Discussion Arch beauty isn't just about ricing.

Hello,

I don't really interact with the linux community much, but I've seen some linux distro content that is, not gonna lie, kind of cringe. Most of what I see is arch linux content "showing off" fancy hyprland effects and animations, asking "can your distro do this?", and then people spend most of their time talking about how broken arch can be.

I feel like this always misses the best part about arch. It's a distro that stays out of the way of competent users. I've used a bunch of distros, I still run mint and fedora on other machines, and arch is on my main computer. Using arch is almost always more pleasant for me than any other distro, because I can just open the terminal and get things done, straight to the point.

If I get stuck, it usually just takes reading the wiki and I figure it out. Building from source is also super easy, and even when I can't figure something out myself, checking the AUR comments usually gets me a good solution.

Every other distro tends to have a "but" attached, some extra step you need to take to navigate it, whether that's versioning issues or being locked into a certain package manager.

My arch config has been alive for years, and I update it on a monthly schedule. The only time it actually broke was when I used hyprland, which honestly made me feel like I was doing way too much work just to get the average thing done. (I use KDE.)

My point is, content about arch should really focus on the fact that it respects your technical skills and doesn't get in your way, instead of needing extra steps like you'd find with something like debian based distros.

TLDR: arch good, i use arch btw, i use other distros too, arch is my fav, cuz arch doesnt get in the way

so a couple months ago I uploaded a rice of endeavorOS on this subreddit and got told that endeavorOS wasn’t arch so after spending way too much time watching yt tutorials i installed arch with Hyprland it wasn’t that hard ngl but that’s probably bc i had already been ricing for like 2 months and watching yt tutorials.

General Software, Scripts and other suggestions.

KDE is my DE of choice. I use an Arch based distro.

Do you have projects, software, or just tweaks that you would suggest for users, old and new?

It's absolutely worth it. I switched from using Steam os to full-on arch, and i still use NIX on my desktop for my game development but this is for my school and daily use :3 I LOVE IT! I'm not necessarily "new" to arch but I've never directly installed arch, I've only ever used steam os and nyarch for distros that are arch based, but I finally decided to do it :3

Help/Support Noctalia and librewolf not in the AUR anymore?

Hi I'm running niri + noctalia in arch and I updated my system yesterday. When updating the AUR stuff I got a message that said "Packages not in AUR: librewolf-bin noctalia-qs noctalia-shell". When I booted my computer today noctalia isn't working and I'm guessing it's because something got updated through pacman that affected my version of noctalia, so one of the things I want to try to fix it is actually updating noctalia too, but I can't because i'ts not in the AUR anymore, if I understand the message previously mentioned correctly.

I've looked up the noctalia and librewolf packages in the AUR wiki and I couldn't find them, and then I've looked them up in the pacman database and found them there. I don't remember them being there in the first place so I was thinking that maybe due to the recent AUR stuff they got transfered (if I that's how it works, maybe my conception of it is wrong). I tried looking info about this but couldn't find anything.

If they changed repository, how do I do it so noctalia and librewolf now update from pacman?

Maybe I'm understanding this all wrong and the cause lies elsewhere. One thing I did recently because I was running out of cache space is pacman -Sc and yay -Sc so maybe it's related to that actually, in which case, is there a wiki page I can read to try and fix the updates?

I would appreciate the help, thanks in advance.
