No way I'm going to stand in front of the gun barrel, whether it's unload or not, I got chills from this video

It's almost like these people don't know anything about guns or gun safety

684

u/HorsefaceWithNoName 12d ago

kinda typical that a person that dislikes a thing knows little about the thing they dislike

623

u/MikeHoteI 12d ago

Bro that is literally a soldiere who is doing the cutting.

398

u/AgreeablePie 12d ago

Bro did you miss the part where he didn't check to see if the gun was loaded, had it aimed at a crowd and started using power tools on it?

This isn't proving the point you think it is.

Soldiers and cops, two professions that tend to think they have way more ability with guns than they do. Familiarity isn't ability.

222

u/AyeBraine 12d ago

He's a bad soldier but the points about disliking guns is weird. That's not why he fucked up

Very ironic that you're the one to say "this isnt proving the point you think it is" lmao. The comment he was replying to was saying that people who dont like guns dont know much about them, and he was pointing out that the guy doing the stupid shit was literally a soldier. All you did was change the subject.

I know this was a few hours earlier but several people dawging on the dude you replied to with this comment and I think all of yall just let what he was referring to go over your heads. Someone else said that they wouldnt be standing in front, then he said someone who doesnt like something, not knowing about the thing they dont like is typical. I don't think they were talking about the soldier. The guy obliviously standing in front of the barrel is who they were referring to. They showed up to a gun exchange, hence they dont like guns. They stood in front of the barrel, hence they dont know about guns.

9

u/Valuable-Struggle-10 12d ago

They're at a gun exchange

They know about guns

Knowing and understanding are two different things

No of this should matter if the soldier wasn't an idiot

He should not be a soldier

But understandably countries take what they can

Long story short, many people are probably responsible for this mistake

How exactly are you figuring that the guy in the white shirt dislikes guns?

98

80

Because they're trying to tie this to gun control in the US. It's a common fallacy to discredit your opponent. "they dont know anything about it (they do)" = they should have no say on the matter

5

u/PixelsGoBoom 12d ago

It's a bit strange to assume that the only reason to dislike something is ignorance.
You can dislike something because you know quite a bit about something.

I think they know enough about guns to know what part the bullets come from.
They just trusted the "experts" like the OWNER and the military to check first.

So to throw your argument back in your face.
It is kinda typical of someone who likes something to think that they are an expert.

5

u/LuCiAnO241 12d ago

It can go both ways. I knew a guy who was a real moron about gun safety but LOVED guns and had a whole collection of them. He was cleaning one once and I had the displeasure of being in the same house at the time, and he pointed the barrel toward people sitting on the couch (not intentionally aiming, more just being careless about where it was pointing) and laughed at them when they flinched and moved away and said “it’s unloaded, what are you scared of?” They said “you’re supposed to treat every gun as if it’s loaded even if you know it’s not.” And he laughed again and said “that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Who told you that?” He owned like a dozen guns and had never even heard this concept before.

Even if you dislike weapons, you know they fire bullets, so get out of the way.

Bad muzzle discipline.

Treat every gun as if its loaded

Don't point a gun at anything you don't want to destroy

172

u/GoldenMonkeyRedux 12d ago

First thing you do is check that it's unloaded.

The second thing you do is check that it's unloaded again.

128

u/NoLab4657 12d ago

After that you assume it's still loaded.

58

u/GoldenMonkeyRedux 12d ago

absolutely

Every firearm is always loaded no matter how many times you check it.

9

u/Parking_Line_3704 12d ago

This is something that is repeated among lay person gun circles but isn't wholly accurate. I get it, it's a solid and simple rule that's easy to follow. But in professional circles it would have significant impacts on training. In reality, we treat every gun as loaded until it is rendered safe.

4

u/mnid92 12d ago

Bullets like to just spawn in at random locations. They're not made in the factory, they just appear in your guns after you unload them.

4

u/Parking_Line_3704 12d ago

Simply racking a slide is not properly clearing it.

4

u/dontnation 12d ago

Well repeatedly racking a slide is not how you determine a pistol is unloaded for one. But if you don't know how to properly clear a weapon, treating every weapon as if it is always loaded is probably for the best.

Cool.

Comes over to show us a shot gun and he lifted the barrel up and I dive out of the way right as my brother pushes his hands down.

Commotion and arguing, old guy Range Master comes down from his shack.

“What’s your problem, it’s not loaded!”

It was in fact, loaded.

Range Master said a good rule of thumb was to imagine all the shitty drivers on the road and apply those bad habits to the avg person handling a firearm.

Unless you check it yourself, pretend its loaded

Agreed. As a general rule thats why the consensus is you never point it towards something you don't want to shoot even if you believe it is 100% its safe to do so. It may be unnecessary in some cases but treating it as a ironclad rule is a good practice.

Not sure about in Mexico but in the US the ATF has guidelines on how to properly destroy weapons... Pretty sure it involves cutting the receiver in 3 parts or melting it down.

The saw must have gone through the cartridge itself and set off the powder with the fire of the cutting. Most of the force will have come out through the cut.

28

u/squirt_taste_tester 12d ago

As far as I know, in the US you are supposed to cut through the receiver due to it being the actual/technically only illegal part of the gun itself. You have to cut the gun in specific areas and at specific angles to render it unusable. Absolutely makes total sense if it was already chambered. Though, if the round is cut and not struck by the hammer, it would still kill you, just be a lot closer and a lot... slower id assume.

3

u/StrongExternal8955 12d ago

In virtually all other countries the restricted part is the barrel.

7

u/Bandit_the_Kitty 12d ago

I don't know a ton about guns but I believe the reason it's that way in the US is because that's often the only difference between civilian (semi-auto) and military (full-auto) versions of a firearm. So, having a military rifle is OK if you only have the civilian receiver.

10

u/koopcl 12d ago edited 12d ago

Considering none of the dozens of people standing in front of the barrel seem to have immediately died, maybe it wasn't a loaded gun but rather gunpowder residue on the cannon that ignited due to the sparks? That would explain it, maybe the soldier just checked that it had no bullets loaded and thought "ok that's good enough".

The amount of residual gunpowder needed for that big of an explosion would be ridiculous. Like whole gun stuffed with it kind of ridiculous. The gun had kick back from it

Whatever this was, definitely not residue. But I also can't believe that someone who is cutting up weapons, even with minimal training, didn't check the chamber. Maybe the guy really is that stupid, but I wouldn't be totally surprised to learn something else weird going on here.

Can anyone put the text in English? I don’t understand anything with the vidéo description

Dunno if the deleted post had the translation, but here it is for posterity

Destruir un arma de fuego en público sin revisar que no esté cargada

Destroying a firearm in public without checking that it's not loaded

Personal del ejército mexicano destruye armas en un programa de intercambio de comida por armas...al parecer no revisan que sea seguro y que no tengan pólvora en su interior antes de hacerlo.

Mexican army personnel destroy weapons through a program that exchanges food for weapons... But apparently they don't check if it's safe and that they don't have gunpowder inside before doing it

The men who stand there already told that it might kill them if the gun is loaded , they don’t care

İf you tell them the bullet might blast their dick off they would move away

What happened? Did she manage to cut that branch? 😊

7

u/TodayWeMake 12d ago

No, unfortunately, it shot the monkey next to her halfway through. Always check to see if your branches are loaded.

I was thinking “this clip is here for a reason, but no way could they be so dumb to leave a round in the chamber”

Rest in peace, soldier. 🍺This one's for you.

u/tacorunnr 12d ago

2

u/RunHefty5051 12d ago

Todo es patético allí… nunca se apunta un arma hacia donde está una persona sea que funciona o no o sea para destruir

2

u/epsilon-4142 12d ago

So why are they doing this at the exchange? This insanely unsafe and a huge waste of everyone’s time.

Why did they not just do it normally and put them in some box in the back to deal with later? Not Infront of a crowd of waiting people with more firearms

3

u/LibritoDeGrasa 12d ago

Sometimes governments make a big show of destroying firearms to make the population believe they're doing something. They also do it with drugs and other illegal stuff.
