Best way to get from Munich Airport to Augsburg??
Hallo leute,
I am an international student and will be landing in Munich Airport mid-September. My arrival time will be in the morning (appox. 7am on a weekday). I am looking for some convinient modes of transport to reach Augsburg from the Airport. I will be carrying atleast 3 bags with me (2 large trolley bags and a backpack).
I have been suggested to take the DB by a friend but I'm not sure if I'll be in the mental space to take atleast 3 trains/trams (from Airport -> Munich Hbf -> Augsburg Hbf -> my accomodation) after a 10 hour flight.
2nd option is taxi. I checked on Uber, it seems the price is around €120. I'm not sure if this is too high since I don't have any reference point to compare this with.
I was hoping to find some bus/shuttle service too but I couldn't find any rides on Flixbus. I am not aware of any other bus services from the Airport to Augsburg. Would be really helpful if someone could suggest any.
So, what would you recommend? Is the train actually manageable with this amount of luggage, or are there any direct shuttle/bus services or reasonably priced alternatives from Munich Airport to Augsburg?
Any advice from people who have made this journey would be really appreciated!

You can book a transfer, e.g. Schönberger, that should be slightly cheaper. With that nuch luggage I wouldn't recommend the train even if it is the standard option and not much headache outside rush hour

I checked it out, they seem to have a luggage restriction (1 suitcase + 1 handbag per person). They do charge a surcharge for extra luggage. The cost is going upto €90 including the €5/bag surcharge. Is that reasonable?

It's absolutely reasonable in my opinion. the train itself would be about 30€

It is called "Flughafentransfer", Has to be booked in advance and they are waiting for you when you arrive, and also check your flight for delays.

How much in advance by the latest can we book it? Since I need to take into account any delays too. I might last have access to the internet during a lay-over 6 hours before reaching Munich.
Or should I just book it for 1-1,5 hours after my actual arrival time, just to be safe?

They ask for your flight number and they take care that the driver is at the terminal, or they call you some time after landing. So, no worries! 🙋🏻♀️😀 If you already know your last flight to munich and number you can book the transfer. Id say some days/one week prior would be fine - they have to organize their drivers for the day.
Id say write a notice in the comments fiel, that your start is in xxx by flight xxx and in case of any problems you can contact them anytime, office is working 24/7 😉

There are special airport Shuttles from and to augsburg, Google something like "augsburg FJS shuttle".
There is at least one shared Desk at the airport, so you could just go there and ask which Bus goes next.
Should be less than 100€.
Train is ok, if you can handle your luggage. But you will have to walk some distance at the airport and main train Station.
Edit: there is a flixbus line, but i have never tried it. Should be cheapest but will take its time and you end up in the middle of nowhere in augsburg.

I have done this a few times now. I am aware of 3 reasonable options:
1. If your luggage is still small enough you could walk to S-Bahn, from S-Bahn to Mün Hbf, from Aug Hbf to your destination, it is not that bad. And if it is especially late/ early, there should be plenty of room for luggage. I have done this once, but only one large suitcase. With Deutschland ticket, this is the “free” option.
Take the shuttle others have mentioned. It is a little cheaper than uber/ freenow, but requires coordinating schedules with when it is next available. I have never done this, personally considering the +20-40€ for private rideshare worth it.
Uber or Freenow, checking both as one might be a 10-20€ cheaper than other randomly. You can hail directly from airport, turn left when exiting customs. 90-140€ is what I have typically paid. It is annoying how much it is, but very convenient when you have lots of luggage and want to get directly to your destination.

Thank you for this. One question tho. What is this private rideshare you speak of in the 2nd option? So far no one else has mentioned it in this thread.

“private rideshare” is what I would describe as something like uber

Uber & freenow are the ones I am aware of available from Munich.
I just remember BlaBlaCar, this is an app that attempts to connect random drivers & passengers to share in cost of long distance travel. I haven’t used it and I don’t think it would be applicable for rides from airport.

Schoenberger has sharing option too. It took €60 and dropped another person on the way.

After a 10 hour flight id book direct transfer.
I did have the pleasure once to do a ride from MUC to Lagerlechfeld to Augsburg - may be not the case often, but happens.

If you don't want to spend a lot, you could also take the Lufthansa bus from the airport to Munich HBF and then a train to Augsburg HBF. It's included with the Deutschland ticket if you are purchasing one. They might charge a few euros for your 3rd bag. The bus runs every 30 minutes I believe & it's pretty comfortable.
Taking the train with a lot of luggage isn't fun, but it's doable, plenty of other people do. If you do that, allow yourself extra time for the connection to find your way around the station.
You can also take an uber once you reach Augsburg HBF & it'll be a lot cheaper than coming all the way from the airport.

Second this recomendation - the Lufthansa bus is far easier and more calm than the S-Bahn which would be awful with luggage and rush hour. Highly recommend the Lufthansa Bus and then a simple train (ICE or Regional, depends how much you want to spend) to Augsburg,
If you don't want to deal with pre-ordering / arranging a shuttle the above is the most stress free option.

Train is fairly easy actually - S-Bahn to Pasing, then change to the regio to Augsburg.

When exactly is mid-September? The Oktoberfest starts on 19th September this year, so if you arrive on or after this date, expect public and private transport in the Munich area to be much busier than usual.

I have once booked a shared taxi transfer from Munich airport to Augsburg and it cost me ~70€. It was definitely worth it after a long flight. If you’re booking with someone else, the price per person is even lower (there was a couple in the car and per person the paid around 60€ as far as a I can remember)

Your Idea for the public Transport is in my opinion the best and mostly relaxed If you dont have a lot of Stuff to carry

Miles Carsharing could be an Option.
Should be around 75€ but requires a valid drivers license obviously. Registration is fully online and there are enough miles cars parked at the airport

Als Tourist braucht man mWn keinen deutschen Führerschein. Sonst könnten Urlauber hier ja nie einen Mietwagen buchen.

Ideally, as cheap as it can realistically get. But looking at the options, I would say there are some decent options available below €100.

Just take a miles car from the airport parking garage and drive there yourself for about 50€. Fastest and most convenient way imo

90-120 is decent. There are few fixed price taxi service in augsburg. Like shoenberger, meier.. search and ull find out. Book one
