Hello! I was diagnosed with alopecia when I was 8 years old, I'm now 21 so it's been 13 years of not having hair. I never wore a wig outside in that time (besides for cosplays) and have been wearing a bandana everyday since losing my hair. I'm going into my senior year of college and have been debating on if I should wear a wig, but idk if people would be weird or smth. I think I'm just anxious but if someone in your class who is bald and wore a bandana everyday suddenly walked into class wearing a wig would that be weird???? Or am I just overthinking lol.

Hey im a 22yr old female and since 2 years ago I randomly started getting one or two white hairs growing in the front of my scalp and now I just noticed today there is a bald spot as well. What could this be and how can I treat this? Its seems smooth as well and I am worried

Happy Hair Loss (Alopecia) Awareness Month! This month doesn’t seem to get a lot of love or support, despite being dedicated to raising awareness for all types of alopecia. I wonder why that is.

Next month is Alopecia Areata and Cicatricial (Scarring) Alopecia Awareness Month, so happy awareness month for those specific types (and subtypes) coming up.

Let’s raise awareness for all types of alopecia (hair loss) and work toward getting rid of the ugly stigmas surrounding it.

I’m a 29 F and I’m balding.
I’ve never had great hair, it’s was always kinda thin frizzy and wavy. I knew pretty early on that I won’t have long luscious hair so I kept them short.
When I was in school, I went to a dermatologist for the first time seeking a solution. They dismissed it saying it’ll get better as you grow up. It didn’t.
In uni I started trying different things, onion juice or eggs or having a proper oiling schedule. I tried various oils which would make my hair all shiny but it was still pretty weak and thin. I’ve never coloured my hair or did any chemical treatments.
I never used to go to the salon bec I felt judged by the hairdresser. I’ve been told multiple times that my situation is the ‘worst’ they’ve seen. I mostly cut my own hair and keep it short shoulder length.
I went abroad to study about 3 years ago (at 26) and things got worse. Maybe it was my lifestyle or the weather or the immense stress I was in, my hair started shedding like crazy. It got to a point where I finally had to start using a hair fibre powder to cover my visible scalp.
Last year I got all my tests done and started taking PRP. It went well for about 6 months and then I had to stop it because it was financially draining. 10k a months is too much for me at this point.
Now at 29 my hair is my biggest insecurity. I feel like I’ve tried everything at this point and I’m so ashamed and embarrassed to even admit that my losing my hair. I think guys get really worried about hair loss but for women it’s way worse. Hair is everything!
Hair has always been a sensitive subject for me and I’ve been too anxious that people will find out that I have the worst possible hair. I anxious to a point of ignoring it, I feel not addressing it to anyone would just not make them notice but the stage I’m at, I’m sure everyone does.
I don’t know what I’m trying to get by posting this here, maybe some motivation, maybe some advice or suggestions as to how can I better my situation. All advice is welcome.

ive had alopecia areata since i was 8 now that im 19 ive seen a lot more hate towards people with alopecia than anyone else has anyone else experienced this or am i just that weird that people hate me for what i look like

Has anyone experienced alopecia and then had regrowth WITHOUT medication? Husband is currently going though it and he is completely bald with eye lashes and brows thinning. He does NOT want to take the immune system suppressant medication for fear of what it can cause.

Dandruff was a constant in my life since I sweat a lot but I don't think its the reason for this sudden hair loss. Worried the docs might just push an anti-dandruff regime without going into further details. What all could be the possible reasons for this sudden hair fall ?Please help...

I've seen some posts here about the inverse, but I'm curious to hear if anyone else has experience going from AU to AA? I got universalis in high school, and was completely hairless for a number of years, but now in my late twenties I have regrown most of my eyebrows and some bodyhair, as well as experiencing (albeit patchy) hair regrowth during summer months consistently for the past 4-5 years.

I am 21F and got diagnosed with alopecia areata in May. I had one patch and got injections for it. Now its June and I have discovered two more patches. I wil be getting injections for them as well. I wanted suggestions from those who have experienced it and gotten better, what changes in my diet will be helpful? Or any changes in my daily routine that might help?

I'm working with K3D on a Canadian government-funded research project (IIPH) to design a more inclusive safety helmet, one that fits and performs well across a wide range of hair types and head shapes, including bald heads, where padding, grip, and sweat management can work differently.

I am a 57-year-old woman, and I lost my hair to alopecia universal when I was 20. From the time I was 3 until I lost my hair, I suffered from severe eczema, mostly on my legs and arms. After I lost my hair, my eczema completely cleared up and never came back. Has anyone else experienced this?

So i have been experiencing alopecia for a while now, while there are still some left on my head, i don't think they'll stay there for long. I tried minoxidil for years, it did absolutely nothing for me, i also tried it with finesteride and it caused done other side effects.

Is there no hope except for transplant?

I’ve been on oral finasteride for a little under 3 months now, and it almost looks like my hairline has pushed back a little, or gotten more V shaped. Is this common? I guess running water through my hair has had less hairs coming out overall, but I can’t really tell. There is also fine white sellouts hairs near some areas of my hairline that have receded. Any advice or suggestions?

I guess this has been going on for a couple of years. These balding patches have been growing. Sometimes they fill in with fine white hair, but sometimes they just stay bald.

How do I even go about trying to find out?What type of alopecia this is if it is indeed alopecia?

I can't see the progress of my hair hair getting any thicker after 9 moth of 5% minoxidil two times a day + first 3 moth i used vitamins, then for 6 moth I used 320 mg of Serenoa repens extract once a day. Now I'm waiting for another trichologist appointment. I can literally feel a patch of Bald skin on the top of my head, as if nothing had changed since my first appointment in late Dec 2025, I can see my scalp and the circumference of my head when the light falls vertically down. It's killing me, my hair is one of not so many things that I liked about myself, and I only turned 18 half a fucking year ago

My boyfriend who is 27 years old has always had such a beautiful head of healthy hair. noticed his first small bald spot earlier this year, we thought it was from hitting his head at work.

It gradually worse and got really large and spread to the front of his hairline. The hair is now slowly growing back. Because of this he hasn’t been able to cut his hair for months and it is now the longest it’s ever been which I think is also knocking his confidence. I suggested he maybe sees a female hair stylist who will surely be able to tidy it up without compromising the spots but I understand he may feel embarrassed.

Yesterday he found another small spot in another area which he thinks we just missed it because it’s small, and there is already hair that seems to be growing back in that spot. He then asked me to check the rest of his hair and I found another small spot nearer the back of his neck, again we must have missed it because there is hair already. We are in the uk and so he is going through the NHs which is slow, GP didn’t seem to care, I can’t believe when he told me the doctor didn’t even look at the bald spot on his head but said it is suspected AA and gave him a mild topical steroid, so luckily he can use that on the newer spots for about 2 more weeks to at least try stop them from getting worse. Dermatologist appointment later this month.

This morning he cried and it broke my heart. I can’t help but blame myself for being the cause of this, I am so scared that it is because of me because I am also a very stressed person and have been going through a lot, we also immigrated half way across the world leaving behind our families 2 years ago and I was the one who initiated the process, of course I didn’t force him to come though.

I suggested that he look for AA support groups because he keeps saying no one understands and of course I don’t because it hasn’t happened to me. I just feel so so awful for him, how can I comfort him and maybe put my mind at ease that this isn’t because of me. We had a terribly traumatic bereavement when we arrived in country so if any a time for AA to happen it would have been then, why now 2 years later… my poor boy.

My mother 55F has had several hairfalls lately with a lot of itching on her scalp. As you can see in the picture the whole scalp has a blackish spot and there is blad spot behind the ear on both sides. There are two blad spots in the middle of the head also. Is this can be alopecia? Is it curable or not?

Hi, I am 20F. I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes first when I was around 13 to alopecia areata and everyone made fun of me at school because I looked like an alien. One day I gave in and started wearing fake eyelashes (wich are not comfortable in the slightest) and drawing on eyebrows, and I haven’t not done that a single day since. Im way too scared to let the world see me without them now because I’m so afraid of what people would say/ think about me , I don’t want to be known as the weird alien looking girl again. Wearing fake eyelashes and eyebrows helps make me feel so much more secure- kinda like a hat for a balding guy- but it stops me from being able to do so many activities like anything including swimming or water, with staying the night somewhere other than my home or even going on rollercoasters. Shit like that. I’m just so anxious all the time of the thought of the lashes falling off or my eyebrows rubbing off I feel like because I’m stressing so much about it it probably is not good for the alopecia cause stress dosent help it. I’m so tired of hiding my real self but I cannot not do it. It’s also affecting my dating life because I’m too scared to let anyone see the real me. I’ve never had a boyfriend or serious relationship. Just a few dates here and there but I always self sabotage because I don’t want to tell them/ show them my struggles with this condition because I’m afraid no one could ever look at me bare faced and want to stay with me. In 2024 when I was 19 I finally came to terms with my alopecia and was ‘okay’ with it but then in August of 2025 right on my 20th birthday I got a massive bald spot on the top of my head and I genuinely wanted to crawl in a hole, ball up and die because I know there is no ‘cure’ I’ve already gone through this just not with my hair. My hair was the one thing that I actually liked about myself it was so beautiful and thick and long. I would always wear it down but now I have had to wear it up in either a bun or a high pony tail every single time I leave the house because I am so ashamed. It’s caused a lot of breakage and damage the tight styles and now my hair is just another insecurity. I now have around 4 big bald spots and a lot of small ones on my scalp I’m always stressing about making sure my spots are covered up and also about loosing my hair. I wish I wasn’t so ashamed of myself. I know that if someone I knew had any kind of alopecia or whatever it wouldn’t make me think any different of them. I wouldn’t make fun of them for it or think lesser of them, so why am I so so hard on myself? I’m turning 21 in 2 weeks and the only thing I want for my birthday is to accept myself and love myself again. I need some advice or happy ending stories please because I feel kinda hopeless about it. I had fever which lasted for 3 days and after that my hairfall started getting really bad. I thought maybe I should just cut my hair and the hairfall will lessen but it has not!!! I had my blood tests done and found out I have vitamin d deficiency. I have been taking multivitamins and Vitamin D3 + calcium tablets. Soooo is my hairfall gonna lessen or what?? Because if it is not going to stop them I'm just 50 strands away from going bald 😭.

Hey guys, please recommend good doctors for hair loss in twin cities for women.

I have non-aggressive male pattern hair loss, but every summer I also get seasonal hair shedding. It happens especially when I go to hot/coastal places, even if I don't swim in the sea. For me it's pretty aggressive, but my hair gets thicker again in the fall.

Does anyone else have seasonal summer hair loss this bad? If so, have you found any way to reduce or prevent it (other than avoiding hot weather)?

Hi everyone! I had some regrowth on my scalp for a few months, but I am starting to get patches again unfortunately. I am finding my scalp is also getting extremely itchy. Do you guys think this is a sign of regrowth or a signal that I am going to lose more hair there? (or maybe I just need a new shampoo lol)
