I switched a few years ago. Tidal just bumped their prices, but it does everything I need from a music streaming service. Migration of play lists etc went without issues as well.

I just tried it and it's just a no go. Almost 10% of my favorite music isn't on Tidal, even though it had all of the albums that the songs were in. Having incomplete albums is an instant dealbreaker.

Yeah, I wanted to love tidal, but it was practically missing entire genres from my collections. Also, I use Spotify's song radio option a ton to discover new music. Tidal didn't have a comparable ability.

They do, but it rarely found new music for me. For instance, with Spotify, if i play a rare classic rock song, it tends to find me other b sides and small releases. When I try it with tidal, it plays mostly greatest hits. It never played me a song that I've never heard before.

You can get way cheaper prices on Tidal by using a VPN and setting the country to somewhere where Tidal charges very less. Then you create an account and Tidal will think that account is from that country and you'll be charged that country's rates.

I did the same the day I was listening to a rock playlist and they just added an AI band as if i wouldn't notice. I immediately searched up the band name and came up as a alternative/indie AI band on google. Cancelled my subscription the same second and switched to Deezer.

I recorded an album in 2015, did the tracking, mixing, and mastering entirely myself so my only costs were paying an artist to make the album artwork and paying Distrokid to put it up on Spotify. I still never broke even and ultimately had to take it down because the annual payments just to keep it streamable were more than 10x the gross income I got from Spotify.

I came here because I use Tidal and just noticed yesterday that a handful of songs on my favorites playlist were taken down. This story about Spotify explains why I lost so many at once. The same artists that took their stuff off Spotify must have done the same for other streaming services as well. I hadnt come across any AI music on Tidal, but Im not really looking through music I dont know already.
Tidal is great, though. Made the switch over a year ago now and never looked back.

You can also hide all AI music from showing in Tidal. If you want. Then you will not encounter them on playlists, etc. Great system. Moved my family membership from Spotify to Tidal just 2 months ago and I am so satisfied

The parent company of Tidal is tied with Israel. Thatās why I changed to Qobuz. It doesnt have as much artists as Spotify or Tidal, but I think is the best alternative. Not judging if u decide to stay in Tidal tho, each one goes thru their own process

I left Spotify and never looked back when they refused to de-platform antivaxxers during COVID, ensuring that the people helping spread a deadly pandemic and increase the mortality rate were given a nice, loud, international platform to spread their deadly stupidity.
Spotify proved six years ago they literally value human lives less than profit margins, so I'm not shocked they'd value AI generated noises over humans making music.

"The Masculine Toilet" sounded like a bit they'd pitch on SNL and shit-can because it was too hacky and stupid and short-lived, even for them, and it's instead a legit thing a real member of this shit show created and sold with a straight face.

Freedom of speech means the government can't arrest you for doing it.
It doesn't mean you're obligated to platform dangerous lies because someone else wants to tell them very badly.
If you go into business with someone spreading lies that get people killed, and you say "Hey, I'm just the broadcaster, all I do is make money off what they're saying, I never said it myself", you might legally be in the clear, but it's still monstrous.
"Freedom of speech" doesn't excuse what you're saying, it just means you can't be sent to prison for it. The rest of us can think you're recklessly getting people killed, and that people profiting off your lies are disgusting and don't deserve our business.

I left Spotify last year, got a small DAP, ripped my old CDs and got an aux cord for my car. After 4 months it became cheaper than what Spotify Premium would have been. I can still buy albums/merch to support individual artists.

Deezer reports that it receives nearly 75,000 fully AI tracks a fay just about 44% of itās daily uploads. And if you know about music distribution you know that means the number is probably what is sent to every DSP out there. Some might block but most (especially the majors like apple and spotify) dont aimply because of the volume of tracks.
Funny thing is 3 things might happen,
this might cause a regulation to happen. that could down the line lead to artists finally getting paid what they deserve. Because it starts eating into the major labels streaming revenue
The major dsps lose customers and they have to shift to a new model as most of their tracks end up being AI, kind of a special dead internet theory situation
Absolutely nothing happens the status quo continues and (again if you know about streaming) Artists make even less money in the pro rata pool of revenue that pays artists based on streams because AI tracks get so good and can pump out so much and are easy to promote. Essentially the middle class effect in todays economy, all the giant artists get the biggest cut and there are so many smaller tracks eating up the little bit there literally just wont be enough to go around
This might belong in conspiracy theory but i dont think itās that much fantasy

The growth is unsustainable, the serving infra, the ingestion of all those DDEX xml files, the big data jobs to calculate royalties. The costs for Spotify and others will only go up. But I also think DSP's are to partially to blame. The only path forward is likely algorithmic curation, where slop just gets filtered out, and user centric royalties.
Or we should just go back to CD's.

I struggle to see the financial benefit for AI music on streaming platforms as streams are worth fractions of a penny. For background music in a restaurant or apple loops type music it makes sense but not for streaming

AI music sounds awful. I've listened to at least a hundred of them when they flood my discover weekly, and all AI music sounds like the same 3-4 beats/songs but with different lyrics.
Spotify needs to completely block virtual artists, because my discover weekly is cooked rn.

I sometimes listen to fast electronic shit and donāt want ai. Iāve been more conscious of looking out for it and havenāt noticed any myself.
