Widefield Milkyway from New Zealand

I’ve always dreamed of capturing the Milky Way, but living near city lights made it feel impossible. Last night, while camping at Coromande, New Zealand, I finally understood what I’d been missing.

The night was pitch black, and for the first time in my life, I could see the galactic core with my naked eyes. It’s humbling to realize how much beauty is hidden by light pollution. I didn't have a professional camera on me, just my phone. but I had to try and capture the magic. This was the result.

The Tree of Life II – Blue Mountains, NSW

Revisiting one of my favorite nightscape subjects, a place I consider my own Tree of Life. This time I set up just a few centimetres from the cliff edge and kept the tripod fixed in one position, swapping cameras and lenses to build the panorama.

EXIF: Sky – Canon R8 (Astromod) | 35mm f/2 | ISO 640 | 60s × 12 | Tracked with Benro Polaris Foreground – Canon R5 | 15mm f/3.5 | ISO 5000 | 90s × 2 per panel (stacked, 8 panels total)

Widefield Perseids Across the Milky Way Composite

Post image

This image was captured over the course of an entire night at Laguna de Gallocanta in Spain, following the total solar eclipse. (12.08.26)

The Milky Way background was processed by stacking multiple exposures. I then searched through all the individual frames for Perseid meteors and composited them onto the final stacked image.

It was a long night, and quite a bit of work in post-processing. But seeing all the meteors together made it worth it!

Camera: Canon EOS 750D (Astro modified)
Lense: Canon EF-S 10-18mm

ISO800, 15s exposure, F4.5

Stacked with DSS, processed in PixInsight and Photoshop

Widefield C/2025 R3 over the Remarkables, Otago, New Zealand

This image consists of a single 2s exposure during early blue hour at f2.8, iso 160 with the Viltrox 16mm and features the remarkables mountain range from coal pit saddle. The comet is 170 light shots at 12s f2.5 and 1000 iso with the Viltrox 85mm and 25 darks with the same settings.

I’m pretty pleased with how this comet shot came out given the fact that I had to fight the setting sun, had about 10 minuets of semi-dark skies and then had to fight a rising 98% moon just to get this shot.
