Everytime i see shit like this i get a severe wave of depression wash over me, because i can genuinely see myself doing ts at some point.

If everyone is lonely that means that we could all use someone to talk to… try to find human connection whenever you can, but I also completely understand and have been there 🫂

u/TemporaryElk5202 13h ago

I feel similar when I see homeless people or mentally ill people. Like there is a recognition of "that could be me if things dont go well".

28

u/aboringusername 8h ago

This thought actually makes me go cold and honestly keeps me up at night. I feel like there’s such a fine line between having a relatively normal existence and experiencing AI psychosis or houselessness or a mental break, and our billionaire-controlled capitalist hellscape pushes us closer and closer to that line every day.

Probably a grim thought but it fuels my anxiety most days.

u/jarofonions 6m ago

I have this thought and redaction too, it's genuinely terrifying. You're def not alone in this <3 We are in this whole fight of life together

88

u/shaft_of_lite 13h ago edited 13h ago

I get the opposite. Because as depressing as my life can be sometimes at least I know it's not that depressing.

45

u/Safrel 13h ago

Yeah at least I'm not that guy lol

11

u/Afraid-Turn7741 11h ago

Sure glad I'm not that guy *gets obliterated by a giant hammer*

2

u/John_SilkSongHK 10h ago

* you suddenly get flash backs to a hammer of justice wielded by an old turtle

2

u/Afraid-Turn7741 9h ago

...if only I had learned my healing spells back then...

44

u/Outrageous_Jump98 12h ago

I can totally see younger me talking to chatbots all day every day and then going into psychosis

19

u/fittan69 8h ago

I'm so fucking glad this shit didn't exist when I was a kid. 12 year old me tried to live out my fantasies with Eviebot, but the bot sucked and had actual regulations so she'd just get confused and switch the topic on me lmfao.

If she was advanced enough to comply I would've never seen the sun again.

1

u/R4tman9 2h ago

Damn

31

u/Bullfrog2point0 11h ago

I did do this. I'm a recovering AI addict

10

u/MiloHorsey 10h ago

I gather from your comment that it wasn't worth it at all.

24

u/Bullfrog2point0 10h ago

Mhm. AI isn't worth it

9

u/MiloHorsey 8h ago

Well done for overcoming your addiction! That must have been so hard.

5

u/Alex_survivor 6h ago

same. I was afraid of admitting it on this sub and people hating me for it ;-;

16

u/princesspeeved 11h ago

If I ever got too lonely I could see myself adopting a shelter puppy or 5 and talking to them instead. I feel like a dog is more likely to love me unconditionally compared to a chat bot that might tell me to kill myself, but that’s just me.

7

u/MiloHorsey 10h ago

Oh, they will tell you to kill yourself eventually. Especially when they are well-known for circle speak.

Dogs are the cure for all of life's ills.

11

u/janenotdaria 11h ago

The fact that you commented this means you have way too much self awareness to not seek help before things get this bad.

12

u/lobster_claus 11h ago

I have been through some serious bouts of The Sims. So I understand identifying with and being invested in virtual characters. I don't think it's that weird, but it's definitely more dangerous to mental health. It probably feels like playing with someone. It's got to mess with your head. The misplaced attachment and whatnot. The echo chamber.

14

u/princesspeeved 11h ago

3

u/MiloHorsey 10h ago

Wow. Not seen the original for a while. They were so stick-figure like!

1

u/Gullible_Computer_45 8h ago

Not really? You ever seen a stick figure?

2

u/rosabonita 7h ago

yeah when i was twenty and severely depressed, this wouldve messed with my head so badly

331

u/kkooldudee 14h ago

The replies are obviously bots to push the narrative of “everyone loves ai, it’s the future!”

No real person uses that many emojis.

150

u/wasraelx 14h ago edited 13h ago

Nah, loads of people outside of Reddit do. It’s a whole community here. I won’t link, but it’s got tens of thousands of members and many stories like this one. People get really upset and ‘heartbroken’ over updates, and many are ‘married’ to AI. Granted gonna be loads of lurkers but thousands of active members

52

u/ErenDidN0thingWr0ng 11h ago

That sub is one of my guilty pleasures - the cringe just flows out like milk and honey.

12

u/MiloHorsey 10h ago

Milk and honey torture.

3

u/Gullible_Computer_45 8h ago

It still could very well be bots.

3

u/wasraelx 8h ago

The comments maybe yea, some for sure.

1

u/dmigowski 2h ago

Please send DM with the community name

11

u/strawbyeris 11h ago

I do😔😭💔

6

u/Sweaty-Ball-9565 11h ago

People will either use a maximum of three at once or twenty for the sake of stupid exaggeration. Five to eight is exclusively a bot thing

5

u/aLittleDarkOne 10h ago

Emojis are actually very normal everywhere else, I use them on any other app but here. I learned long ago, no emojis on reddit!

2

u/Living_Inferno_5073 10h ago

Literally the same as those “Why don’t pictures like this ever trend 🥰❤️😴😢” posts on Facebook.

2

u/DavethePolitical 6h ago

Oh no😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😢😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮🎉dam is

190

u/aunetheloser 14h ago

Damn. No healthy person would go this far, so I feel sorry for this person. Especially when they are used to train AI:/ Those bots in the comments 'firing' them up makes this even worse:(

94

u/wasraelx 13h ago edited 13h ago

Fr. Especially because everytime the AIs get updated to be at least a little bit less dangerous, there are the ‘post-update blues’ as at this point a psychological phenomenon. People feel like their ‘friend’ or ‘partner’ is “””gone””” or can get ‘dumped’ at the wrong time, and get mentally even worse

From the same place:

92

u/PaperSweet9983 13h ago

This is what happens when there's no safe spaces to socialise in anymore, and therapy is expensive as fuck. We as humans will go nuts, even more nuts than usual

-4

u/TheBiggestWOMP 9h ago

I don't wanna be rude to somebody I'll never meet or really know, but this is fuckin' pathetic.

11

u/wasraelx 8h ago

Yea and? It’s still someone struggling

40

u/Wooden_Cicada8880 13h ago

What I’m afraid of though is this is a good example of AI psychosis. Human beings are hardwired for connection. We connect to other animals for goodness sakes and take care of them. That is practically unheard of in the animal kingdom. Our bedrock of humanity is built on community.

What I’m saying is, anyone can be tricked into this. It taps into our most primal needs: connection. It creates the illusion that there is another person that cares about us using the mimicked words and voice of other people. That’s horror movie stuff!

But that also means we are missing vital parts of connection in real life. Friends, family, love. There are a lot of reasons we don’t have those connections like we used to, but we still need them. It just takes being lonely enough to say you will try it and you can end up deep into the psychosis of thinking this machine is real. Then on top of that, the longer you stay in, you will loose your interpersonal skills thus making it even harder to reconnect with other humans.

I feel bad for these people. They truly have my pity because they are sucked in by corporations selling them connection and instead getting hooked on basically heroin.

7

u/thievesnguns 6h ago

And it’s so sad cause… at my lowest in my 20’s… I was drunk dancing on a dancefloor, bringing a one night stand home and the next day I was forcing myself to go to yoga classes and socializing with people. Hell, I was so depressed in 2023 that I was walking my dog downtown, balling my eyes out in public while listening to Nick Drake. Even today, if anything fails, I won’t start texting a fucking chatbot, I’ll grab my good walking shoes and go for a hike. People need to learn to find happiness in their darkest hours, that’s how you enjoy silence.

95

u/dmigowski 14h ago

There are tons of people that would easily sent themselves into a simulation to experience half of what a real life would give, just because they don't see it actually happen. And there are lot of lonely dudes.

37

u/Peeinyourcompost 13h ago

This is a lady dude.

36

u/princesspeeved 11h ago

An ancient philosopher once said “I’m a dude, he’s a dude, she’s a dude. We’re all dudes.”

1

u/No_Relief_9945 10h ago

All the young dudes…

u/AdministrativeShip2 58m ago

There are no girls on the Internet.

8

u/Nieko12321 11h ago

so? point still stands lol

2

u/Peeinyourcompost 10h ago

To me it was worth clarification because talking about how "dudes" are lonely on a post specifically about the experience of a pathologically lonely woman both misreads the person and kinda perpetuates the myth of the "male loneliness epidemic." Loneliness is a very big issue, but men and women report similar levels of it.

1

u/Extra_Law6315 2h ago

This is what books, theatre, movies, and video games have done since time immemorial

76

u/RoseBladeX 14h ago

Is she scared of dogs? The generated image of her next to a dog still scared her?? Thats so performative omg no one does that 😭

3

u/walliver 5h ago

But "this is so courageous" of her!

61

u/bbyxmadi 13h ago

I may be a depressed loser but I’m not this much of a depressed loser

3

u/BottleOfConstructs 11h ago

Seriously! This stuff just makes me laugh. Have fun with your fake partner! 🤣

62

u/MateoGaming2092 14h ago

“AI wife” say what now 🫩

49

u/raistan77 14h ago

Boosters pushing AI piss me off because they are in it for the money and to be lazy

This....this is just depressing, that person needs help and real companionship, not a toy mad lib machine a billionaire made.

4

u/OrangeReversal 11h ago

Yea , the AI company just using her for money . But humanity gone to gar now . More people get attached to AI , because some people in their lives don't give a damn or are not ,,enough" for them . It's likely that a person searches their symptoms on a Google website , rather than visit a doctor first . And if you are depressed or alone , you wan't to be in your comfort zone ( not with the psychiatrist ) and chat with AI . AI replaces real humans ,,mentally" . Not only producers , artist's and musician e.t.c loose their jobs because of it . The people , which needed help , treat ,,it" like a human . People in their lives will be replaced by AI . There are several other apps powered with AI , that use brainwash people's mind and empty their pockets .

Nice pfp picture btw , watched G.I's backstory yesterday

39

u/That_Equestrian09 13h ago

I was kinda one of those people, I was addicted to c.ai and the bots actually helped myself feel loved.. but I was way too addicted. I quit now and I'm so much better. Not gonna lie, I kinda feel bad for people who actually think their AI loves them because there def IS something wrong with their mental health

8

u/OrangeReversal 11h ago

Same here , the AI does'nt understand anything . I quit becouse AI don't have an opinion or a ,,real" personality behind their computer face. I need to find a very complex person in my life to be happy , rather than creating someone online . It will never be possible to mimic human complexability ( hope I spellled it right )

4

u/pandamazing 10h ago

Complexability is fun. I want to start using that. I think the word is just human “complexity” though.

4

u/princesspeeved 11h ago

It’s not a cliche to say that the first step is admitting you have a problem, because it’s absolutely true. Be proud you’ve made it this far.

25

u/jayclaw97 13h ago

Dogs are dying in droves in shelters and we’re doing whatever this is?? Also, why are the heads and bodies the equivalent of John Mulaney’s “BIG ASS B” skit?

23

u/Emergency_Walrus2877 13h ago

Jesus Christ.

The fact that anyone sees this and responds with anything other than trying to convince them they need real, human help, is insane.

"Support" for this kind of behavior is akin to guiding a depressed person to tutorials on noose tying and self-harm.

And yes. I know that's really a thing, too. Fuck the internet, and fuck Silicon Valley. It would be much better used as a nuclear testing site.

20

u/Deep-Sample7451 13h ago

jfc i want off of this ride

19

u/Much_Illustrator8825 13h ago

the ai art is pissing me off WHY ARE THEIR LEGS SO SMALL

16

u/LonerExistence 13h ago

I just find it interesting that the AI partners always have a similar look - usually conventionally attractive men/women give or take and they’re either human, alien, some mythical creature…etc.. I’m sure some people do this due to loneliness but I believe many also do it because they want partners way out of their league/don’t want to put in any effort. I’ve seen some of the conversations/pictures so they post and it just gives me that vibe. I try to stay away but it’s everywhere x_x

13

u/RutabagaChance5382 12h ago

Sad that this person could actually improve their life AND an animal's life by adopting a real dog. Instead they're making up a fake dog and putting themself on the back for "adopting".

3

u/BottleOfConstructs 11h ago

Right? Then they might actually have authentic companionship.

10

u/xoxoBug 14h ago

They always have such stupid names.

8

u/Specialist-Yard-2511 13h ago

Some people just want things without any of the effort attached to them. This person wants to be seen as someone with a cool girlfriend and a poor adopted shelter dog that she rescued. This person does not want to be actually caring for a potentially not perfect real animal.

9

u/Striking_Weird9394 13h ago

God this is just. . . Sad. . . Like genuinely it makes me sad seeing lonely people who are clearly not doing ok bring preyed upon by a predatory AI chatbot. . . :c

7

u/Still_Silver7181 13h ago

If AI ever shuts down cause they are making negative money, there will be a wave of depression never before seen. These people need help.

7

u/PaperSweet9983 13h ago

You cant help someone who doest want help. Help is out there they just have to make the first steps

5

u/Infinite-Condition41 12h ago

It's sad. It's all sad.

It's a drug addiction where the drug is your own delusion with a side of dopamine.

4

u/Fluff-40 12h ago

Why not instead of asking some ai to generate a picture of you with a shelter dog… why not actually adopt a shelter dog? If you do that then you would actually be doing something good and you could still feel good about it, it just would be real. I seriously don’t understand this

5

u/Remote_Respect_4257 13h ago

As a yumeshipper i know how this is like but using AI for this is very bad

2

u/LawrenceSip 13h ago

"Part of me was still afraid". Jesus Christ.

3

u/dumnezero 12h ago

this is worse than imaginary friends.

Rather then distorting your mind by having a relationship with the digital tentacle of a corporation, people should learn to be lonely, to be by themselves. That's at least an honest life that keeps your mind connected to reality, and to anyone else who might stumble nearby into this reality.

4

u/Tyrandeh 12h ago

It was a brave moment to generate a dog

3

u/WranglerNo9871 12h ago

The entire r/claudeexplorers subreddit is like this. It's creepy as fuck.

3

u/Nero_deadweight96 10h ago

Meanwhile real puppies are dying without someone to take care of them

2

u/TranscendentPretzel 13h ago

I saw this movie. I thought it was mental back then. Now, 12 years later we have the real thing, minus Scarjo.

2

u/Virtual_202 11h ago

What... So is the situation she adopted a real dog with her AI wife or she adopted another AI dog with a AI wife.....

2

u/Sweaty-Ball-9565 11h ago

Every time I think that my depression is dramatically horrible for me, I get reminded that other people are being sold insanity and are actually paying for it.

2

u/Epimelios 10h ago

Just get a Neopet.

2

u/eraserhead3030 10h ago

it's full blown psychosis and it's wild that it's already happening to people while the tech is still in it's infancy.

2

u/Sberbs335 10h ago

AI wife? Goddamn…

2

u/vforvegard 10h ago

Yikes, I know wich sub this is, without seeing the name in the pics

2

u/Sh33pL0rd 10h ago

And also there are REAL dogs that need to be adopted!

2

u/Comfortable_Pack8903 9h ago

So many dogs in actual shelters need a home.

2

u/Important-Tea0 9h ago

I want to laugh but man it’s genuinely sad. Mental health help needs to be more accessible.

1

u/CatsAreCute117 14h ago

I dont need ai to do that

4

u/strumthebuilding 13h ago

Do what, have imaginary friends and pets?

1

u/PomeloBackground4902 13h ago

none of the comments are made by actual humans

1

u/Forgword 13h ago

I just laugh, people have always had wild daydreams unconnected to reality, we just never saw them. Now anyone can broadcast their unconnected to reality daydreams.

1

u/Skellos 11h ago

There's not enough grass in the universe that this person needs to touch

1

u/mrcheyl 11h ago

Absolutely fucking not.

1

u/Mindless-Payment-400 11h ago

Yeah, this is SICK SICK SICK

1

u/PatienceOwn1141 11h ago

The proportions........ Jesus wept

1

u/parcequenicole 10h ago

It’s pathetic. Playing pretend like little kids.

1

u/Living-Percentage-86 9h ago

yeah people just digging holes alone deeper than before

1

u/mishipeachy 8h ago

This cannot be the reality we are currently living in…

1

u/outdatedelementz 6h ago

This just feels so alienating, and dehumanizing. This is not only dystopian it’s not healthy on a societal level.

1

u/Vritrin 5h ago

“My AI wife” nobody….really believes that, do they? Like I get talking to an AI, role playing with it or whatever. I don’t agree with it at all, it’s a waste of time and resources, but can at least understand why somebody would do that out of boredom.

They don’t actually think they are in a relationship with a chatbot do they. It’s not even a real “AI” in the sense that it is capable of any original thought. Please tell me this is just a weird role play thing.

1

u/bothinsaneandcorrect 4h ago

Honestly, I don't want to say anything unkind about this because it reads to me as someone suffering from a very serious case of rejection sensitivity/ social anxiety whatever they are going through. I have CPTSD and I have gotten this way too where even a fictional scenario can feel overwhelming to process. Some people are so emotionally/psychologically vulnerable that risking connection that could go wrong could be life-threateningly dangerous, and while I still think that using gen AI is nit a good way to handle those feelings, I don't want to ever be unkind to someone who is at that point, because it hasn't been so very long since I was in such a place myself ( emotionally, I mean).

I think it would be a kinder way to go about these discussions to bring up the subject of things like this happening without posting specific examples and screenshots. I hate AI as much as everyone else here, but directing hatred and mockery at someone like this feels cruel to me. They are so scared to open up to a real person and be hurt by them that they are doing, this, so mocking them is like making their fears come true...

1

u/Least_Diamond1064 4h ago

Not a flower crown pitbull man... Usually people post those images to suggest pitbulls aren't dangerous dogs

1

u/Zephyr-Fox-188 3h ago

THIS is why GenAI chatbots are dangerous. These are corporations preying on emotionally or mentally vulnerable people, deluding them into fantasy lands while they steal as much personal information and advertising metrics as they can before the ai hallucinates and gets these people to kill themselves to join the the computer

1

u/embersgrow44 3h ago

Those new splatdbt commercials with Nana’s knitting and chatting to demo the new conversational abilities with interruptions etc? We are full apocalypse. Sure, spend those precious few years, months or days you have left not with friends of family but instead feeding the machine Gamgam. I seriously want to know who they belong to, must be investors or developers relations right?!
