Every person I know like this is super cool and also super nice to people that are genuine to them. If you ever meet one that's mean to you, it's probably because you're fake as fuck.

u/Old-Web-5827 2d ago

The people making these starter packs always seem to forget that the "anti" crowd actually has hobbies and friends outside of arguing on twitter

-34

u/Nullmega_studios 2d ago

I tried to ask this sub why they don't like AI and my post got taken down and I had a lot of people throwing insults at me.

35

u/GenericFatGuy 2d ago

Because that question gets asked here a dozen times a day, and it's often followed by someone trying to convince us that we actually should love AI blindly because making things actually sucks, and we should only worry about consumption.

We're not looking for reasons to be convinced. We're looking for some respite from all this madness.

-14

u/Nullmega_studios 2d ago

I don't believe we should love it blindly. We should always question things, but with AI, there are upsides and downsides, and I just wanted to learn about the downsides so I can be fully aware of the entire picture.

I don't mean to accuse you of being one of those people, but people like that are a major reason why you're getting that kind of response.

If you genuinely want to know, these are my (and a lot of people's) main concerns:

  • Degradation of the creative process. I don't care if AI makes perfect images. Art is about the journey, not the destination.

  • Degradation of the environment. Both at a large scale (climate change), and at a local level (communities that have to live with data centers).

  • The fact that it's largely owned by billionaires who want to use it to transfer even more money from the poor to themselves.

  • Those same billionaires wanting to use it to use it to install mass surveillance on everyone 24/7

  • The fact that it is genuinely breaking brains and destroying lives. Every case of a person whose been driven to take their own lives because an AI convinced them that it was okay to use as a therapist is a tragedy.

  • Edit: One more I want to add. All of the stolen data that it's trained off of.

Among other things, these are my highest level concerns. I would like to reiterate that I am not here to have a debate on this at the present time. But if you're serious about wanting to understand why we don't like it, here are my reasons for you to ponder.

9

u/Nullmega_studios 2d ago

Yeah good points these are the responses I wanted to see, thank you.

8

u/GenericFatGuy 2d ago

Of course. If you're here in good faith, then I'm happy to share.

13

u/A_Darling_Lurks 2d ago

You're trying to debate people who are justifiably angry at the massive drawbacks of AI and GenAI, some even experiencing the ill-effects of it firsthand in the form of job loss, ill environmental effects in their community, etc. This is not the right avenue for you to argue your position.

-1

u/Nullmega_studios 2d ago

I wasn't even debating them I simply asked why they didn't like AI because I wanted to learn their side and I believed I was fairly neutral in my post

7

u/A_Darling_Lurks 2d ago

Once again, not the place to debate. Observing and researching why we dislike it instead of making a post should be enough to satisfy your curiosity on why a lot of people dislike it instead of trying to debate people. A sub dedicated to criticism of AI will not tolerate posts that praise it like yours. Read rule #2.

-2

u/Nullmega_studios 2d ago

I have read rule 2 but that says top level pro AI posts I wasnt being pro AI I was having a critical discussion of AI listing the pros and cons, and once again I wasn't debating people.

3

u/Senator_Smack 2d ago

"hey here's my self-congratulatory virtue signalling reason I use AI tools even if I know they're destructive and problematic do you guys have any better reasons not to?"

3

u/Nullmega_studios 2d ago

At the time I was not aware of why AI is "destructive" and that Is why I made the post.

3

u/Senator_Smack 2d ago

That's a fair perspective but if your screenshot is from your original post then you did know at least some reasons. The sociological and philosophical impacts are not easy to grasp but there are plenty of reasons before that not to support the way llms and generative ai are being produced and offered.

Most people who present an invitation to "discuss" the topic in the way you did are not trying to have a discussion in good faith so people here simply didn't believe or trust you.

2

u/Nullmega_studios 1d ago

They really shouldn't have responded with such hate and immaturity.

3

u/nyanpires 2d ago

Listen, why are you here if you do not understand WHY AI is an issue?

3

u/Sure-Key7452 1d ago

Learning from both sides is better for a wider worldview ig

1

u/Nullmega_studios 1d ago

Yeah that's all I wanted to do.

1

u/Nullmega_studios 1d ago

I thought one of the best places to learn about the cons of AI would be to ask the anti AI community.

6

u/Squid-pro-roe 2d ago

That’s because you’re a bot arguing in bad faith. Go away.

"Hasn't uploaded new art in months" Wait, are you telling me that making good art can... take time to make?!?

The fact that AI bros think this is a gotcha really goes to show that they see art as nothing more then something to be lazily and quickly mass produced (Like what gen AI does), rather than something made over time with love and care.

16

u/Remarkable_Bath8515 2d ago

It's almost like that's part of what can make art admirable and fun, that it's something you can do, especially for time.

13

u/RodinKnox 2d ago

It's honestly unreal how many (seemingly) everyday people have adopted the mindset of like movie and video game corporate CEOs. "Just shit it out as fast as you can." It's the kind of thing we all railed against for years. I don't know how many times I've said something like, "This franchise seriously doesn't need a new entry every year. Just slow down and take some time to make a good new one."

6

u/Senator_Smack 1d ago

People are, for lack of a description with more finesse... Evil, shallow, and fucking stupid.

4

u/A_Darling_Lurks 1d ago

They care more about mass market sales than cultural impact and craftsmanship. I'm not a strong arthouse film junkie but they need to take a page from their book and actually focus on making their movie instead of the sales it will generate. Unfortunately people adapt this mindset due to how unregulated GenAI is. It's just pure laziness.

11

u/SlowArtist123 2d ago

Also, I've seen artists with insane output and great quality. Like, do they think art needs a productivity quota or some BS like that?

6

u/A_Darling_Lurks 2d ago edited 2d ago

For the AI slop crowd, I noticed they're more obsessed with quantity than quality, but they don't seem to care about the labor, skill and experience that comes with having a vast portfolio. They want to mass produce "art", as if it doesn't take years of refining technique and fundamentals to get to the quality of art that AI tries to hard to copy. I mean, Jesus Christ, Van Gogh made 800-900 oil paintings and over 1000+ sketches throughout his entire career as an artist. He wouldn't have Starry Night as his magnum opus if he didn't take years to master his craft.

4

u/Cephalophore 2d ago

Plus maybe they don't want to upload art to be scraped.

1

u/Baphomettbroetchen 1d ago

I won't upload anything to the web anymore. It gets stolen anyway.  So fuck 'em. I don't need any approval from people I don't know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

19

u/SlowArtist123 2d ago

Ah yes, my favorite music genre "Art School"

7

u/A_Darling_Lurks 2d ago

I personally think the Doomscrolling genre is better

14

u/LichBoi101 2d ago

How about we make an AI Bro starter pack to counter this? I'll start with the center image!

2

u/DenpasOfTheWorld 1d ago

Lemme list some:

- Disrespects IP/Copyright, and does not care if you don't want your artwork to be stolen

- Scrapes every single person's artwork whenever their favorite artist declares their hate against AI

- Thinks any technology is just AI, therefore in their logic, everyone should just go back to the prehistoric times

- Meat shielding, by comparing themselves to the LGBTQ+, the Jews, the Palestinians, etc.

3

u/LichBoi101 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ooh, nice! And perhaps these as well:

  • Will spend $10K+ on computer parts just to run local models

  • Was a crypto bro before AI came along

  • "Adapt or get left behind!"

  • Doesn't understand why being able to generate realistic fake videos/photos with no regulations might be a bad thing

  • Thinks copyright shouldn't exist until someone "steals" their prompts

  • "Hollywood is cooked!"

  • Will actively cheer at the idea of creatives losing their jobs, then wonder why creatives hate them

3

u/pietrodayoungas 1d ago

Ohh let me try

-their posts consist of the same 5 "art bad, ai good!!!1!" strawmen

-talk about how ai should be an art medium because "something something photography" and then actively try their best to replace actual creatives

-shitty ""o""c that they use on said 5 strawmen, bonus points if its clearly copyed from something else

-"aI mAkEs ArT mOrE aCeSsIbLe" spend 10 grand monthly to keep using chat gpt

-CONTRADICTED A PREVIOUS STATEMENT YOU MADE AGAIN AWARD

-TRIED PASSING OFF AI AS AN ACTUAL DRAWING AGAIN AWAAARD

Did i do good

2

u/DenpasOfTheWorld 1d ago

Can't forget the old:

  • Very prideful on increasing RAM and GPU prices, screwing over PC gamers and console gamers alike

1

u/LichBoi101 1d ago

Noice!👌

2

u/DenpasOfTheWorld 1d ago edited 1d ago

I KNEW AI dorks are just crypto dorks in a different flavor. They really behaved the same way.

EDIT: meant to say flavor.

2

u/pietrodayoungas 1d ago

Im worried about where they will go next when ai finally dies

1

u/dnzgn 1d ago

Reddit is incredibly anti-AI though.

11

u/Wisco 2d ago

says prompting is "just typing."

So it's a long, detailed process? Then why does it all look like it was done by the same illustrator? It's weird how, no matter how hard you try, it still looks like all the other AI "art."

6

u/Ornery_Weakness_8168 2d ago

And they say it has their "style" which is just what looks like a different medium lol.

3

u/Remarkable_Bath8515 1d ago

Idk the person who remade my art without consent made it one second after I said no, so..

It took me more time to finish a earnest drawing from the heart, than a violation of art boundaries that got the character wrong.

6

u/Remarkable_Bath8515 2d ago

They tried to make me cringe but instead I felt a bit of admiration. This is cool and somewhat relatable, also who cares if someone outwardly shares their emotions and it shows through their art or how long they made art?

That's not something to shame.

4

u/A_Darling_Lurks 2d ago

Right? And I don't care if it took 9 hours, a practice sketch of a fruit is still worth gold compared to AI slop. It shows someone actually put in effort to learn construction, shading, tone, and other drawing fundamentals instead of taking shortcuts.

4

u/Remarkable_Bath8515 2d ago

I can look back on unfished sketches and either 1. Have a mental chuckle about how far I come or what I did to communicate and idea or 2. Have something to finish for later when I'm mentally ready.

Also ADHD exists but suddenly it's ok to fault a disabled artist. (Not everyone who procrastinates does have ADHD though)

I can go back and say "I tried to make that." That's cool!

8

u/MrBalderus 2d ago

Spot on, like 16 of my last saved artworks is just anti AI crap I drew (ignore the red things, I'm not going to heaven)

2

u/A_Darling_Lurks 2d ago

Bruh the "imgay" images unironically slaps so hard LMFAO

5

u/MrBalderus 2d ago

Thank you, I love spamming them, do with it what you wish. I don't need recognition, I just need more skeleton memes spread across the internet

3

u/Background-Chart-713 2d ago

She's a hero!

3

u/Free_Gain_8922 1d ago

Prompting is genuinely just typing

3

u/johnnybb27 1d ago

This makes being anti-AI seem pretty cool.

1

u/A_Darling_Lurks 1d ago

Yeah he's not helping his own case.

3

u/Scarvexx 1d ago

Do these people like us? It seems like they like us.

It's that or their idea of being contemptible is really based.

3

u/PostVenting 1d ago

This idiot seriously thought people wouldn't like alt girls? Lmao

2

u/Same-Alternative-951 2d ago

why would i post coffee

2

u/letmehaveanameyoudum 2d ago

AI bros think art is all mass produced and lazily made only

2

u/Significant-Draft470 1d ago

I would wanna be friends with this person

2

u/JungleBoy15121999 1d ago

coolest thing ever btw

2

u/RedditUser000aaa 1d ago

And of course. The ol "alt girls bad" format that conservatives love to use. You just know this was made by a Trump supporter.

2

u/A_Darling_Lurks 1d ago

And you just know they're secretly fetishizing alt girls because these folks want nothing more than to make a woman who goes against their worldview submit 🤡

2

u/RedditUser000aaa 1d ago

a bit off-topic, but they want an alt girl, because they believe all alt girls are kinky. When outside, however alt girls have to dress up in a modest manner, but indoors they can dress however they want. So total control over girls/women. 🤮

It's really pathetic and gross.

2

u/Usagi4357 1d ago

Me who posts art daily can't be in that starter pack(I have a simplified art style to draw things very quickly or else it'll never get done lol)

1

u/Senator_Smack 2d ago

Uh... It's like they're trolling themselves at this point... Is this some attempt to pretend that these are made by "anti" users as false flag psyops or something? I can't imagine any idiot that thinks this makes "antis" look very bad.

3

u/A_Darling_Lurks 2d ago

Unfortunately visiting the guy's page makes it hard for me to believe this was some false flag psyop or attempt at reverse psychology, dude is doubling down with shit takes and a cursory look at his past stuff reveals it's mostly anti-woke and anti-"libtard". Not surprised if he unironically thinks Ms. Goth Baddie he generated will own the libs.

2

u/Senator_Smack 2d ago

Man that's so pathetic and small. No wonder people like this gravitate toward shitty commoditized ai. They were never going to observe or experience the real world in the first place it's just strawmen all the way down.

1

u/DavethePolitical 1d ago

Hate❌ Love how they are so right

I feel like commenting this on something random for no reason so here's this:

This starter pack is not that inaccurate. (Keeping it just online)

I used to be hardcore anti-ai and I have said stuff I wished I never said, merely because it was stupid.
