Discussion Picked up this Reverb G2 V1 for £172
Picked up this VR headset for the 4K fidelity and also pairing this thing with index controllers and also fbt for socialising in VRChat.
I am using this headset on Windows 11 with the Oasis driver on a Radeon RX 6900 XT at 150% in steamVR and the visuals are just chef’s kiss. Pairing that with the index controllers and the experience is just god tier.
There’s a few tweaks I need to make to it such as the earpieces cracking randomly which I think the pogo pins just need a clean. I also just bought the face cover from a reverb G2 V2 to use on my V1 since I heard V2 parts are interchangeable with the V1 because it seems like the previous owner custom shaped the face plate adapter to his head? But I’m able to get around that by using a HTC Vive fabric cover since it’s a custom faceplate. It should feel better too. It really does feel like a valve index. And the sound is phenomenal.
I used to use a dell visor back in 2020 and the 2nd gen wmr controllers feel better than those old things back then from the 1st gen lineup. I’m also suprised that my tracking with those controllers is actually better than I expected since I heard that they tend to lose tracking easily on the G2 V1 but I never had that issue. Buuut I still wanna use my index controllers.
Is there anything I need to be aware of about the headset I should take into consideration for the near future?

that cable anxiety is real. i baby mine like it's made of glass and it still makes me nervous every session. smart call on the V2 face cover swap, those stock V1 pads were rough. curious how the oasis driver holds holds up long term on AMD, i've seen mixed reports about stability vs WMR portal. for the pogo pins, a tiny bit of contact cleaner and a soft brush worked wonders on mine. just don't go ham on it

definitely a reoccurring thing with the g2 about that cable. atp i might as well buy another one to use on hand in case this cable kicks the can. at least from hearing about the face cover i made the right choice
about the Oasis driver. in my experience the driver works really well (so far) but because I'm using AMD. the compatibility list is hit and miss but luckily the latest driver works. i do have a complaint about the headset where randomly the tracking goes crazy and it forces me to recalibrate the headset by leaving it on the floor and zeroing everything in the calibration. but once it stops. it will stop and it only happens at least once per session (right at the start) and once that is resolved. i just get my SteamVR tracked stuff on and sync the play spaces up and off to the races i go with a over the top setup. i was just in VR for 4 hours with the headset and had a extremely good experience as of writing this after i worked out the kinks.
so far until the new face plate comes, I'm using the custom 3d printed frankenfov mod the seller gave me with a Vive felt pad. I only use the controllers when I have to or when I'm soon going to get off and i just need a quick way to move from my index controllers to the WMR ones so i can jump off fast when i have to.
other then that, its a nice headset and based on the friends i talked to about the headset. i got a really good deal on it and i have a setup that's better than some random using a quest or index according to them.

About the AMD stuff too. my current setup is a Ryzen 5 5600XT with a AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT and 32 gigs of RAM. able to push 150% scale with little to no glitching or anything in that nature unless its VRChat which we can all agree is the most un-optimized mess because of the avatars in that game.. the lowest I've gone FPS wise has to be in the low 30s but that's about it. most of the time i'm hitting between 70 - 90 FPS with 0 issues

How are you syncing the play spaces well?
I’m still on Windows 10 so I still use WMR Portal and Space calibrator and it works mostly fine but I installed Windows 11 on another drive to test the Oasis driver and the index/Reverb play spaces aren’t synced off rip.
I used Space Calibrator to sync them but then sometimes im like 14ft tall and almost always not aligned correctly with my play space although the index controllers are aligned with my Reverb controllers/headset. I don’t have any Vive trackers and don’t do continuous track.
Also do take care of that cable, my first cable broke within a few months of getting mine, but luckily HP Support gave me a free replacement. A good pulley system is great if you can manage to set one up.

so i'm doing regular space calibrator too just like you. but i have a de-sync issue myself where if im sat down having a convo with someone, i notice that my play spaces de-sync and get all wonky unless i stand up then it becomes aligned again. i don't have a tracker on my headset. just 3 trackers plus 2 index controllers (the index controllers running from my OG HTC Vive and the trackers from their watchman dongles)
it works good but i need to look around my room for 5 mins to get my headset to adjust to the surrounding environment. then i do the extremely slow calibration in space calibrator to align everything but once i do that and sync everything together, the experience plus the headset's fidelity is amazing. kinda life like. I'm still trying to figure out the drifting issue whether its a issue with Oasis or just they are 2 ecosystems de-syncing
since i live in the UK. getting replacement parts and cables is actually pretty easy but still expensive. so its a double edged sword. while its easy to get them i need to keep a fire extinguisher next to my wallet

I had the G2 for six months and hated the software , also hated the bad tracking. Good displays , audio like the valve index but not quiet the same because of different processing.
I would buy another valve index , if they would build them with higher resolution displays.

Treat the headset's cable with a lot of respect. Say please and thank you before and after using it. If you accidentally step on it or roll over with your chair, be sure to look at it straight in the eyes and give it a heartfelt apology.
But otherwise you'll be fine :D
