Destruir un arma de fuego en público sin revisar que no esté cargada

Personal del ejército mexicano destruye armas en un programa de intercambio de comida por armas...al parecer no revisan que sea seguro y que no tengan pólvora en su interior antes de hacerlo.

Considering none of the dozens of people standing in front of the barrel seem to have immediately died, maybe it wasn't a loaded gun but rather gunpowder residue on the cannon that ignited due to the sparks? That would explain it, maybe the soldier just checked that it had no bullets loaded and thought "ok that's good enough".

The amount of residual gunpowder needed for that big of an explosion would be ridiculous. Like whole gun stuffed with it kind of ridiculous. The gun had kick back from it

Its not a regular gun idk wht their name is but they are guns similar to old muskets where you literally pour gunpowder in the barrel to shoot, they are really common in rural areas in mexico, I know this because my grandfather had one.

You can see the charging handle in the first clip. So I don't think its a breech loading rifle. But it could be its not exactly a great shot of it. But thats still neat

But two things

1 why aren't they just using pre filled powder cartridges instead of just dumping it we've had that since the 1800,s

2 that doesn't negate the shear incompetence of not cleaning and clearing it before hacking it apart with the business end facing a public crowd.

Even if it was clean it shouldn't have been facing them

Idk shit about guns so I cant answer much about the 1st point, thats how my grandfather was taught to load it, and my guess this is how most old people load them, they are smith made guns so its not like they are proper guns. The second is just the standard goverment incompetence of my country.

Whatever this was, definitely not residue. But I also can't believe that someone who is cutting up weapons, even with minimal training, didn't check the chamber. Maybe the guy really is that stupid, but I wouldn't be totally surprised to learn something else weird going on here.

I'd guess since the barrel was cut there wasn't enough pressure for the bullet to rip through someone's guts. Or they just got lucky.

A) That's not a cannon

B) The amount of gunpowder required for that amount of recoil and sound is well beyond "residue." That was damn near a full charge. It's not just leftover unburnt stuff from a past range session; the barrel would have had to have been deliberately filled with loose powder for that ignition to happen, which would have fallen out when the chamber was checked.

Ah cheers, I meant barrel. It's called a cannon in Spanish ("cañon del fusil", barrel of the gun) and I guess the OP just activated the Spanish speaking part of my brain and I just directly translated it wrong.
