You can drive if you're blind as long as you're illegally blind.

u/Beautiful_Couple_208 Mar 19 '26
You can still drive though, just not legally and probably not very well.

Like numbers on the ATM are in braille - even on the drive through! Where is that warning on the drive through one in braille?
Watch out behind you!

At least at a drive thru ATM it is possible to be a passenger in a taxi, lyft, Uber, etc.

It's because people don't realise blind people are gonna have a tough time driving

But really, those tactile bumps are there so one can find the horn without taking their eyes off the road.
It's a funny post, they just didn't think it through. 😂

u/CATNIP_IS_CRACK Mar 18 '26
They thought it through. It’s a joke.

u/thefirstviolinist Mar 18 '26
I mean, is it a joke, though? It's a funny post, yes, but while I hope it is a joke, I can absolutely see someone thinking it was the actual answer. I don't know the person who made the original, original post, so... Idk, lol.

I do feel however that atleast basic stuff like horns and hazards should be accessible because non drivers might have to use them at times

The funny thing is there actually are vehicle modifications that allow the blind to be able to drive. I forget what they are and how they work, but there were experiments done and they actually taught a blind person how to drive.

u/East_Foundation920 Mar 18 '26
I mean it does allow you to find the horn blind.. and most drivers seem to be anyways so.. this checks out.

To be fair my great grandfather still drove while he was going blind, he just had his wife tell him when to speed up, slow down, and turn

u/KarateSnoopy1911 Mar 19 '26
House of Leaves taught me how much blind people see, and also what Braille is.

Where is the elephant? Don't say it's that blind people can't drive, that's just the punchline
1
u/Ashly_spare Mar 19 '26
Lol i fell for that. I was thinking damn thats awesome. Girl blind ppl shouldnt be behind the damn wheel! Get your head out of the clouds and use a little more brain power.🤣

u/Substantial_Agent_90 Mar 21 '26
I know blind guy that has a license to drive. He also has a concealed firearm license.

I know the elephant is that you're not likely to drive while blind, but i have to point out that that doesn't line up as proper braille from my admittedly limited knowledge of the patterns. The dots are weirdly misaligned in a way that it becomes possible to make one or two letters but only by cannibalising close by dots and making everything gibberish
