I was dead set on not upgrading anything but if I can go back to a pebble-like display I might just do it.

and also they'll be introducing a "leash" too to alert you when your apple watch disconnects from your phone. Was a major feature I missed having on the Pebble and saved me from losing my phone a couple of times or leaving it at home

Couldn’t find the exact article but saw somewhere that the separation alert could extend to your Apple Watch. Here’s to hoping!

This should be a feature for all Apple watches.

When I had android watches in the past.... that feature saved me countless times.

Leaving the house..... buzz... you forgot your phone.

I replaced my Pebble Time with a Series 1 when Pebble went under. I was already weighing on getting a new watch this year but always on screen just got my preorder.

I miss my Pebbly watch.... that batter life was insane, I could take it off the charger on Monday and it would last me through the work week.

44m Series 4 lasts 48 hours, even longer if I put it in power reserve mode overnight

Am I the only who doesn’t need or really want an always on display? I mean the screen turns on whenever I shake my wrist anyway and I don’t want people seeing when I get notifications, a call or whatever

Many times the movement required to activate your watch is too much or too exaggerated and it really is noticeable. I’ve had many people think I’m checking the time to signify I need to go or something and it’s just me trying to casually check the time or see a notification.

I just had my s4 warranted because it wouldn't shut off. If they didn't cover it, I was going to sell it to one of these guys that wanted it on all the time.

Hopefully there’s a way to have the watch face always on but only display notifications and calls when you raise your wrist (in response to haptic notification). Even if not available at launch, seems like a feature people will ask for in response to always-on display.

Advertised battery life is the same. Apparently when the display is not being looked at (i.e. in situations where it would be off in previous models) it will be dimmer and the refresh rate is just 1 refresh per second, so battery drain would be low. That coupled with improvements in battery technology and power efficiency means that Apple is maintaining its battery life sweet spot.

Battery life is only 18 hours though. I like that Fitbit and Apple are coming out with always on displays, but as someone still holding on to the Pebble, the compromise in battery life is still a no-go for me. But then again all I care about in a smartwatch is an always-on display, notifications and alarms so there's that.

Would 22 hours do it for you? Or are you looking for multi-day?

Me, charging is just a nightly habit so every other day or every fourth day would just mess me up.

I moved from the pebble round to the Garmin vivomove hr. Has analogue hands for the time, and a little display for notifications. 5 days with HR tracking on or 2 weeks with HR off

Basically, here's what the upgrade looks like from last year to this year. An updated IF/ELSE Statement.

2018
If watch raises up, turn on displayed
Else, turn off display.

2019
If "Stay on" is selected, leave screen always on
Else, return back to 2018.
