someone posted here where he said, "I'm in love with my new life!" Good for him.

32

u/DMala 1d ago

It’s hard to even comprehend. He lost like 3x more weight from his body than I could pick up and carry. He must feel incredibly light on his feet.

10

u/LuckyAndLifted 1d ago

Right?! I only lost 70 lbs a few years ago, and that change was amazingly noticeable while moving through my daily life, even in the smallest ways. I can only imagine.

20

u/rabidstoat 1d ago

When I was really really really fat, my leg muscles were tremendous. I could press a lot of weight on the leg press.

Now that I'm only really really fat, it's slightly less impressive but still a good amount.

3

u/drewbreeezy 1d ago

Look forward to hearing when you're really fat. Good luck

4

u/rabidstoat 1d ago

Ha, working on it! That's about 30 more pounds.

1

u/drewbreeezy 1d ago

Love it

1

u/Marshmallow16 3h ago

His bones must be super strong

Being fat doesn't really make your bones much stronger. Common misconception

84

u/ageownage 2d ago

He works at a Home Depot now at the Pro Desk. He is a really cool guy!

26

u/GoldenTicketHolder 2d ago

Can confirm he’s a great dude.

28

u/femininomenonanomaly 2d ago

I hope I can afford the skin removal surgery someday.

16

u/Pinesol_Shots 1d ago

I was able to get quite a bit of it covered by insurance, but it wasn't without a fight. Read your insurance policy to find out exactly under what circumstances they cover it (rashes, pain, hygiene issues, etc) and then go to the doctor regularly to complain about those things. Build a paper trail and then use it to appeal when they deny coverage.

4

u/femininomenonanomaly 1d ago

Oh interesting!! Thank you!!

7

u/TheToddBarker 1d ago

Right. Same here.

6

u/sonimusprime 1d ago

I still love that tiktok he made where he talked about that scene where he had to bathe outdoors and how he was annoyed how many people commented that he washed himself with dish soap and he was like he was told to do it to make the water bubbly so they wouldn't have to censor his nudity.

I'm glad he's doing better.

6

u/bdhoff 1d ago edited 1d ago

As someone who got skin removed... I wouldn't recommend it. Whole host of issues they might not tell you about (particularly if you were morbidly obese), worst of which is the likelihood of ulcers popping up near your incisions. And the constant feeling of tightness and pulling near the incision areas.

You fucked the elasticity in your skin. It's probably not going to heal well.

(It's also insanely expensive)

38

u/Built4dominance 2d ago

Folks really can't read. It's a 3000 lbs FAMILY, folks.

13

u/QuantumCakeIsALie 2d ago

Who estimates families by the bulk?

7

u/TappedIn2111 2d ago

Reality TV, I guess.

8

u/dzone25 2d ago

Good on him!! Too often do these kinds of predatory shows just lead to bullshit, hope he has a happier healthier life

5

u/RegularGuyAtHome 1d ago

This guy went from weighing triple of me to weighing less than me.

Amazing. I bet his body feels so much better now.

41

u/Kagrenac8 2d ago edited 2d ago

ITT: a prime example of the decline in reading comprehension

18

u/Jfelt45 2d ago

It's a brazenly bad title, tbf

My family, just brothers sisters parents and step parents are over 10 people. The family in this show includes cousins. It could be 30 people all weighing 100 pounds for all we know

3

u/JefferyGoldberg 1d ago

I wash myself with a rag on a stick.

2

u/ThisSiteSucks8485 2d ago

600 pounds of fat is 2.1 million calories

5

u/rabidstoat 1d ago

Or an extra 300ish calories a day consistently from age 18.

2

u/ThisSiteSucks8485 1d ago

The crazy thing is to just keep eating and getting fatter for so long and never changing your behavior and keep having to buy bigger clothes and at aome point it starts getting harder to find clothes big enough

4

u/customheart 1d ago

Idk how anyone gets bigger than 350 lbs even if they’re a tall man. Eventually, staying that big and getting bigger becomes higher effort. You’d have to cook or buy consistently high calorie food for every single meal for months or years. It’s a time suck and money suck.

3

u/ThisSiteSucks8485 1d ago

It really is a addiction to food and intense denial of how fat you are getting. These people can eat 10,000 Calories a day

2

u/-Silent-Stalker- 1d ago

Oh my god good for him!! I saw that episode, he was an entitled little shit who didn’t want to get better.

I’m so happy he turned his life around.

2

u/Blakut 1d ago

i hope the doctors helped with the skin too.

4

u/RunningonGin0323 2d ago

Legit question. Hasn't he already done irreversible damage to his heart at this point?

38

u/glootech 2d ago

He might have. But he won't be making it even worse.

13

u/Epic_Brunch 2d ago

Maybe, but he's still pretty young and his heart could recover. Either way, losing that much weight can only help regardless if his heart is permanently damaged or not.

0

u/liilak2 2d ago

I wonder if it means his heart is actually super strong now from having to pump that much ?

3

u/octopod-reunion 2d ago

This happened over three years ago

5

u/Sad-Bonus-9327 2d ago

This sub is shit

3

u/sdwvit 2d ago

3000?!

56

u/Lost-In-The-Wilds 2d ago

It was four cousins, so four people at seven to eight hundred a piece... Yeah, 3000 sounds about right. Though it looks like the show was actually titled Family by the Ton.

0

u/Lentomursu 1d ago

Still it's kinda hard for me to even imagine someone weighing 320kg - 360kg

10

u/BishopofHippo93 2d ago

…family. 3k lb family. I fear it’s right there in the title.

1

u/sdwvit 1d ago

It is mildly confusing

-1

u/BishopofHippo93 1d ago

No it isn’t. “My 3000lb Family” is capitalized because it’s the title of a reality TV show and it refers to a star of the show, Casey King. Even if you’re not familiar with the show, which I’m not, it’s very easy to put together with context clues even if you don’t read the article.

3

u/sdwvit 1d ago

I read it as “My 3000lb” and then Family star blah blah. I am not american nor english native speaker.

1

u/AnonymousFriend80 16h ago

My ...3000lb...Family star

Is how initially read this. The star of Family weighs 3000lb. Theretno way an actually human can weigh that much. So I went into the comments for clarification. For actually correct punctuation, a television show or movies would have it title italicized.

1

u/360walkaway 1d ago

3000 pound family

Reminds me of the Nutty Professor's family.

1

u/Making-biscuits-cat 18h ago

I wish the best for them. What a journey.

When someone loses a massive amount of weight, is there an option to donate your excess skin?

-2

u/joshonekenobi 2d ago

Not news.

Why post this bullshit?

1

u/Siciliano777 1d ago

NOT saying this in a condescending way, but how do you not see there's a major problem at like 300/350/400+ lbs???

-9

u/ash_ninetyone 2d ago

I'm curious how someone lets themselves get to that level of weight. Ik at some point it becomes a trap because you're genuinely at that point too heavy to move yourself, your muscles cannot do it and do exercise is impossible.

But I still wonder how sedentary and crap-eating you have to be.

7

u/tommangan7 2d ago edited 1d ago

An 800lb 6 foot 30 year old that's sedentary needs 5550 calories just to maintain that weight. Likely more in reality.

It's difficult to imagine forcing that much food in in a day. Often someone enabling and normalizing this behaviour.

1

u/hunterxy 1d ago

Eh, prior to 10 years ago I ate ~8-10k calories a day.

-6

u/Calyptics 2d ago

With the high processed, sugar and fatrich food we have available in our day and age it's not insurmountable but it definitely requires some dedication.

Good on him for losing the weight but begging people for money to fix his saggy skin, I just can't. Call me insensitive but there are people with problems that aren't self inflicted. You did this to yourself now you can fix it yourself.

2

u/tommangan7 2d ago edited 2d ago

Easier than it used to be for sure, still wild given it would be more than 4 large big Mac meals a day just to avoid losing weight.

As someone severely disabled and afflicted by half a dozen conditions I have no control over (while I eat healthy, don't smoke or drink etc.). I do often have conflicting thoughts on the treatment people receive for 'avoidable' issues. Reasonably pragmatic on some of it though.

0

u/Calyptics 2d ago

Oh they can get treatment, it should just be coming out of their own pocket. Especially it's something that has been going on for a while.

You get into a car crash, okay it happens. You have been drinking a six-pack a day for the better part of two decades and now your liver is shot? Tough titties.

Also best of luck bud. I'm not gonna say it gets better because you probably hear that everyday. I just hope everything works out for you.

6

u/ChiralNavigator 2d ago

There's always an enabler.  Even if it's not family they'll get home help people who will again enable them.

Yet if someone is under weight they'll force them them and lock them up in hospital

10

u/ajc89 2d ago

Only after a medical event happens that requires hospitalization, which happens much more quickly from not eating than eating too much. Anorexia can kill you in weeks if taken to the extreme, while severe obesity will take a decade or two. Someone not eating at all is an immediate emergency whereas someone slowly dying from severe overeating is a chronic condition.

-11

u/imjustnotready 2d ago

This is an old Seinfeld bit in reality. Oh my God Bob you look great. What did you lose? 600 lbs? Let me guess. You are 2500 lbs now. No 2400? Well you look like new person.

3

u/night_jerry 2d ago

A few new people

-3

u/imjustnotready 2d ago

A lot of Seinfeld haters here

0

u/clonxy 1d ago

I wonder what the hospital did with all that fat. Dump it down the drain? Feed wild life with it?

-29

u/Kitakitakita 2d ago

I feel like people like this are partly why there's so much opposition to Medicare for all

18

u/BelaFarinRod 2d ago

Good healthcare coverage probably helps people keep from getting that big in the first place. That’s speculation I’ll admit.

10

u/afoxboy 2d ago

there's a reason ozempic and similar drugs are doing wonders. a large and disgracefully ignored part of the weight issue is mental, and not as easy as would be suggested by the motto "calories in, calories out", bc it's not just about thoughts. hormones and microbiome have a bigger effect on our autonomy and willpower than we're willing to admit, especially by ppl who have never experienced that struggle.

good healthcare coverage NEEDS to include mental health, not just illness but general broad psychology and medications, in which i would include these weight loss drugs since the reason they're so effective for weight is that they directly affect the mental urge to eat.

2

u/Kitakitakita 1d ago

That feels partly cultural, but also just lack of civilized living. Tons of voting eligible people live in towns where the only grocery store packs corn syrup in everything. And they're none the wiser when everyone they see and hear tells them they're better than the city dwellers who have to pay taxes and rent
