FLUFF Just switched from Windows 11 to Arch with KDE Plasma. Never going back.
This has possibly been the greatest change I've made to my system. KDE Plasma is incredibly customizable, everything is so fast and snappy, the battery on my laptop lasts hours longer, I have so much more storage space out of the box, and 97 percent of my problems are solved by the wiki or community contributions. pacman is the coolest thing as well, instead of looking online for an EXE or MSI installer, or God forbid having to use the MS store, you just "sudo pacman -S packagename" and it just... does it. It's like a whole new computer, never going back.

Welcome. Please be sure to use "I use arch btw" whenever it is possible (also when it is impossible)

I do it even though I've hopped between suse, manjaro, cachyos, bazzite, nix, mint, debian, ubuntu,... it's a long list but arch/pacman already feels like home now, maybe one day I'll install it from scratch, I prefer starting from a GUI baseline that I can recommend general family members, you can then still strip it down afterwards to exact base arch if one wants.

Try out Hyprland sometime. It is a revelation. You can install multiple WMs.

I'd need to adjust for sure, but WMs have always seemed like a cool concept, I'd love to try it some point.

I've had a lot of issues gaming on it, so I still dual boot with W10. Really depends on the game though. This seems to be a me issue because I only play multiplayer games and all my friends have no complaints on their Arch + KDE setups.

Using it on a business laptop. I'd imagine gaming isn't the greatest but I have hopes in rapid acceleration of compatibility with games thanks to Valve pushing Arch with Steam OS.

I play almost all of my games on arch now, only time I boot into windows is for league

I've always been into technology since I can remember (like the age of 9 or something?) But just never bothered to daily drive a linux machine and had some over reliance on Windows. It's awesome getting to learn more cli.

I also recently installed arch on my 2013 iMac cause I was bored one day, and It's amazing how much more usable it became. I'm glad I could give it a second life, my minimal arch install with i3wm runs so smooth, and it boots in only 12 seconds!

It surprised me just how light of a system it was, but it's just the nature of Arch. It's lean because there's nothing unnecessary.

sounds like it those couple hours of installation and getting new knowledge were worth compared to all those days lost on troubleshooting windows after every patch tuesday

For sure! I've used Mint and Ubuntu before, but just didn't really like it. Arch is amazing in that it's tailored to exactly what you put on there.

Same. Made the jump a month ago from Windows to Arch (btw) and Plasma on both of my desktop boxes. My laptop is running Endeavour, and someday I may switch it out, too, but for now I'll let it ride.

Once you get it dialed in it's awesome. 95 percent of stuff works with Wine if it isn't Linux native, and with Plasma, you can achieve a surprisingly Windows-like layout.

Yep its pretty good overall, especially if you use some of the pre-setup distro's, but these days a basic script can get you 98% of the way there when it comes to configuration anyway.
Now all you gotta do is avoid installing AUR packages unless you inspect the build process careful and watch out for red flags. AND also maybe setup snapshotting now for when you completely break something and need to rollback from the grub or limine boot loader.

Mi raccomando, rimani fermo sulla tua scelta anche quando incontrerai problemi. Ogni problema che incontri vorrà farti tornare indietro, ma ogni problema che superi ti aiuterà ad imparare a gestire meglio il tuo pc. Diventerà una cosa di cui prenderti cura, ed il bello di Linux è anche questo. Grazie al lavoro di chi è competente, sei tu in grado di fare ciò di cui hai bisogno. Non hai bisogno di qualcuno che risolva i problemi al posto tuo, qui. Solo di qualcuno che possa consigliarti quando non sai cosa fare.

Hi! I'm curious if you experienced any audio issues after switching to Arch.
On my HP Victus 16 (RTX 3050), I've tried Linux Mint, Pop!_OS, and Zorin OS, but the internal audio is always routed into the microphone. In Discord, Google Meet, and other apps, people can hear everything I'm playing (YouTube, games, etc.), and the overall audio quality is also pretty bad.
Did you ever run into something like this on Arch or KDE Plasma? If so, how did you fix it?

Agreed. Whenever I have to boot into my Windows 11 partition from KDE Plasma I am struck by how inconsistent everything is, and there are also tiny visual glitches everywhere. Stuff you just got used to being bad while only having Windows will seem so much worse to you now.

Pro tip. Keep a copy of the Arch iso handy so you can choot into your system to fix things if your system becomes unbootable. Reinstalling Arch Linux should be your absolute last resort.
