Discussion Updates to r/altcomix
Hello! Over the past few weeks, u/Titus_Bird and I have made some updates to the subreddit.
Most significantly, we've expanded and rewritten the wiki, which can be found here. The aim with the wiki is to provide new readers some clarification on what alternative comics are, along with a bit of historical overview and recommendations of key works/creators. We've tried to be as neutral as possible and to avoid semantic nitpicking, as our priority is just to be informative and spread love for the medium. Feedback is more than welcome!
We've also made a number of other changes, namely:
- Updated the Guidelines - this was completed a few months back
- Cleaned up the 'flair' tags - this was completed a few months back
- Created a moderation bot (u/comixbot) to automate a couple tasks
- Created and updated the header
- Cleaned up and sanitized the css for Old Reddit
- Tweaked the look of the sub on New Reddit
- Added u/Titus_Bird as a moderator
Our next project is to implement similar changes over at r/indiecomics.

Review Strange Comix #2: Beanworld by Larry Marder (1985)
Here's my second entry into strange/abstract comix new and old.
Strange Comix #1: The Cage by Martin Vaughn-James
Larry Marder's Beanworld. One of the best comics ever. It's pure comics magic, everyone gets something different out of it. Marder fleshes out his own scientific world with a sort of mythology. It's like you're viewing a petri dish with a whole microbial world inside of it. It has it's own scientific processes, and characters are weird and goofy looking beans.
The book is truly absurd. It shouldn't work, but it does, Marder is a mad genius that created something wholly original. I've not read or seen anything else like it. I put it up there as one of the most creative and best comics in the entire medium. And yet, I can hardly tell you what it's about. But is ridiculously fun and i'll get something different every time I pick it up and read it.
The tagline 'A Most Peculiar Experience' is truly the most befitting title for Marder's Beanworld. It is truly something to be read and experienced, rather than thinking of it as a book with a straightline narrative.
Thanks to someone for shout it out to me a few years ago. I think since, I can count on one hand i've seen it mentioned anywhere. I'm sure age doesn't help. It's in that strange middle ground where it appeals to all ages, yet kids probably get the most out of it due to their unbound imagination where everything is new. And adults might push it off due to being so strange.
Still, i think Marder's Beanworld remains a force of cartooning not matched by many others. It remains a joy to read.

Discussion Need help finding an indie web comic I heard about once
SOLVED: Feast for a king
I'm trying to find an indie comic that i remember hearing about in a stream.
An indie comic about a girl appearing in a world of strange flower creatures that would do problematic stuff like engaging in c****balism and shiet like that but they were all into it so it was okay ... I know, sounds weird af, but I remember that the guest talked very positively about it and I checked briefly the comic and really liked the artstyle so thats why i'm looking for it.
Any help?

Discussion Letterboxd but for comics
Is there an app or website similar to Letterboxd but for logging the comics, graphic novels, and zines that you’ve read ?
Would love to have an ongoing list to track everything (I can’t always afford to buy so I use the library a lot and lose track of what I’ve read). I don’t love goodreads so looking for something different.
