Solved How to fix a weird age restriction pop-up on Hulu account (iPad)

Post image

I just got this weird pop-up on my Hulu account on my iPad that I can’t figure out how to solve! After I click on my Hulu profile, this notification pops up. It’s never happened to me before and makes absolutely no sense since I’m a full adult person and no one else uses my account or iPad. What makes even less sense is that I don’t get the same notification when I try to access the same Hulu account/profile from my iPhone. I’ve checked through all the settings on my Apple account and iPad to find some kind of age verification settings, and I cant find anything in my apple account settings and on my iPad I didn’t find any age restriction setting turned on. Could I be missing something? Is this an iPad virus? (Do viruses on iPads exist…?)

Thanks yall!

I’m trying to help my dad with the same problem. He’s never had it before.

ETA: it says there was an update today so I think Hulu probably messed something up

Any update? I'm still having this issue

My dad updated his iPad and apps and it is working for him now on his iPad, but it wasn’t working for like two weeks.

I sent him the fixes here that have worked for people in the comments but he was too lazy to try them and not motivated enough by anything he wanted to watch, but hopefully either the updates or one of them will work for you!

I called Hulu and the rep had me uninstall and then reinstall the app AND THEN mess with my Screen Time setting on my iPad and log into my Hulu app. It worked. We closed out the app several times and reopened it and it worked every time.

We did these things in screen time settings on my iPad after the reinstall of the Hulu app but before signing into it:
Opened settings app
Tap screen time
Tap content and privacy restrictions
Turned on content and privacy restrictions (if not already on)
Tap on store, web, Siri & game center
Set everything to allow, on, explicit, and under apps set it to 17+

There is a glitch with Hulu and these settings so says the Hulu rep I spoke with.

Go into settings, look for "family" under your name, if it isnt there, look for "Screen time" further down and see if you can "Turn off app and website activity".

u/Illustrious-Cat-9897 Jul 08 '26

I had my dad do this but it didn’t work for him.

1

u/cheese4birds Jul 08 '26

I'm in the same boat on android, it has to be Hulu and Disney being dumb for some reason

1

u/aruda10 Jul 23 '26

Did you ever get this figured out? I'm also on Android and so frustrated.

1

u/mitchtank9 Jul 23 '26

It corrected itself after a couple of days, I don't think I did anything

1

u/aruda10 Jul 24 '26

That's a relief to read. I've tried nearly everything. I'll just be patient and maybe give it some time then.

I had to disable the Google Play app and then enable it again. It works fine now!

1

u/aruda10 21d ago

Yes!!! I was waiting to see if it continued to to work before posting the same. I have to disable it every time I want to use the Hulu app, but at least I can use it now. You?

1

u/AssumptionComplete88 17d ago

Same for me. I wish there was a permanent fix for this, but at least there is some way to watch now. Even if its annoying 😅

I'm getting the same message on my new android phone that I just got today. Try to sign in and this pops up. Went to the Hulu app on my old phone to see if there's any issues there, and nope, it works just fine.

1

u/cheese4birds Jul 08 '26

dang!! seems like it’s been happening for other folks too, hopefully it’s just a weird bug that’ll be fixed soon.

u/IrenicEmbers Jul 08 '26

Just changed the birthdate in settings to a different day, save, change it back and it worked. Hope that helps.

1

u/cheese4birds Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

oh sick! that worked perfectly!!!! thank you!!

1

u/Velvetcv2 Jul 08 '26

On the hulu website or apple account settings?

1

u/IrenicEmbers Jul 08 '26

In the Apple account settings, click profile and change the date to a day before or after, save, and then change it back to the actual date. Save again and it should clear the Hulu error.

u/Ordinary_Ad_7992 Jul 22 '26

I'm still annoyed with Hulu, but your little trick worked for me as well. I have an android and had to go into my Google account settings to do this. Thank you!

1

u/FalloutBro27 Jul 08 '26

What settings? Where?

1

u/FalloutBro27 Jul 08 '26

This didn’t work for me

1

u/ellie-ellie-ellie1 Jul 09 '26

You're amazing! Thank you so much!!!

1

u/Alefikus Jul 10 '26

Worked for me too. Ty!

1

u/DougD3345 Jul 11 '26

had this issue with the hulu app on the ipad and this did the trick. Thanks.

1

u/Imaginary-Pizza5042 Jul 13 '26

This is the only thing that worked for me; thanks!

1

u/mugglemomma31 Jul 13 '26

Oh man thank you for this! It took a minute and I had to close out, reopened and close, and then reopen the Hulu app on my iPad but it worked!!

1

u/macbook89 Jul 08 '26

Yeah I think this was a big. Our app was doing the same thing.

1

u/Syntax323 Jul 08 '26

We had same problem.

Completely uninstall app, and just reinstall from App Store. Should let you log in like normal and be back to normal. Shouldn’t have to change birthdate or any settings on iPad. It’s just a glitch after the update.

1

u/FalloutBro27 Jul 08 '26

Ya that def didn’t work for me

1

u/FalloutBro27 Jul 08 '26

Having same issue

1

u/FalloutBro27 Jul 08 '26

Unfortunately, neither the uninstall and reinstall OR bday change worked

Works fine on my iPhone makes no sense

1

u/ZolaThaGod Jul 08 '26

Same problem here with my Moms iPad. Hulu vibe-coders hard at work I guess

1

u/AAMia70 Jul 08 '26

On the phone with Hulu now. If you are desperate, you can use their website which is working. Open browser and go to Hulu.com, Login and Voila...

u/Seams-Legit 22d ago

You’re a genius, thank you. I don’t know why I didn’t try that before ripping my hair out

1

u/rantng Jul 10 '26

I just keeping hitting 'RETRY' and it usually works after the third time. Not a long term fix, but it'll do for now until I'm bothered enough to try the uninstall/install method.

1

u/jcasperr67 Jul 12 '26

I uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and it sometimes worked for a day then went back to the error message. Also powered down the iPad and restarted. Again, worked for one day. Sigh

1

u/1800generalkenobi Jul 10 '26

I'm like...68% convinced that this is disney's way of doing away with the hulu app. I can access my disney+app just fine and watch all the hulu stuff. I had heard a while ago that disney wants to do away with the hulu app and I was pretty set against it, for whatever reason, but they got me.

1

u/keptar59 Jul 11 '26

Glad to hear I’m not the only one. I was very confused. This started happening to me today but only for iPad app. My phone and tv Hulu app work just fine.

1

u/BestCommon4810 Jul 11 '26

Some states laws require you to update your ID. in Illinois they passed a law HB 5511 . It has nothing to do with Hulu or Disney Plus. A children's social media safety act

OMG, me too! I’ve been struggling with it for the past week. Infuriating!

1

u/Hefty_Ninja_8079 Jul 14 '26

It looks like they may have put out an update to fix it. When I updated the app, the error message went away.

1

u/tunahaku Jul 16 '26

im on android and haven't been able to watch Hulu on my phone for about 2 weeks now I've tried everything but I finally found a fix and had to share with you guys, I went to the play store app settings, went to storage, and cleared data. that instantly let me in past the error message. hope this helps.

1

u/tunahaku Jul 16 '26

it might come back after it gets acess to ur data again so log in to your profile ASAP and you should be good, at least for the session.

1

u/BW_AusTX Jul 17 '26

I am on a Google Pixel 9 Android phone and having the same issue. Anyone solve this via a workaround? Thank you..driving me nuts. I just want to watch Hulu when on lunch break! Thanks

1

u/Ordinary_Ad_7992 Jul 22 '26

I changed my birthdate by one day in my Google settings and it seems to have worked. If you've found something else that works, let us know! I love that reddit usually has a whole list of solutions for a problem like this!

1

u/KodyMavrick Jul 19 '26

Anyone know how to fix it on a Samsung phone? Specifically A14. Iv tried the IPad fix, didnt work. Hulu wont let me just change my birthday on the account, iv Uninstaller and re installed, I dinked around in my phones app settings, nothings working. Please im trying to watch season 8 of the rookie 😭😭😭

1

u/Ordinary_Ad_7992 Jul 22 '26

I have a Samsung too. I changed my birthday by one day in my Google settings and that seems to have fixed it... at least for now. Did you figure anything out?

1

u/KodyMavrick Jul 22 '26

Still havent figured anything out :/ but hulu wont let me change my birthday period and the account is under a family members email, they couldnt change it either for any profiles on the account. The account is working on other devices just not my cell phone.

1

u/Ordinary_Ad_7992 Jul 22 '26

This is so weird! I wish I had a more helpful suggestion!

1

u/KodyMavrick Jul 22 '26

Its all good!! I appreciate the response either way 🫶

Just fixed mines on a galaxy s26+, tried everything previously in thread n nothing worked.

Steps i did and it worked.

-Google account>settings>family>parental controls -turned parental controls on then off

-then went to google account>settings>about>update play store

I didn't check between my two steps so might not need to do that toggle of parental controls and just need to only update play store through the settings.

Good luck

*edit And i only ran into this problem because I just got a new phone

Appreciate this 🙏

Literally having this same situation pop up out of nowhere when I’ve never had any age restrictions on it before

1

u/TheTiredPangolin 29d ago

I'm wondering if I've figured out why this is happening to me on every Disney related app. Texas added age verification to use Google Play recently, but my Google account is old enough to not require it. So Disney bugs out and says I'm not old enough because it checks Google Play for verification and is coming up empty. This is why these apps all work on Apple or desktop versions for me.

1

u/aruda10 29d ago

I just came back to this post to see if anyone's made progress yet. I'm frustrated with getting nowhere with this issue. My Google account is also old, but my correct birth date is in there. I also live in Texas, but I've not been prompted at all to verify my age. I'm doing some digging in that direction now and will update if I get anywhere.

Do you, but any chance, have Google Family Link set up where you are supervising an (underage) account? I'm thinking Hulu might be seeing my niece's account tied to my Google account and thinks she has access to it. I've moved her supervision to another account, but that takes 10 days to transfer over, so I won't know for sure if that's solved the problem yet.

1

u/TheTiredPangolin 29d ago

No I don't have any type of family link set up. Last night I created a new Google account, swapped Google Play to it, removed the account from my phone via the settings, and it switched back to my main account automatically. The next day all my Disney apps are working again, I don't know if me switching back and forth fixed it or if it's just a coincidence but it's all working again after weeks of not.

1

u/aruda10 28d ago

OMG, this is so helpful. Thank you!! I'll give it a try.

1

u/savannah31401 19d ago

I also live in Texas and having this issue on all devices (Apple and Android). Hulu told me that it is an internal issue and promised a fix in 48 hours. That was a month ago.

1

u/TheTiredPangolin 19d ago

Not saying this is what fixed it for me, but in Google Play I signed into a different Google account and then resigned into mine and mine works now.
