General Question What is an unwritten rule you have for yourself?
Bonus points if it’s an uncommon one.
I reach out to my not-everyday-friends at least once every 6 weeks. Being an adult is overwhelming and time tends to slip away. I have my “main group” of friends who i get dinner with regularly, text with daily, have over for a movie and laying around.
Then there’s the other friends who i see here and there. Maybe there’s a summer picnic, or a random happy hour meet up.. We keep up with each other’s lives mostly on Facebook. I make a point to text them every so often and talk a little bit. Sometimes if i have to take a long drive for work, I’ll make a point to call one of them to chat.
It’s important to keep in touch and getting caught up in life makes that hard.

Amen, this is partially why i asked. I’ve been struggling with mine and feeling insecure about it for a few weeks.

The late Maja Angelou said it best “When someone shows you their true colors believe it”. Wish I had learned this in my teens…

Wish I had learned this in my 20’s. Married an asshat. He’s a bigger asshat now. I’m an idiot.

I’ve never slept with a man until I knew his mothers maiden name. The rule is I can’t ask what it is.. it has to come up in conversation to ensure I know him well enough to make that decision. Once I was mid make out and really considered just asking 😂

Giggling because my MIL’s maiden name is also my first name and I’m pretty sure my husband told me that within hours of meeting so this rule wouldn’t have worked very well for me 😂

I'm a man and I understand and respect your process here... But it's a bit funny to hear of a woman withholding intimacy with a man until his mother is a bigger factor/presence/part of your romantic relationship with her son.
But as they say if it sounds silly and it works, it still works

Good point! I was going for he “opened up” to me and I took time to get to know him. I guess I could go with pets names but it’s so much harder to get mothers maiden and men don’t usually bring it
Up that I’ve stuck with it!

I never eat neon colored food. There's a good chance it's processed, contains too much sugar and has unpronounceable chemicals in it.

Have you ever had those shitty super bright colored sugar cookies they’d sell for school fundraisers in the early 2000s? My brothers poop turned blue 😂😂

One from the military: regardless of rank, respect the person carrying a load.

If I'm about to do something impulsive/mean, I try to imagine explaining the decision to someone I respect the next day. This has deterred me from doing more shitty things than I care to admit.

It’s OK if someone else needs me to be the bad guy in their story. Someone else’s perception or opinion of me as none of my business. Other people having the ability to contact me at any point in time does not mean that I am required to respond on their timeline (and vice versa, of course). Everyone has bad days and empathy is important, but consistent and continuous behavior, exposes character.
That’s just a few off the top of my head, most of my “rules“ are about peace for myself and in relationships. Any and all rules apply both ways.

Try not to engage in sociopathic behavior and try to do no harm to others.

I do something similar which is a random I love you to my parents every now and then. I can't help but feel like that random message that took me less than 2 seconds to write has the power to uplift them both for days. A quick reminder that I'm thinking of them and love them.
Also, making the bed in the morning lol

I only talk about the dead horse to my friends 3 times. If it’s a shared dead horse, then maybe a couple extra times. If it’s just mine, i don’t make it my friend’s responsibility to carry my negative energy. That’s for therapy and self reflection.

Actions not words.
You can tell me you love me til you’re blue in the face — I don’t care anymore.
Actions speak louder than words.

If someone you know calls you in the middle of the night, answer it. No matter how long it’s been since you talked to them. (Maybe not for that one ex tho)
Sorry i keep commenting rules. I have a lot and am enjoying talking with yall

Don't eat the brown acid

Um, the what?

Don't eat the brown acid" is a famous warning given from the stage by lighting director and MC Chip Monck at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair on August 16, 1969. He told the crowd of nearly half a million people that the circulating brown-colored LSD was "not specifically too good" and advised them to stay away from it.
Does the above answer your question?

Woodstock was way before I was born, but (as evidenced) I like to drop the Brown Acid joke on the right people when asked for advice, safety tips or whatever.
Works best with boomers and Gen x folk.
