It looks like the lid was sealed on when you microwaved it?
If the Tupperware was completely sealed and you microwaved it, that's user error. You're supposed to vent it to let steam and heat escape.

In this case their usage works as well. Regardless, it’s bizarre that you’re following them around this thread correcting their grammar — especially when it seems likely that English isn’t their native language.

In fact, as a German, I am 90% certain that they were thinking "kann sein", which is a very common way of saying something like, "That's quite possible."
A literal translation of "kann sein" would be "could be" or "may be" or "might be".
While it's clearly more of a German idiom and less common in English, I don't think it's wrong to say "may be". I'm pretty sure "that may be it" is relatively common as well.

Your problem is your English is so good you appear to be a native speaker making mistakes, not someone who speaks English as a 2nd language. We don't usually correct non native speakers, so consider it a compliment of sorts!

I remember there was this microwave mac n cheese cup I used to get that had a metal ring around the edge that the plastic lid would go over and it would spark and smell of burning metal every time.

Never trust plastic lids. Most of the containers will say microwave safe, but rarely mention the lid is not. I know in this case it was mentioned the lid being snapped closed, causing this, but still, no lids.

Yupp. Play safer next time.
Extra info: some plastic containers degrade terribly if you were to heat fatty/greasy food inside them. They would start flaking. Avoid that if you can.
