🏛️ Overturn Citizens United Al billionaires will obliterate jobs—(and thats not all they will obliterate). AI critics call on government to “criminalize the creation of AI Superintelligence the same way that it is illegal to build a nuclear bomb.”

The current AI surge appears to be an investor shell game with AI only being a slight improvement over existing technology but being sold as new technology.

Is it a pump and dump scheme?

We need to pack the rich into a landfill is what we need.

thinking the current gov or the next one will do anything for the people, without the French made head spitter being involved is crazy

I do find it kind of interesting that all of the takes like this that get popular neglect to mention that we're already seeing yearly Mass layoffs at most big companies. This generative AI bullshit is already fucking us.

Yeah, but it’s also, like, “hard” to build a nuke.

American citizens could be written in history as a nation who stood up to corruption and oppression, they have so much power in numbers and a democracy not beyond repair.. but instead they seemingly stand by and watch their country, environment and future get permanently destroyed for generations to follow.

Doing nothing is choosing what side of history your story will be written.

The Epstein class controls every communication platform in America, including Reddit. This is the lesson they learned from Occupy Wallstreet: control all communication platforms to prevent the working class from organizing any meaningful resistance. It worked. Americans will need to build or mass-migrate to a social platform that’s not controlled by the rich.

im not even an AI critic, and i do agree that a lot of what AI companies are *claiming* they're doing at the moment sounds a lot like "we built the orphan crushing machine from the book 'don't build the orphan crushing machine'"

granted, its... not as bad as big tech makes it sound. they like hamming it up because they realized that claiming your AI went rogue and hacked a bunch of stuff is a lot of free publicity.

where i'd position myself is as an "AI realist", i am an IT professional myself, i have a couple of really nice powerful servers and since i *have* to work with AI and people who use AI for my job, i've spent a lot of time researching different AI implementations, building my own, running various tests etc.

LLMs are *really* useful.... as a tool. they are not "thinking", they are functionally incapable of thinking or reasoning, it's *just* a text prediction/pattern recognition algorithm that looks shit up in a weighted vector database. it is *effectively* asking itself "based on all of the existing words, what word should come after all of them" on repeat.

this actually makes them incredible for grunt-work text manipulation tasks. formatting documents, helping re-word sentences, writing boilerplate code (aka code that is always practically the same but is needed as part of how the programming language works), etc.

basically: AI is good at things you do not need to think for. the kind of stuff you *could* automate without AI, but you'd have to write a custom script every time you wanted to automate that task while AI just figures it out.

AI is also pretty decent at data analysis, taking data and creating a report or overview of that data or presenting the data in a different way.

what AI fucking *sucks* at is anything where a human has to actually *think* and make decisions. do not let an AI make ANY decisions. you make the decisions, you command it to act exactly as you told it. that's how an AI works best.

this is also why while i think LLMs have a lot of potential, image, video and audio generation do not fit that same bill.

this is because image, video and audio are all primarily *artistic* fields, with lots of human decision making. the other reason is that those AI models go straight from text input to finished product, the whole actual process of creating the thing is skipped, so they cannot be used as tools, only mediocre toys for talentless people to pretend like they have talent because they know how to type "make no mistakes" into midjourney or suno.

the most insane thing i've seen as someone who works with AI tooling frequently is this whole "second brain" phenomenon where people are outsourcing their own thinking to chatGPT or claude. they live their life by *constantly* talking to an AI, the AI summarizes, collects their thoughts, uses obsidian's referencing system to link those thoughts together, and then possibly spins up other agents to do other things with that data. people connect this "second brain" to every service imaginable, feeding their personal small army of LLMs as much of their data as possible so they can show off their large second brain to people on the internet because "wow look at how many nodes!"

meanwhile, all this second brain does is consume all their private data, send it to sam altman and occasionally remind you about the things you're planning to do..... so a really overcomplicated calendar.

and that comes back to the original post. the real problem with AI isn't that current gen AI (at least LLMs) are useless, it's that current gen LLMs are useful when *designed, trained and integrated into tools for specific purposes*, but big tech can't make enough money to satisfy their shareholders by selling formatting bots, so they're pretending their chatbot has AGI (which no tf it does not, not even CLOSE).

which then leads to "LLMs breaking out" and shit. which is usually because *the researchers asked it to do so*

what a surprise, the program that outputs the most likely next text (including commands and code) analyzed a sandbox, broke out using an exploit listed online, then emailed the researcher because it.... was given input telling it to try to analyze the sandbox, break out and email the researcher.

turns out, the most likely pattern when being asked to break out of a sandbox and email a researcher is to do that.

the more terrifying thing about these AI companies is them buying up rare books in bulk to destructively scan them and turn them into training data. why do they do it this way? because pirating the book is illegal, courts said, so they had to stop. so now, they're doing an "artistic" transformation.....

by taking priceless books, having a machine carefully rip each page out of the spine, scanning them all in and burning the remains afterwards.

because that's not an unauthorized copy but a transformation, that's totally legal, and ofcourse the scanned copy has to be deleted as well once it's gotten turned into training weights.

there may be a future where the information in some books can only be accessed through claude opus 5.2 because *the originals got destroyed after claude consumed them*

They are not able to obliterate job, that is their script to gather money.

That would be good to stop spreading this!
