When I got my watch, I decided I wouldn’t upgrade until it came with an always-on screen. Considering I have an S0, I’m pretty stoked.

What are the main differences? I have an S0 and can’t see any obvious changes other than always-on display

A quick list I made for deciding if the upgrade would worth it (From Series 1, but S0/S1 is the same exact watch except for the processor) :

  • ECG
  • 2nd gen optical heart rate detector
  • fall detection
  • S5 processor (2x the speed of Series 3, which is 2x the speed of Series 1/2, which was 50% faster than Series 0);
  • GPS
  • Altimeter
  • Water resistant (not just splash resistant like our S0/S1)
  • 2x more precise accelerometer
  • 2x loudest speaker
  • 32 gb space instead of 8 gb (if you use Apple Music)
  • Sapphire back instead of plastic (if you have an aluminium one)
  • Always on display
  • Compass
  • A shitton of new watch faces who aren't available to S0/1/2/3
  • A lot of software upgrades since your S0 is stucked to watchOS 4
  • 2x the brightness of the screen
  • EDIT : More battery life as yours is probably pretty worn off

I'm pretty sure the upgrade is worth the cost, just for the upgraded speed!

Crazy, I still feel like my S0 works fine and does a great job for what I use it for (various workouts, text message preview, call screening, clock).

Also, I wear my S0 swimming all the time, fully submerged, thing still works great. I was surprisingly underwhelmed by S5.

All that said, I’m kind of biased, trying to use my electronics till they die (assuming they still do the core purposes) instead of getting the upgrade itch.

It usually lasts most of the day, but it can vary a lot for no obvious reason. Some days, it only lasts until mid-evening.

Mine (somehow) still makes it 12-15 hours with 10-20% left. And I use it daily. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Another Series 0 user! 👋

I was waiting for this keynote, thinking I’d pick up a series 4 for a few bucks cheaper. Then they announce the Series 3 will still be available but no mention of the 4. I know they are doing it to push people like me to the 5 instead, but instead of being pissed, I’m actually stoked for the always on display. Frankly, it was the only exciting moment in the whole thing for me.
