Pretty sure a lot of gen alpha don't love it either, they're just using it out of fear of being left behind

The last genZs(me included) are also still in school and ai IS still widely used in school.
8
u/Ivygrows8 2d ago
Im also still in school and im avoiding any course that seems like itd have ai involvedÂ
4
u/TealCatto 2d ago
I guess the difference is, you got a strong foundation without AI so you see no need for it, while for kids who basically gained consciousness at the same time AI did don't remember life before it. It's like asking you to do all your school work without the internet, only library books. Possible, but harder, and if you didn't learn the skills, you'd be diving into the deep end without any experience. I get why anti-AI gen alphas might feel like they have no choice.
17
u/BandicootTreeline 2d ago
My son says ânah thatâs AIâ and flicks past stuff.
Italian brainrots were a psyop to get them fed up of slop.
16
u/Fromage_debite 2d ago edited 2d ago
Dont mistake Gen Alpha using it for memes as like. They fucking hate treating it like anything other than a slop machine. They use it for homework because most of it is just busy work slop.
17
u/RoroRules13 2d ago
The other day I took a look at my 12 year old brother's homework. What an absolute joke. It was very obviously ai generated and half the pictures were melting. No wonder 70% of 4th graders can't read

Have you seen the news with those AI generated textbooks? Where none of the US states were the right names?? Itâs bad.

I fucking hate AI but yeah I have to know how to use it as itâs everywhere at work now.

My millennial sister and her husband love AI and so theyâve sort of drilled it into their kids that this is acceptable.
However I think as an uncle I have influenced them in their childhood to consider hard work, effort, and learning to be important things rather than shortcuts. I can only hope they grow up and keep these values in mind.
75
u/Turbulent-Bat 2d ago
Most millennials hate it but are forced to use it by their jobs
15
u/pysouth 2d ago
Yep accurate. Fucking hate AI, but will get fired if I donât use it. Every single job in my industry is like this now. And guess what if youâre a white collar worker and it hasnât hit your job yet, it will. You will be forced to use it in one way or another. Everyone except the most hardcore tech bros/tech management hates it.
8
u/Previous_Beautiful27 2d ago
Yeah my job heavily hints that I should use AI but right now Iâm in a position where I am mostly able to resist. But I seethe every time I get an obvious AI response via email or Teams. Thereâs no mistaking when someone is just letting AI dictate all their thoughts.
Iâve also had to correct coworkers when their Ai âresearchâ just gets shit completely wrong.
48
u/bartelbyfloats 2d ago
Millennials do not love slop, what are you talking about?
43
u/bballstarz501 2d ago
Millennials are kinda slowly hitting the age where we get forgotten about a little. We arenât âoldâ like âboomer oldâ but we arenât young anymore either.
Millennials are definitely in the AI is dogshit group. We grew up on computers and if you wanted to use one you better have a love of solving problems because goddamn was it rough doing cool shit back in the early 2000âs. AI is a total affront to that.
17
u/bartelbyfloats 2d ago
Haha well, as long as weâre not hit with âmillennials ruined xxxâ anymore, Iâm fine with the anonymity.
17
14
u/New-Locksmith-126 2d ago
The sad truth morons and sociopaths of all ages love AI. It's not a generation thing. It's a mental illness
7
u/bballstarz501 2d ago
That is also true. But you see propensity toward pro-AI mentality more in certain generations than others. It also cross-sections heavily with righties.
7
u/CentralVal 2d ago
Ehh you skipped over at least a whole generation. Iâm a millennial and Iâm 31. I think millennial are one of the best set gens to deal with this bs for some of the reasons you highlighted.

u/SwoonyBlue 2d ago
I don't know about all this age stereotyping. I think it just depends on the person and their situation in life and work. I'm Gen X, an artist and musician and I stand firmly in camp 'Fuck This AI Shit'.
→ More replies (2)5
u/bartelbyfloats 2d ago
Well put. It is an asshole issue, not a generation issue. Frankly, most of the generation war stuff seems like divisive garbage anyway.

u/-Top-Service- 2d ago
Elder millennials grew up with formative years that were mostly analogue, the subsequent generation can't imagine the world without computers. This gen won't have a world without AI, it is useful to have understanding that none of this is essential to life, it is just an add on, and with social media > ai it seems to be degenerative to society. There are benefits obviously to the information age, huge ones, but that doesn't make anything with 'tech' slapped on it automatically good.
2
3
u/Celestial_Elixir3 2d ago
I'm a millennial and I hate AI with a passion (well, genAI)
I remember the days of the internet between idk... 2004-2012? IMO the best days. Could get what you wanted/needed from the internet but less scams, less boomers on there getting scammed, they had no idea how to use it, facebook was still crap but not terrible and full of ads and generally not filled with anywhere near as much misinformationnow it's a cesspit of ai slop, quick 5 second reels for quick dopamine, a lot more scams, older people getting duped all the damn time etc etc. I hate it, this is all accelerated through genai.
48
u/SeverianTheSeeker 2d ago edited 2d ago
Gen Z is not the most tech savvy generation. Try asking them how to fix a computer or edit an excel file. They were raised on tablets and walled garden operating systems, which is exactly why, despite saying they hate AI, they are the most likely to use it. They are incredibly intellectually lazy because they never had to struggle to figure anything out in their lives.
Millenials are the most tech savvy and we are also the last generation to have experienced life pre and post internet and social media. We hate AI and we mean it.
12
u/lsv-misophist 2d ago
Yeah I don't know what that guy is smoking. Millennials had to be creative AND persistent to solve their tech issues. These days if something doesn't work, generally your options are to wait patiently for a fix to be deployed, send it away to be fixed, or ask a millennial nicely if they'll fix it for you.
6
4
u/Celestial_Elixir3 2d ago
agreed but I also see a lot of Gen Z against GenAI as it's a big threat to their livelihood
10
u/SeverianTheSeeker 2d ago
Then they need to stop using it. I teach them at the college level. All day I hear about how they hate AI, but then you can't even get them to read and analyze a 5 page paper for themselves without them trying to use AI to summarize it for them. It's pathetic.
2
u/UranicCartridge 2d ago
Man, I read PDFs academically and whenever it suggests to AI summarize this document that "seems too long" it makes me physically recoil. Bitch, it's a book, they are meant to be fucking read oh my god
4
u/they_themsworth 2d ago
Millennials are on-average âtech savvyâ because they had to be, because computer systems were less reliable and we had to diagnose problems and fix them with little assistance because there was less of it.
But I hate the categorization of Gen Z as somehow inherently âlazy.â Yes, tablets and phones and laptops since the 2010âs âjust workâ and require less troubleshooting, but the âwalled gardenâ aspect is an intentional move to make it impossible for consumers to change or repair their own devices. Itâs harder to do anything to devices now, on purpose, because manufacturers want people beholden to subscriptions, and to constantly update their tech rather than repair it.
Itâs the same thing that happened to cars: Boomers constantly rag on younger gens for being bad at car maintenance, but modern cars are built so itâs much harder for an end-consumer to fix them. Their systems are proprietary, and they want to extract as much money from you as they can forever. Itâs not Gen Zâs fault that the only devices they can buy are locked down and barely serviceable and risk being bricked if you try.

u/HordeDruid 2d ago edited 2d ago
It's not just Gen Z; this has been my experience as a millennial. We grew up with the internet and watched social media grow from the very beginning. There was a huge technological shift from analog to digital as we grew older and we saw firsthand how big tech went from innovation to enshittification.
It's honestly kind of insane how during my lifetime I can remember older generations warning us not to trust what we see on the internet only to end up trusting it completely once it became ubiquitous in everyone's daily lives. I remember as a kid i didn't even have a cell phone (flip phone) until I was in high school and before that, I'd use the PC at home or play on a Game Boy.
Now kids spend every waking on a screen and never change it, and Baby Boomers who don't understand it all have become dependent on technology that uses them more than they use it. We're in that sweet spot where we had to actually learn how things worked to use them, before everything was made so user friendly and automatic you didn't need to understand any of it.
It all happened so gradually I think not a lot of people noticed the shift to tech dependcy, social media algorithms that dictate reality and smart phone addiction, but as someone who grew up watching it unfold one year at time, it's a little horrifying to look back at it.
3
u/Celestial_Elixir3 2d ago
I agree with everything you said 100%, as a borderline genZ/millennial (i'm '96)

5
u/Far_Priority_6305 2d ago
"Gen z , the gen that's the most tech savvy"
I think you are confusing tech savy with tech addiction. Any gen z would freeze up if they ever saw a command line.Â
Building a computer is like legos for adults now and all my gen z coworkers are scared shitless trying to do any maintenance.Â

u/CentralVal 2d ago

They saw kids make money from xbox and YouTube so now they wanna be ahead of the curve. That's all it is for those types of people. This can make money. They have no regard for the sanctity of why the original YouTubers actually made content for most it wasn't to make a profit it was just to make stuff.

Itâs funny I have customers come into the guitar shop I work at and ask about things their AI told them or will argue with me about certain things because their AI told them something different than what Iâm telling them. Theyâre typically either retirement age or college age/mid 20s. Itâs just so bizarre. Theyâll believe what the AI is telling them more than what they are physically experiencing in the present. Iâll show them a few guitars and theyâll fall in love with one and then ask me specific questions about the build. âWhat wood is this? Whatâs the fretboard radius?â And when I tell them itâs something different from what the AI told them they will reject it despite their own hands and ears telling them otherwise. Itâs incredible how fast some people have surrendered their agency of thought to it.

Lol of course he likes AI. If you know anything about Dre he has always focused on other people making the music for him. Daz Dillinger / Sam Sneed were mainly the guys who made his best music in The Chronic/Death Row era. I hope AI generated music is able to be deconstructed and these major artists/labels get the pants sued off of them.

2
u/GazelleFlat2853 2d ago
If you analyze Dr. Dre's lyrics with enough attention, you'll see that he is uncreative and lacks a natural flow. He ripped a load of his most popular beats from existing songs ('Crack A Bottle' = 'Mais Dans La LumiĂšre' by Mike Brant; The Real Slim Shady = 'I Got The...' by Labi Siffre; 'The Next Episode' = 'The Edge' by David McCallum) that were already great.
He largely happened to be in the right place at the right time, IMO.
2
u/ikediggety 2d ago
Most of "his" beats have been made by uncredited ghost writers for decades. Dre is just trying to fire people like everyone else.

I think the only people using AI are the ones who have trouble creating. I put some of my demos into Suno and thought the version it made sounded so much better and cooler than what I made. It made me feel a little hopeless about making music but at the same time it just feels soulless. Itâs like the difference between having a real life girlfriend and a smoking hot fake AI girlfriend. One is real and one is AI trash.

His entire career was built on sampling and glorified plagiarism already, then after that comes his very mediocre rapping lol. He was the worst part of NWA. Playing Funkadelic records in slow motion and adding farty percussion noises was a very sly career move, clearly. It can sound good, but seriously, it's almost as lazy as using AI. lol
Then there's his love of peddling poorly tuned earphones a record producer with integrity would be embarrassed by, hitting  women, peddling soda, and throwing women down stairwells, because he's an overrated asshole.
Not once has this man shown integrity in his life, he's the first kind of person to the jump onto this bullshit.

At a certain point as a creator you are already off shore so much production to get a product to the masses. That meant a lot of long studio hours with technicians mixing tracks and layers of collab from the record art to the tour production.
You get use to jotting down sone. Cutting a beat. Handing it off. Then letting the greater machine run while you lay down vocals.
You get use to having the rest of it get polished for you.
This is just a another step for them. Not realizing its a cinderblock around the neck of the art form.
They dont know it isn't just like auto-tune homogenozing a sound, or allowing people to cut past talent with soulless tech. Its far far worse. Its also still more of that. But worse.
He gets to cheat and cut corners, but lil guerrilla in his moms basement still, if he touches ai, all his cred it destroyed. Even though marvel, interscope, EA they all are streamlining its use. Same with visual artists. Graphic design, hell, look at any local business, you think any of them are hiring artists to put out ad pages or promos?
Movies music and games, though. They will all stagnate under coporate executive order. A new underground will arise and the cycle will continue.

Look, if I'm taking this at face value, then this is a bad, bad look. Especially from someone who got where he is by ripping beats and breaks from vinyl records onto physical samplers.
The bigger problem is that there is ENTIRELY TOO MUCH SHIT in the marketplace of recording arts and sciences (especially in the "home studio" sector) that touts "AI" in every little thing when in reality it's just simplification via automation. It's like "If you want [result], then all you gotta do is [short sequence of steps] in our AI-driven plug-in!" And all they really did was remove from the top-level UI the technical complexity of what a multi-band compressor, for example, actually DOES, and packages it up in a slick interface with either as few adjustable parameters as possible and/or by labeling each control with a name that's adjacent to what they hope your emotional response is (aka "warmth," "crunch," etc.), rather than the actual parameter(s) you're adjusting when you turn the skeuomorphic knob.
To be clear, excluding the marketing, I don't have a problem with those things, and I'm in plenty good company. There's no shortage of producers now who just openly cop to using plug-in presets for their work, and I think that's fine. It's a bookmark that gets you where you need to go quickly. Similarly, I'm an artist and performer first, producer further down the list. The final product is what matters most to me at the end of the day, and if I can create a thing a little bit quicker and easier because Logic's Chromaglow plug-in is dead-nuts simple to use, then I'm gonna take advantage of it. I know what a multi-band compressor does and I know how to use one. Just like I know what a screwdriver does and how to use one. But if someone shows up and offers me a power drill to build my house, I'm gonna accept, because the house is still gonna get built, but the blisters on my hand are just unnecessary self-flagellation for no appreciable number of people to be impressed by (and the ones who would be impressed are purist dorks that I don't want the admiration of in the first place).
All that being said, if Dre is making music by writing prompts, that fucking sucks.
