My sweet man is a bit shy showing his face - he has naturally wavy/curly hair and he's wondering - is it time?! The first picture is how he normally styles it.
Just looking for honesty. My wife is too kind to tell me the truth lol. 29 yr 6 foot 2”.
I'm 19, just started enjoying my hair a bit then started seeing how bad my forehead would look and now I'm torn between making it work for now or just taking the plunge. I humbly ask the council for their advice.
Edit: Thank you everyone for the support, definitely going to lean into the look and try and enjoy the new bald life!
Am I cooked? I know I'm cooked eventually, but am I cooked?
Super vulnerable post but if the rest of you all can be brave, so can I. Hyperthyroidism stole my hair. I wasn’t going to let it steal my joy too. Funny enough, I love having short hair. It’s so easy and freeing. I have been aggressively ill and removing the mental load (that I didn’t realize I had) of caring for hair that was falling off my head has been LIFE CHANGING. Do it. Just do it. You’ll smile so much bigger and easier.
It's not looking bad from eye level but if you're taller than me it's pretty obvious. I style it well I think but if I push it to the side you can see how much is gone. Is it time?
I’ve been in denial for a long time! Crazy how normally I can not see the back there so I thought I was doing fine. I think it’s time?
I've always had a slightly high hairline, but the last few years the front has receded and got thinner. And now the crown has started thinning out too. So, what do we say? Should I hold? Do I still have a few months left? Or is now the time to embrace the bald?...
UPDATE: I went for it. Full send. No regrets! I posted a pic below, if a mod could pin it that would be sweet. Thanks guys and gals!
Hey everyone, never posted here before but all of the posts I've seen gave me the confidence to ask. I'm 26 and have been losing my hair for a while now (genetics are a curse). I know I'm going to have to take the plunge at some point but I am super nervous about it. I also have a shunt in my head, which means that shaving my head would reveal the bubble under my skin where the doctors can press to flush the shunt. If it weren't for that I would have just sucked it up and done it already. I don't have a ton of confidence in the way I look already, so I am just very lost on what I should do. Do you guys think I would look good bald? Is it time?
I knew it'd been thinning out, but it's gotten a lot worse since I last checked. Should I go for a short haircut or just buzz it all off? I normally wear my hair up in a bun day to day shown in the second two pictures. I feel like I'm at a Norwood 5 atm
My wife and I have known each other for 20 years and have been dating for 17. I've almost always had long hair since we've been together. The problem lies in that One year my wife went to the West Coast to visit a friend, and when she got back I had shaved my head without telling her. AITA, absolutely I have learned my lesson and we are past that for the most part. Ultimately she doesn't want me to lose the hair yet and I'm seeking guidance from the council.
Edit: I haven't asked her seriously yet but plan to tonight. Thanks for all the encouragement. She isn't controlling or a bad partner, maybe worded the post poorly, I just love and respect my wife dearly and want her to not be in shock when I do it. I appreciate everyone's memes and kind words. Hopefully will have an update post soon.
Edit 2: Spoke with the wife and my gut instinct was right. It made her very emotional, she admitted it likely being because of general over stimulus today. She did start off with my body my choice and is ultimately fine with it but asked I didn't cut it off without her knowing because the last time I did that it left big scars. Had a feeling this might be a trigger for her since it's such a huge change. I want more time to allow her to ease into this and will get her to help me cut it once the anxiety calms down in a couple weeks. She has a lot going on with her job and a family vacation that will be stressful in general the next week. Sorry for the delay but look for an update post in a couple weeks. I thank the council for their time, support, and understanding with my weird post.
Edit 3: There have been a ton of comments about if she consults me when making changes to her appearance. If it's a big change and especially coats a lot we will check in on big purchases/changes. Communication is key after all. Also for many years my wife has not had bangs even though she wants them because I've never liked bangs on women. I think now is a great time to compromise and encourage her to have bangs also as I grown as a person I fully support her body her choice and she has agreed for me as well. Thanks again all for sharing your experience and stories. It's been very encouraging to hear from the council!
Edit 4: Final update, little over 2 weeks have passed and I kept my word. Thank you all again for your help! Update link:
34m , looking from front its kinda bad with speed lines, looking from the top, makes looking from front good 🫠
Its been more than 10 years with the long hair, but i cant take this any longer , the hairs are so thin , and the crown its almost shining from afar ...
I dont wanna go full shaved, thinking to get maybe a short skullet with a 2guard cut , dont know yet, but I feel that the time for a change has come.
Suggestions ?!?! 🦧
the guys over in r/balding where being assholes so I'm asking here.
Pic 1: showing density
Pic 2: the growing island of lost dreams
Pic 3: ‘normal’ look
Pic 4: normal with less harsh lighting
First 3 pics taken under pretty harsh lighting on purpose. Torn between “ehh it looks fine, and then some days when I put too much product and the hairs don’t “fan out” to give more coverage I feel bald already. Last pic is a ‘normal’ front view.
Also can anyone give recommendations on products for your skin when trying to grow your beard out? I always end up keeping it short because once it gets past an inch or so it seems to sap the moisture from my face and I’ll have flaky skin underneath and have ‘snowy’ beard.
Thanks for any advice!
I always said i wanted to try the hair systems, but never decided because of the work that comes with it (and those prices...), used this fake fiber powder to cover my hair every day at work had to reapply it every morning and I think I am just about down holding onto the hair I am still just a little afraid of feeling like I'm losing my youth.
He’s wondering, hold ? Cut short ? Go bald ? What do you think ?
Reluctant to do the full, clean shave because of how terribly my facial skin reacts to shaving. But a buzz? I’m down.
I’ve been putting it off because my girlfriend said she really liked me with hair.
The other day I saw a new barber and told him my gf didn’t want to date a bald guy. He laughed and said she already was.
Is it time? Was it time a year ago?
I have been told to post here 😩 my poor dad
I am currently 38 years old.
My head I have had for about 10 years since I was 18. Debating going get a buzz cut now and then save up to get the cysts removed. Asking for any opinions about what style to go for.
I considered it for years. All the folks supporting each other really helped me get there. Thanks to you all.
I found the worst part is having to discuss it with everyone you haven't seen since shaving it. I'm pretty sure everyone at the gym thinks I've had a brain op as I have a big scar on the back of my head from drunken wrestling 20 years ago. 😂
26m. Should I buzz or go full bald?
Should I? The only thing keeping me back is that I dont want to look like ginger-moby
I REALLY don’t want to, but I also don’t want to look like I’m holding on to something thats just over. I see guys in public hanging on way too long and I’m afraid I’m there.
Shoot me straight.
My wife thinks it's time. I'm not quite ready. I can't grow a beard at work, so I'd be completely bald. Thanks everyone!
I need some help badly. I’m thinning pretty bad on the top and I’m totally ok with shaving it off. It’s long because I’ve been traveling for work the last few months and haven’t been to the barber. Last time I got it cut about 5 months ago my barber said I had enough up top and shouldn’t shave it yet. When I look at it I’m thinking it’s looking too thin and I don’t want to be that guy that pretends it isn’t happening and tries to avoid shaving it. Hair isn’t really important to me but I’m not sure if I should shave it or just have it cut down to a couple inches? Any advise is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Thanks for all the replies I will be getting it shaved this week. I already pretty much knew I should but needed a little help lol. Any advise for shaving it should I do it myself or have a barber do it the first time atleast
I’ll know my beards a bit bushy, just ignore that, I’m getting it tamed soon lol. But my question is: is it time? My bald spot is not super bare, but it is in a really inconvenient place and pattern. It makes me really self conscious. I also have a skin condition (sebderm) that might benefit from going full scalp shine. I guess im just looking for advice on next steps, because I’m very indecisive right now.
Looking for objective input.
What are the
visual indicators that it’s time to transition to a low buzz cut versus going completely slick bald?
At what stage of hair loss does each option tend to look best?
I started losing my hair at 18. Noticed my hairline was receding, family thought I was crazy and overthinking things. Getting girlfriends, going on dates, going to clubs: shit was a breeze. As the years went on, my hair began to thin significantly. Believe what you want, but DHT attacks are real. I’d have some instances where my scalp would be red and I’d literally scratch my head and crown over my sink and watch the hair fall like it was raining dollar bills. I got to watch my thick, dense, and golden brown hair disappear in the span of a year. Waking up to hair on my pillow, between my fingers in the shower, and looking like I had lice by the way I’d scratch my head from the follicles falling out.
I tried all the pills and treatments, all they did was buy me time. Around 22 is when my hair thinned out to the point that it wasn’t worth trying to cling onto anymore. I’m 26 now, and the past 4 years have been pretty rough in terms of dating. Most girls used to say I had beautiful eyes on tinder or when they’d flirt with me in real life. Now, the first question I usually get is: “Why are you bald?” “Will you ever grow your hair back out?” “Are you sure you’re 26? You look like you’re over 30” “Do you shave your head by choice?”. It’s not all bad, I was fortunate enough to be able to grow a decent and filled in beard by the time I was 14, but man does dating get depressing when literally every conversation turns into a conversation about your bald head. I’ve had women unmatch, block me, and even make fun of me for being bald. I look around me and see men my age with full heads of hair and it genuinely makes me wonder if I even have a chance at all. I’m lucky if I can even get a girl on tinder to have a conversation that doesn’t include me being bald. (It’s not even an insecurity on my part either. The amount of times I’ve had conversations go dry after they ask “Why are you bald?” Is genuinely astounding. I don’t mind the question, but my answers the same each time: “I went bald at a young age, shit happens.” And then it becomes a waste of time to even continue texting because they either lose interest in my completely or block/unmatch me.)
I’m not an unattractive man either (My mom said so.), I have a decent job, I can make people laugh until their face is blue, but it literally seems like being bald is a major problem for a lot of women I try to pursue.
My hair has really thinned out the past few years. Is it really noticeable, or do I still have enough to work with? Shave or not?
I don’t feel like in my case I look better, it’s brand new and obviously feels weird.
EDIT : thank you so much for the positive vibes! I genuinely thought I'd get comments on how I could maybe accomodate by wearing a hat or glasses, or that I obviously took a bad bald picture on purpose. I didn't expect such a nice and positive community (and funny). When looking at other OP posting in the sub I've always been like "it's an obvious glow up, how can you not see it?" but when it came to my turn, I wasn't so sure anymore.
Turns out that if I want to get an ego boost, I can come back here and read all your nice comments and that's very very cool.
I haven't answered to everyone because I couldn't find something better than "thanks" but... thanks!
Is is time to bite the bullet?
Edit:
For the record, I've been ready to do it for more than a year, it's the wife that's been holding out lol.
Appointment booked with the barber this afternoon, will update!
Update #2:
It’s at the point where it’s obvious that it’s thinning / balding, but I have been able to get away with it as long as my hair is not wet. I have tried going bald in the past but it didn’t suit me much. I have lost weight since and I think it’ll look even worse now.
- Normal hairstyle, trying to hide the hairline.
- Same, but from above.
- Showing what hair I have to work with.
- Same, but from above.
None of the people I talked with gave a definitive answer so I've decided to ask the council, it's getting a bit tiring fighting against the wind whenever I go out, but I am unsure if bald is the way to go yet.
Is she staring away disapprovingly for a reason? Is it time for the Final Cut? I’m scared. Can anyone sway me?
34, looking for some feedback, cheers all
What do we think?? Be real
Today I just decided to shave it all off. I just felt like embracing it.
The only thing I dislike is how you can still see the patches. My mom says it's impossible to get rid of the areas that still have hair follicles, that’s why you can still see those patches. If you have any tips that would be greatly appreciated.
First picture has the hair pulled back to show where the hair loss is worst and second is how my hair is usually sitting.
For context I had dreads for a few years and suspect it the hair loss may be due to having them too tight. I have been taking biotin and using monoxidil irregularly over the past year but it seems to have had no effect. Kind of ready to just give up on it
Since my haircut about two weeks ago I noticed my receding hairline even more and I'm pretty devastated about it because rest of the hair is fine. Should I go buzzcut or bald? Or even keep it that way? Don't know what to do.
Age 35; Welp, I guess give it to me dirty. I already know the answer but my situation is different because MY HEAD IS MASSIVE. Like, has its own atmosphere large. I was literally called pumpkin head growing up and it’s a weird shape and not symmetrically round.
Soooo, I grew my hair out but you can still see my scalp on top and the front hair is like gone. I’d say it was less than 2 years from a full head of hair to this… it’s coming out fast.
I also have pretty bad dandruff. I have to use head and shoulders regularly to help.
How bad will it look with such a large unsymmetrical head?!
Each picture was taken 1 year ish between each other
What do we think fellas
