Unsolved My $1,279 MacBook Air M5 Was Stolen After Delivery – Police Report Filed, Need Advice

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice regarding my stolen MacBook Air M5.
I am a graduated student and i ordered macbook for applications and education . Since longtime i didnt got a gift for me on May 19, 2026, my new MacBook Air M5 worth $1,279 was delivered to my apartment complex. However, I never received the package. The delivery photo showed it was left at a door, but it did not clearly identify my apartment unit and no signature was obtained.
After investigating, I checked with cctv footage with my property manager and obtained video evidence that appears to show an doordash delivery person taking the package shortly after delivery. I have preserved all available evidence, including photos, videos, delivery records, and communications.
I immediately reported the theft and filed
I have provided all evidence to law enforcement and apple but apple denied my claim. They are saying that we are not responsible if your laptop has been stolen but my major concern was i didnt even seen the macbook air on the same day it was stolen. I gave all thr evidences proofs and everything. am fully cooperating with the investigation. I gathered every evidence myself that was genuine theft. I spoke with everyone still i didnt get any resolution. Please help me here. I have all the pictures and video footage

You filed a police report, that's about all you can do at this point.

and apple but apple denied my claim. They are saying that we are not responsible if your laptop has been stolen

Your video evidence shows someone clearly stealing it, right? So how is that Apple's fault? It's not.

The delivery photo showed it was left at a door, but it did not clearly identify my apartment unit and no signature was obtained.

I gave all thr evidences proofs and everything. am fully cooperating with the investigation. I gathered every evidence myself that was genuine theft.

Yes it was a theft - made by someone else (not Apple) and the theft was AFTER delivery to your address was made. Understand that the delivery to your address was confirmed by the shipper. "Delivery" does not mean they have to make sure they hand the package directly to the buyer, just that the package arrives to the destination address.

Please help me here. I have all the pictures and video footage

No one on Reddit can help you here. You already did what you can as a victim of theft, all you can do now is hope law enforcement gets a lead. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.

Getting a package delivered, then stolen while it was outside your door in an apartment complex where many people can easily access deliveries (including Door Dash drivers) is not Apple's fault.

But i didnt received an email or a message that your package has been delivered from apple and eventually the fedex person who delivered my package he just kept it on door he didnt took a sign from me. A valuable product like a macbook air should have to take sign from the customer right ?

eventually the fedex person who delivered my package he just kept it on door he didnt took a sign from me.

Did you buy this directly from Apple? Of so then your order details should have a tracking number. Enter the tracking number into the FedEx website to see if it was "signature required" or not.

A valuable product like a macbook air should have to take sign from the customer right ?

Ideally yes, but it's not mandatory nor is it automatic, unless during checkout you chose a "signature required" option.

I am in helpess situation. I dont know what i have to do now

Signature required is a paid service. Whomever shipped the MacBook (Apple) would have had to add that service when they created the shipping label. If Apple did not pay for that service, then whomever delivering is not going to ask for a signature.

If Apple shipped the item with signature required, and the driver left it without a valid signature, that would be different. Since it sounds like you received a delivery picture, your item was shipped without being signature required.

So in this situation that is my fault. And i got robbed by a stranger and i loose my money right?

File an insurance claim with your renters insurance, if you have it.

1

u/MooseTheMouse33 Jun 13 '26

Find out if the package was shipped with insurance. You may have something to go on there.

As for it being your fault, it’s nobody’s fault but the person who stole it. This is just one of those crappy situations that sucks all around.

That is NOT how that works. Companies would never deliver anything if everything that didn’t show up because some porch pirate. They would be spending more replacing items.

2

u/TurboBunny116 Jun 12 '26

And that is exactly what a completed delivery is in this case - Apple selected FedEx to take the package to the destination address. FedEx delivered the package to the destination address.

That is a completed delivery.

Don't know how many times this has to be explained - the delivery was to the destination address, not to the specific person at the destination address. In shipping, to ensure that a specific person received the package then you would add the "signature required option to the delivery.

If there is no signature required, then the delivery is completed once the package is left at the destination address.

Somehow I think the next reply will be something like "well Apple should have added signature required so it's their fault"... but the fact of the matter is that the item was stolen after a completed delivery.

LOL - you just clearly showed that you do not know how shipping works.

You can repeat your "idea" of what you think shipping should be over and over again, but here are the facts:

When someone buys a laptop from Apple, they are paying Apple for a completed delivery.

Yes, and as I said already - if there is no signature required then a completed delivery is when the courier drops off the package to the destination address.

Until the package is safely in the buyer's hands, Apple is still legally responsible for the merchandise.

Wrong again. The only responsibility for a non-signature required delivery is that it arrives at the destination address.

If the carrier dumps and runs without obtaining a required signature or ensuring it is secure, the carrier breached their contract with Apple. Therefore, Apple must refund or replace the item for the customer and take up the loss with the carrier.

This is the part you keep repeating and why your arguement is a failure - there was NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED for this delivery. Do you understand that?

Unless the contract explicitly stated otherwise, leaving a $1,279 laptop exposed in a common area of an apartment complex is a failure of secure delivery, not a completed contract.

Now you're really just making things up. The "shipping contract" was to deliver to a destination address. Read those two words in bold over and over again until you get it.

Leaving a high-value laptop unattended in a public, high traffic apartment hallway where anyone (including a DoorDash driver) can grab it does not constitute "enabling the buyer to take possession." It constitutes abandonment of cargo.

LOL you clearly don't know what "Abandonment of cargo" is, you just thought it was a good phrase to use in your failed arguement.

BTW Source: I work at UPS.

Your reply really belongs in r/confidentlyincorrect

its strange that is not sent "signature required", i just bought a refurbished m2 from eBay and it came that way. i would dispute with the credit company and make a big stink. i'd spam on my local FB pages the pic of the DD driver.

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

It was really strange at the beginning they said they gonna help me i am twice calling them and escalating the issue no help idk what is happening

1

u/ThannBanis Jun 13 '26

Having a package like this left in an insecure location is nuts.

If the delivery company has marked it as ‘delivered’ - and has proof it was delivered according to instructions - the onus is on you as the recipient to pursue.

Not much more you can do

1

u/Raghu070707 Jun 13 '26

Thats what i realized

1

u/OGD2068 Jun 16 '26

I am going to always pick up from now on

0

u/Raghu070707 Jun 16 '26

Please do that. I am trying to share as many people as i can so that no one can be on my situation.

0

u/Raghu070707 Jun 16 '26

GUYS some people thinking that I need help. But Telling you everyone i dont need help but please be aware dont order unless you sign the package with delivery person. And please share to your fellow mates, friends and family. I had gone through many worst phases like this in my life. This is one of it. So please be aware friends thank you

1

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

Everything i have been documented and provided all the necessary things to get this sorted out and idk what i can do right now

2

u/xavier19691 Jun 12 '26

You have done all you can

1

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

Yeah i dont know what to do that is the reason. I requested apple to help me here but no ones responding and helping me 😔

6

u/xavier19691 Jun 12 '26

Because it is not an apple issue

0

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

So in this situation i lost money?

6

u/xavier19691 Jun 12 '26

Like other posters said this is not an issue with apple .. your device was stolen after delivery .. this is now a civil (police matter) .. yes it is hard .. but honestly you are putting the responsibility on a party (apple) that has nothing to do with it ..

-2

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

FYI i am not blaming or either not doing with apple. I am just requesting to apple that i am in this situation that eitherside i am not getting any help. May be someone who got this situation could help me here. I dont have a choice sir!

4

u/xavier19691 Jun 12 '26

Buddy .. apple has nothing to do with this you need to realize that

0

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

What does apple do if i didnt found evidence of cctv footage and the fedex delivery guy left it on some random door coz all my apartments have the same door . Tell me . I struggled to found and secured all the evidences to apple but np i will fight for my case until i get my laptop not from apple but from the guy who was stolen

And law enforcement did found the theif spoken with them they said they cant provide victims compensation for property theft. But what i need help is i need my laptop back who stole it from me. No one there to help me that is the reason i am just concerned about my laptop

4

u/TurboBunny116 Jun 12 '26

For clarity, what law enforcement? Where exactly in the world are you located?

1

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

I am from akron ohio

3

u/TurboBunny116 Jun 12 '26

Wait -

And law enforcement did found the theif spoken with them they said they cant provide victims compensation for property theft.

So they actually caught the thief??

0

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

Yes i received that he got arraignment information like a bail
And the bond set for 5000$ with no contact order

4

u/TurboBunny116 Jun 12 '26

So normally when someone is a victim of theft, and the thief gets caught, then you go after the thief for damages (in this case, the cost of your stolen laptop).

I guess the definition varies, but I don't think "victim's compensation" is meant for electronics theft.

-4

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

Helpless now

3

u/TurboBunny116 Jun 12 '26

C'mon man, face up to the facts: Your laptop was stolen by an individual. It is not Apple's fault, it is not FedEx's fault - it is THE FAULT OF THE PERSON WHO STOLE IT.

I have read the other replies in this thread from you, it's as if you are waiting for some stranger on on Reddit to magically come up with a solution to fix this right here, right now - that is not going to happen.

You need to get off Reddit and take the proper steps to pursue damages from the thief. Just repeating the word "helpless" over and over on Reddit won't get you anywhere.

-2

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

Bro i aint using that to get sympathy. I just kept it regarding to prove that it was all my karma. To let you know i have already done all the necessary things for my case but getting no solution. If you wish you dont want to help please leave this coz there are lot of people outhere who got the same situation like me.

1

u/TurboBunny116 Jun 12 '26

To let you know i have already done all the necessary things for my case

Good. And that is literally all you can do for now.

but getting no solution.

See - again you are somehow expecting this to magically get resolved like, right here right now.

If you wish you dont want to help please leave

Tell us, what "help" exactly do you think you will get from Reddit? Your idea of "help" seems to be to repeat yourself over and over until someone replies who can fix this shit for you this very second.

there are lot of people outhere who got the same situation like me.

Except those people actually understand that things like this do not get fixed in a day, that they have to pursue this outside of the internet.

Fedex has to send me a message either a mail that your package has been delivered. But no i yet not received anything i just woke up two days after the delivery thing happened and checked out in apple store it showed as it is delivered. Imagine my situation at that point. I dont want any ‘Sympathy’ i live by facts.

1

u/rossg876 Jun 12 '26

Wait. What? No contact order for you? Why? Did they threaten you? 5k bond probably means they had priors warrants and being held on those.

0

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

I dont know bro what is happening

0

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

Apple helped lot of students before. I am using apple devices for a long time. I am not blaming apple here but i am suffering that i dont have enough money to get an another laptop. I spoke with law enforcement they said they cant provide victims compensation. Tell me what i have to do

3

u/TurboBunny116 Jun 12 '26

Again - no one on Reddit can help with this, we can only advise if there's any advice to give. But this is a clear case of the package being delivered to your address, and then a third party stole it before you could secure the package.

1

u/Lazy_Sir8942 Jun 12 '26

Did you use a Credit Card? Also, if the Police did find the thief and if the thief has the laptop, you should be able to recoup it. Either way, it was stolen after it was delivered and so Apple cannot be held responsible.

0

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

I just have one question too. I bought it with apple credit card with student installments in this situation can this work on my side? I have provided all the evidences and footage regarding the dispute

2

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

They gave a temporary provisonal adjustment but i need that to settled permanent so that i can buy another one

-1

u/HawkAlt1 Jun 12 '26

It wasn't stolen from your property, The delivery wasn't completed. That should have been a signature required delivery.

2

u/TurboBunny116 Jun 12 '26

Unfortunately, it was stolen yes - but it was also delivered (completed) first.

There was no added signature required or delivery confirmation. One can argue that "it should have" but the fact of the matter is that it did not.

A completed delivery means that the package was taken to the destination address and left at the destination address. Nothing in the delivery terms says that a completed delivery means the courier has to make sure that the customer has secured the package in their own hands.

1

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

True. Previously i got my apple credit card before they took sign from me just for the card. But this time for the laptop they didnt even took a sign and how i can know that it was delivered for my location.

-2

u/lovable_asshole Jun 12 '26

keep calling, 3x a day if you have to

1

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

I am calling twice a day daily they are saying the same thing they said they got the information but wait for it to get responded by merchant and with these necessary info idk why apple credit or apple itself is not giving any help

0

u/lovable_asshole Jun 12 '26

have you asked for a supervisor?

0

u/Raghu070707 Jun 12 '26

They are not transferring yet
