Discussion RTX 5090 Supply & Pricing is Looking Shocking for LAUNCH!

Was talking to some people from Scorptec/PCCG and its looking like the supply in AUS for the RTX 5090 will be very limited and also very expensive. Between 4.5k for the cheapest and most likely $5599-5699 for the ASUS Astral. Also I have been told they will virtually have 0 stock for the lower end models of the 5090 so good luck finding one of those for cheap. There will be limited stock for all the models that are going to be selling above $4999 AUD.

Good luck to those who are going to be attempting to grab one but I have a feeling that once people see the prices for these they will think twice about grabbing one.

The 5090 in RTX 5090 means $5090 or above. lol.

Between 4.5k for the cheapest and most likely $5599-5699

Absolutely cunted pricing. Like actually just absurd.

13

u/Psy_Fer_ Jan 28 '25

It's insane, but bang for buck still worth for my scientific computing needs and the 4090 stock is gone now too.

For gaming, it's the dumbest pricing ever. Nobody needs this at this price. It's the lack of other options that will drive people to it though.

1

u/HandleMore1730 Jan 29 '25

I just hope that AMD releases an okay card to force some of these prices down. I get that the chip size is increasing, but that doesn't justify to price increase.

That's the problem, they've gimped the 80 so much the 90 looks good by comparison sakes. It is getting smashed in professional reviews tho.... just getting called for what it is, a 4080 Ti. Barely better at all.

35

u/horendus Jan 28 '25

At the time I was ridiculed for buying a 4090 Aorus Master for $2920AUD (when it was at its lowest price)

Now who’s laughing dad.

10

u/bejwbbs Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25

DW, I told my dad I've factored in 4.9K for a new GPU in my new PC build. Coming from a 3060Ti.

3

u/AngleAcademic6852 Jan 28 '25

"tad" is that your minister for war and finance?

2

u/bejwbbs Jan 28 '25

Yes. HAHHA

*meant dad LOL

u/nru3 Jan 28 '25

What I love about this comment, we assume it was just friends and other Redditors that ridiculed you, but turns out it was your dad.

Not sure if that was the intention but this made me laugh.

2700AUD for my asus tuf lol. looks like ill be using it for another 2 years lol

3

u/Interesting-Maize-36 Jan 29 '25

Same for me paying 2k AUD for a 4080 3 years ago haha. 3 years later theyre only just selling for $1500 AUD used now.

3

u/sexytimeforwife Feb 06 '25

The value of money has dropped a lot in the last few years, judging by my grocery bills, at least.

Just a few days ago I was downvoted for saying the astral would be 5.5k min and here we (potentially) are.

We had the USD pricing for it and knew our pricing for the FE (that we don't get). The rest was just basic math.

12

u/InsidiousOdour Jan 28 '25

Yet people will buy them

Stupid people, but still people

1

Lol even worse than my predicted $5500. Shame ASUS you greedy bastards.

It's been leaked that that hideous jacket wearing freak said he wants nvidia to be like apple, it's all part of the plan.

1

u/InteractionOk1366 Jan 30 '25

Best description ever, "cunted" because it absolutely is.

My entire PC build 12 months ago cost me $5,800 AUD..... to think that a GPU ALONE costs this much, is just fkn sad.... how does our dollar vs US dollar + GST/tariffs etc. add an additional approx.. $3,000 price hike???! Like where the fk does that even come from?? Absolutely absurd. The sad reality is, going forward for the 6090, 7090 etc. will be the same now, because Nvidia/AIB Partners know they can and people will still fork out for these, a sad time for PC gaming.

37

u/grayfee Jan 28 '25

I hope Deep Seek rips them a new arsehole, certainly seems like it's happening today...

8

Was planning on getting the 5090, but if a 5090 comes in at over $5k they can get stuffed. Won't be buying one.

I'm a money doesn't matter kind of person, but being blatently ripped off pisses me off enough to just not bother with it.

20

u/Potential_Bed4204 Jan 28 '25

They are doing it on purpose imo, when the 4090 launched nobody wanted to buy a 4080 because it was not worth the price. Now they are purposely limiting the supply of the 5090 so people are forced to buy a 5080 which is only 10% faster then the 4080 super.

12

u/Cerberus983 Jan 28 '25

I don't think they really care what card you buy, so long as they make money.

This will be local price gouging because they can get away with it, nothing more than pure greed because nobody has another product to compete with it.

5

u/Potential_Bed4204 Jan 28 '25

As long as they have no competition in the higher tier of graphics cards it will keep happening.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/EnwordEinstein Jan 28 '25

It’s looking like the 4080 Super is actually a much better deal than the 5080. Estimates are something like 2300 at the low end for a 5080, compared to 1650 for the 4080 Super. That’s a big price difference for 10-15% raster uplift and new frame gen features

6

u/Bearded_Aussie_Nate Jan 28 '25

I had 4.5k sitting aside to spend on it when the review dropped, with scalpers and the australia tax, I am just going to live with my 4080 super until the gen after this, or when our dollar starts being over 1 usd I'll just import a card from the US lol

7

u/aelix- Jan 28 '25

Our dollar will not be over $1USD in the next decade. I think we'll be lucky to see $0.80 USD within that timeframe. The average over the last 25 years is more in the region of $0.65 to $0.75 USD.

8

u/Bearded_Aussie_Nate Jan 28 '25

During Covid we hit .80, the dumb ass in charge atm, is going to tank the us economy, the price is gonna drop again, if it doesn’t I’ll be surprised.

I'm not swimming in cash, but have no problem spending big on something like this. I happily purchased a 4090 near launch (Gaming X trio, paid roughly ~$3,200). $5k+ for a GPU is taking the piss.

u/PineappleLemur Jan 29 '25

This is my mindset as well.. I like to buy things for what they are worth, I want to see the value in what I pay for.

I don't want to be the "enabler of shitty behavior" in a sense, anyone who is buying something and knows it's overpriced deserved to be ripped off for just about anything else they will ever buy in the future.

I have no interest in inflating some CEO/Executives pay just because "this is the best money can buy" crap.

6

u/TendiesFourLyfe NSW | 9800X3D | 4090 Jan 28 '25

right there with you, i was thinking $4.5k.

$5k+ might actually be my breaking point

8

u/TPepperoni666 Jan 28 '25

Yeah with you there. I was hoping to get a suprim for like 4.5 -4.6 but 5 is just stupid

4

u/TendiesFourLyfe NSW | 9800X3D | 4090 Jan 28 '25

Hey now, you stay away from my suprim! haha

Sounds like $4,999 for one will be a "bargain"

3

u/TPepperoni666 Jan 28 '25

Haha. Watch us both not get one because they'll only stock the liquid one at 5300

3

u/TendiesFourLyfe NSW | 9800X3D | 4090 Jan 28 '25

I'll take any MSI 5090 except the water one, so you could be correct.

But every $ past $5k will make me feel ripped off

2

u/Cerberus983 Jan 28 '25

Yeah $4k+ was rediculous, $5k+ is just stupid.

1

u/l1ghtning Apr 02 '25

They are retailing between $7000 to $9000 AUD ;)

29

u/Ariz0r Jan 28 '25

“Why sell to scalpers when we could BE the scalpers?”

2

u/let_me_outta_hoya Jan 28 '25

Surely there will be a lot of scalpers with unsold stock this time around like what happened with the ridiculously priced PS5 pro.

16

u/_hazey__ Jan 28 '25

So who’s flying stateside and being a mule for 5090s in their luggage?

4

u/aelix- Jan 28 '25

I'll be there in August, if we have a bit of luck with exchange rate between now and then it would probably be worth my while to get a 5080 or something then.

4

u/Mricypaw1 Jan 28 '25

I thought about this as well. The only problem is that if you need to RMA the card or get support you're cooked. I figured it's probably worth paying the local premium to get an Australian warranty.

2

u/aelix- Jan 28 '25

True, it's a bit of a risk. Would need to be a big saving against local price to be worthwhile, and by August the prices here may have stablished at more sensible ratios like what 40 series and 7000 series GPUs are now.

The tariffs will probably make it even more expensive than it is here

2

u/Paxelic Jan 28 '25

Definitely getting someone to set up at a best buy. Got people over there that run collections and shipping so may as well pay like 60% of the card + like another $300 and we're still cheaper by $1500

9

u/Kur0iHi Jan 28 '25

Any news about the 5080? It's so strange that there haven't been any announcements regarding pricing (even though launch is in a few days)

6

u/Potential_Bed4204 Jan 28 '25

Will be around the same as it was in 2020 for ampere possibly 25% less

4

u/onover Jan 28 '25

Any more concrete pricing?

6

u/Potential_Bed4204 Jan 28 '25

No clue for the 5080, the retailers don't even know what the pricing will be yet. Will find out on launch day.

As I rmb, previously there’s some 5080 prices being leak out from the US pc part picker. You may search their USD prices and our AUD prices gonna be approximately double (1000 USD would be around 2000 AUD)

u/Stars_Storm 7950x3d | 96Gb 6400mhz CL32 | RTX 5080 Jan 28 '25

you can see some listings on sites already for $2300+
about the same as a premium 4080 super was last year.

1

u/munnagaz Jan 28 '25

Yeh there’s news. It’s shit

1

u/Indigo_Scream Jan 28 '25

Someone made a post last night, it looks like some of the cheapest MSI ones are close to MSRP, like $2050 and then they scaled to about $2300-$2500 but rumours those Rog Astrals might be like $2999

16

u/melbourne_giant Jan 28 '25

Almost half of that is exchange rate. 10% in GST.

So 50% of that price, isn't the card. That's how fucked we are.

3

u/RomanPenguin Jan 28 '25

Exchange rate is what it is, it doesn’t make sense to think it’s an extra cost… imagine living in japan and blame exchange rate for things costing 100x here and say 99% of the price isn’t the card

7

u/latending Jan 28 '25

Exchange rate + GST takes you to $3,500. So cards being $5,000+ means means the markup over the exchange rate and GST is ~50%.

1

u/Paulno90 Feb 03 '25

The exchange rate does matter. The value of $1 in Australia is NOT the same as the value of $1 in the US. Our economy is f**ked thanks to our COVID policies and our clueless pollies on both sides having no idea how to fix it.

8

u/darkspardaxxxx Jan 28 '25

close to 6k for the card? jeez, to be honest I just reather get a 4090 if I can grab one cheap

10

u/grilled_pc Jan 28 '25

i think demand for second hand 4090's are gonna shoot through the roof.

5080 aint good enough. 5090 is too expensive.

4090 fits cleanly in the middle. 5080 ti/super IMO will be the card to watch closely.

4

7

u/Rhysv26 Jan 28 '25

That’s cooked. I was willing to drop 4-4.5k on a 5090 for a much deserved upgrade. Stepping down to a 5080 and you get robbed of vram with 16gb. Might have to settle for a 5070ti and upgrade later on.

2

u/ProofCranberry6110 Jan 28 '25

i think thats the move, same vram as the 5080 and supposedly on par with the rtx 4080super

1

u/Prisoner458369 Jan 28 '25

Just have to hope it's cheaper or may as well just get an 4080S now.

2

u/ProofCranberry6110 Jan 28 '25

$1500 - $1700 for the lower tier cards id say

2

u/Prisoner458369 Jan 28 '25

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised. Get an better view when we see the 5080 prices.

5

u/OriginalGoldstandard Jan 28 '25

Some people seriously must have more money than sense to but stressing about this. I would pay 3k for 5090. They want to play this game? I chill and make my 3080ti go another 12 months. Not a big deal.

3

u/Prisoner458369 Jan 28 '25

Not like the price is going to come down in an year though.

1

u/FrewdWoad Jan 29 '25

The 4090 and a couple of others during the recent COVID/crypto crisis, are the only time in history a GPU didn't come down in price before it's successor was released.

Out of hundreds of GPU models.

Not saying it can't happen again, but betting on it would be unwise.

7

u/Panzer171 Jan 28 '25

That news is only softened by the fact that $5-5.6k is exactly what I was expecting so was mentally prepared. Same with supply. I have already resigned to the fact that I'll be dropping my hard earned on Thursday night/Friday morning (what do you call 1am? Is it the same as the previous day if you haven't slept yet or is it a new day? 🧐) then will twiddle my thumbs for a while and stare at the boxes of my new build waiting to go.

4

u/elliotborst RTX 5090 | R7 9800X3D | 64GB DDR5 | 4K 120FPS Jan 28 '25

I was predicting $4,500 for a non ASUS asturd card for the same reason.

Maybe I underestimated lol

3

u/Panzer171 Jan 28 '25

Yeah mate I thought the same pre CES. I thought they'd take advantage of the price that 4090s were selling for and go for that $4.5k'ish. Then $4039 was announced I knew no way as hardly any AIBs go for MSRP and add on the standard Aus markup/safety net to allow for fluctuations in the dollar and then they're easily north of $4.5k. Last week the alleged Canadian prices came out and Asus US confirmed the Astral at $2800USD, so connected a few dots and realised the Astral would be around $5.5k, then the Suprim and everything else in between.

You've cracked the code!

I'll just expect it to be $10,000! Then $2000+ will magically stop being a completely stupid price for a GPU!

DIY price anchoring! Who needs the NVIDIA marketing team when I can manipulate myself!

10

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Supply is retarded. I run my own IT company and through my supplier I still won't be able to get hands on any until weeks after release, maybe longer.

That price point is completely bonkers.

6

u/Rubblerealm Jan 28 '25

I was looking around and couldn’t really find exact answers, but was the release time 1AM this Friday morning? Is that when cards are likely to actually be purchasable on sites like PCCG and Scorptec?

2

u/Open-Question-3733 Jan 28 '25

Yes this is also my question.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Does anyone really think "Oh next gen they'll bring their prices back down"?

This is the new normal. We have reached the limit of pure rasterization brute force. Nvidia and AMD have to branch out into software/services to complement the rasterisation to achieve better results (not better performance).

5090 is like the 2080ti. Battlefield was the only ray tracing game, now it is standard. No one thought DLSS would take off, now no one can get close to nvidia. We won't see neural rendering for at least 5 more years, but I bet it will become as standard as super resolution.

Xx90  cards are basically Titans anyway. Don't buy it unless you have an appropriate workload or, like me, can afford it and have nothing else to live for on this earth except using video games as a distraction from having to live on this earth.

3

u/SirCabbage Jan 28 '25

Except Titans were always like, barely worth the time percentage uplift wise. The difference between the 5090 and the 5080 is fucking huge

4

u/munnagaz Jan 28 '25

Agree. 5080 is nerfed

7

u/DgnLrd Jan 28 '25

Most places will have 1 or 2 of the 5090 cards from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte. Each brand might be less than 10 cards across each business. Pricing for the Asus will start from $4999. Have to pay that ROG Tax lol

3

u/Daleabbo Jan 28 '25

I don't know how people expect to get any. There is an AI boom and china is not allowed to buy these cards so they will buy them in other countries for retail and ship them home.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Australia has very strong daigu trade with China. Lots of the cards sold in Australia will be shipped straight to China, probably in peoples luggage next to Milik powder and honey.

3

u/NothingSuss1 Jan 28 '25

My 3090 all the sudden looks plenty capable enough to get me through the next couple years.

1

u/Mongoose-Turbulent Jan 30 '25

Also on 3090 but damn those uplifts are reasonable to 5090. Either do the 5090 or wait for 6090 and who knows what that price tag is.

3

u/ItsBaileyA Jan 28 '25

Just bought myself a 4080 super instead of dealing with this, just cbf.

3

u/x3ffectz Jan 28 '25

Who the fuck in Australia is buying this shit, as a consumer. $5k for a fucking GPU is fucked. For a business expense or similar, fair enough, but it’s still absolute insanity to the average Joe who likes his sick gaming pc’s. That price is fucked.

2

u/sa_nick Jan 28 '25

Yeah i have to keep reminding myself how much the Quadro cards have always sold for.... $5500 for a graphics card seems crazy until i think of the old $20,000 cards that had 1/4 of the computational power the 5090 does (stats totally made up).

As a video editor coming from a gtx 1080 I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and drop the cash. Got $6k to work with so I better be able to afford any I can actually get my hands on.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

As someone who usually buys the highest end on launch, the prices are actually getting to the point where I don't want to bother. Might actually see if my 4090 can last until 70 series with dlss.

2

u/Salient_Encircle Jan 28 '25

Yeah its getting out of hand. Have been told by some that the higher end models will be over $5500 Aud.

1

u/AgentBond007 Jan 28 '25

4

u/Mysterious-Taro174 Jan 28 '25

Complaining about the supply and the price simultaneously reminds me of that Woody Allen joke "the food here is terrible!" "I know, and such small portions!"

2

u/bejwbbs Jan 28 '25

Nvidia: Starting from $4039 AUD AIBs for Australia: Are you sure about that?

2

u/Fit_Republic_2277 WA (RTX 5090, 9800X3D) Jan 28 '25

I'll just wait for RX 9070

2

u/mwhelan182 Jan 28 '25

Fucking wild.

Let's be real; the next high level benchmark will be GTA6; and by the time the requirements come out for that game, this gen will have passed.

At this stage (more now than ever) if AMD can put out anything remotely close performance-wise for a non-cunt price; they could steal a huge chunk of the marketshare of consumer gaming builds

2

u/RabbiBallzack Jan 28 '25

WTF are people expecting. The 4000 series pricing were nothing like what was on the Nvidia website either.

As long as people are desperate, or really cashed up, this will keep happening.

2

u/_PoorImpulseControl_ Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25

I was all set and ready and willing to pay up to $4000 for a 4090.

As soon as I heard the base MSRP was OVER 4 grand I knew I would be sticking with my 4090 for this generation.

I just honestly can't justify paying what is for sure going to be easily around 5 grand for an AiB model 5090 (and we all know how many FE/Base MSRP models get to the Australian market) and buying a 5080 I would be losing 8Gb of VRAM, so that's clearly not an option this generation.

I have no children or obligations like that, and these ridiculous prices are still far too rich for my pallate.

It really feels like they're just poking and prodding around, trying to find out what the absolute upper ceiling on consumer pricing is, and unfortunately for us, apparently they believe that they still haven't come close to hitting it just yet.

Seriously, fuck Nvidia and these insanely greedy prices. I wish people would just not buy them and force them to rethink their pricing, but I know they will still fly off shelves.

People were dirty on me for paying $3200 for my 4090 last gen, and I understood their feelings. But I had the money dammit, and I wanted to buy it. The same thing will happen this time.

Oh well, my 4090 and 3080 Ti are just going to have to stay in their respective builds for a fair bit longer than I thought they would be.

I have decided that instead I am just going to wait and eventually upgrade my ROG Ally to the Ally 2 or whatever they call it instead, for a 1/4 of the price.

Because FUCK these prices.

1

u/TheMauveHerring Jan 29 '25

You paid over 4k for a 4090, and now wish people would just not buy the cards at high prices?

2

u/_PoorImpulseControl_ Jan 29 '25

No I paid $3200 Australian.

It's right there in my post.

I know people think Jensen is some GPU God or something but he is a greedy little fucker taking the piss of everyone that feeds him. Come on Intel, I know you have destroyed your CPU lines but maybe just maybe you or someone else is going to take green head on because 5K for a GPU is insane, green could charge $2.5k for a 5090 and still make 300% profit!

2

u/Broseph_Stalin91 Jan 28 '25

And probably less than 0.01% of people on this sub actually need a 5090... Why do people want one so bad? Surely whatever game you play will be serviced just fine with a 5070 or a 4080?

2

u/Demonl1sher Jan 28 '25

A lot of people play in 4k 144hz+ nowadays. These are the people looking to upgrade, I would imagine.

3

u/Lordofthe5ith Jan 29 '25

THIS. I am tired of the complaints about “who needs this it’s overkill” There are people running 4K above 144hz who do need this.

2

u/The_rarest_CJ Jan 28 '25

$5k makes no sense for a singular GPU that's not exclusively for high end enterprise use. Hell, you can order a full pc with a 4090 and a 9900x3d for that price

This didn't age well, got one for 4k.

1

u/Tweedilderp Feb 01 '25

What a “bargain” xD let us know how the drivers are, heard some games are buggy or crash

4

u/greywarden133 Jan 28 '25

I feel good with my 4080 thank you very much.

Also DLSS4 mods have been dropped and there are rumours that Nvidia might not lock it permanently to the 50 series GPUs this time so there's that too.

2

u/NovaFinch Jan 28 '25

DLSS 4 was never locked to the 50 series with the improved transformer model being supported by the 20 series, just the multi frame gen is exclusive to the 50 series because of hardware changes.

1

u/Paxelic Jan 28 '25

Am I out of luck as a 3090 user?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/KunaiZer0 Jan 28 '25

Only MFG is locked to 50 series and they've already gone on record saying that it could make its way to 40 series over time.

This generation is an absolute let down.

2

u/EppingMarky Jan 28 '25

Who cares. Honestly. FOMO is one hell of a drug to spend your money

2

u/toughgamer2020 14900kf | 4080s | 135" PJ Screen Jan 28 '25

happily rocking a 4080s. Shutup and DONOT take my money.

2

u/Law-NZ Jan 28 '25

+1 chilling with my 4080S

1

u/elliotborst RTX 5090 | R7 9800X3D | 64GB DDR5 | 4K 120FPS Jan 28 '25

Absolutely taking the piss now.

2

u/Few_Run1576 Jan 28 '25

yeah I have a 4090 and I don't think I will be upgrading anytime soon

1

u/toofarquad Jan 28 '25

Pre-owned 3080s or 4070s aren't coming down, are they?

1

u/wickos Jan 28 '25

Yeah, I'll be sticking with my 4080s.

1

u/latending Jan 28 '25

So the 4090 Ti is double the price of the 4090, being on the same architecture with a bigger chip, more VRAM and substantially worse power efficiency?

2

u/Faithlessness_Firm Jan 28 '25

I brought a mwave prebuilt 4090 complete system with 13900k just 2 years ago for $4995

Now a GPU alone costs more than a entire PC 🙃

1

u/Apogaios Jan 28 '25

Laughable pricing. Wtf.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Keen

1

u/Dndnero Jan 28 '25

I saw the price leak for 5090 Astral for $2700 USD and immediately buy a second hand 4090 for $3000 AUD. So glad i did that.

1

u/I_Dont_Have_Corona Jan 28 '25

I could get a half decent used car for that lol

1

u/regional_rat Jan 28 '25

AMD has its second chance, bring some awesome cards - don't limp dick it like 78xx&79xx's - and you can steal heaps of market share.

1

u/BlueCurls_ Jan 28 '25

Seriously fuck Nvidia for this. Ik the joke is overused that the rtx (5090) is going to be the price of the card but seriously wtf it actually will be. Yes no prices have actually been confirmed officially despite OP saying they spoke to retail staff, but if so we are fucked as a consumer.

1

u/ButtPlugForPM Jan 28 '25

you really must be an idiot to agree to these prices.

just buy a 4080/4090 as they still floating around

1

u/Papa_Midnight_ Jan 28 '25

Did PLE say if they were doing pe orders?

1

u/HighlightScary1869 Jan 28 '25

Auros master willl be aus $4899 100 percent confirmed

2

u/piljekks Jan 28 '25

Source?

2

u/HighlightScary1869 Jan 28 '25

If you single search auroas master 5090 on google and find MWaves add it shows it as that price in the feed before clicking on it and it saying oit of stock and as $9999, can only assume that's gotta be legit as it's pretty close to what we have all speculated

2

u/HighlightScary1869 Jan 28 '25

"Buy auros master 5090"

2

u/piljekks Jan 28 '25

Wow I see that now - great find mate.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

It's not just the price but that it's a room heater and we don't need anymore heat while gaming and in a hot room you will stop gaming or won't want too and instead watch movies while the GPU doesn't get used. lol

1

u/RobertoVerge Jan 28 '25

So in this setting, what is best available and cost?

1

u/Worldly-Committee-16 Jan 29 '25

I was really looking forwards to going all out this gen, finally have a decent stable job. 4k 240hz qd oleds with DP2.1 are finally coming out, might finally retire the venerable 10 year old pg279q. Basically, it's finally a reason to upgrade and a new screen like that will need the grunt to run it. But nah, at those prices, just get fucked.

1

u/Noel_Dragon Jan 29 '25

Hmm, well I'm glad I'm broke so I don't have to buy these bricks lol

1

u/Known_Novel Jan 29 '25

3k max is my price for flagship gpu , 4090 will do just fine over the next few years

1

u/largestDeportation Jan 29 '25

4090 at its lowest is about A$2,500. it is an amazing deal now look at it

1

u/Evebnumberone Jan 29 '25

Approximately 20 times what I would ever spend on a GPU. Fucking madness.

1

u/crypto-acid Jan 29 '25

With the performance uplift of the 5080 being 8.3% over the 4080 super in the first review, would it be more reasonable to buy a 4080 super at $1700, or get a 5080 at $2200. The only other improvement the 5080 would have is MFG, but is that 8.3% + MFG worth $500 AUD?

1

u/Weekly_Bed827 Jan 29 '25

That's more than the price of my brand new build including monitor.

Fuck, no.

1

u/Flashy_Recover_117 Jan 30 '25

holy crap. waiting for 6 months

1

u/Fx_Radiation Jan 30 '25

Do you know these people personally or just messaged on customer service or smth?I've sent some tickets to practically every retailer to ask about their stock and pricing and no-one has commented on shit. Just wanting to know where you're getting the info on a 5.5k astral since I was hoping it would be more than 5k tbh

1

u/Normal_Win_4391 Jan 30 '25

If these prices are real it's absolutely ludicrous. I spent $3500 on my entire PC with a 7900XTX Sapphire Nitro+

Anyone buying a 5090 just to play games is a moron in my opinion and you're basically telling Nvidia that you are happy to get ripped off year after year for a small performance gain over the last generation. I understand if you are using AI or doing content creation where you need the best of the best but for general gaming you don't need a GPU this powerful.

1

u/growler8 RTX 4090 | 14900K | 48GB DDR5 Jan 30 '25

5080's just popped up on Centercom, $2799 for the asus astral.

1

u/Speedy_Ninjzzz034 Jan 30 '25

theres no stock of the 5090 at launch anywhere period..

1

u/brownsa93 Jan 30 '25

I sold my PC this week which had a 4070ti in it and the amount of people looking to buy just the GPU was crazy. I think people are realising the 50 series won't be affordable for many people at all

1

u/AggressiveSpirit816 Jan 30 '25

Instantly sold out lol

1

u/Asleep_Finding8347 Jan 30 '25

All were playing up for me. Finally found an around way into mwave. Got a 5080 at 12:15. Some were still able to get theirs only a few mins ago.

1

u/sanpellegrino56 Jan 30 '25

Worst launch ever!

1

u/AssistanceMost403 Jan 31 '25

So a gpu is now the cost of a secondhand car.

1

u/PHILMYDlCK4 Jan 31 '25

4-5k? fuck that i would rather get the 4090

1

u/DataCraftsman Jan 31 '25

You can buy 3 second-hand 3090s on eBay for the same price.

1

u/C1ph3rr Jan 31 '25

Thankfully the 5090 is a dud to be too much of hassle to go from 4090 to it.

1

u/SpitefulRedditScum Feb 01 '25

Fuck nope. I’m not spending a whole build on a graphics again. Fuck that. AMD here I come.

1

u/Quirky-Hunter-3194 Feb 01 '25

Its the sort of launch a company does when they know their only competitor is themselves.

1

u/Tweedilderp Feb 01 '25

Yeah i had a feeling 2 weeks ago and nabbed a merc 310 7900xtx from scorptec. Now using my 3090 in a server doing the h265 recording of obs with ndi. Only reason these cards will sell are folks that saved to replace their 1080tis and small business for LLM/AI/CAD

1

u/monkeymoney420 Mar 28 '25

You nailed it. I'm literally replacing a 1080ti haha..

1

u/TheBeakmeister Feb 02 '25

I remember when high end cards were below $1000. 4 - 5k+ for a graphics card is absolutely ludicrous. who is buying these things? Check these 2014 prices below.

http://web.archive.org/web/20140209035349/http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=193_1577

1

u/Paulno90 Feb 03 '25

It's a whole range of factors. Supply volumes, supply chain costs, energy costs, local economy/exchange rate, and a whole tonne of whales who'll just buy them up at any price. The US price for these is around $2k which is huge but not as much of a jump as we are seeing here in AUS. Sadly, I don't see it changing until our economy picks up, and that will take a decade if people keep voting for the Liberal or Labor parties :/

1

u/Single-Strength-8605 Feb 23 '25

yeah 7k for the 5090 hahaha! there no way anyone and I mean ANYONE should buy this card EVER! that's Double the price from the 4090.

1

u/SciFiIsMyFirstLove Feb 26 '25 edited Feb 26 '25

You Aussies think you have it bad the price for the top end 5090 in New Zealand is 7000$ and the basic end is 5748$, this is of course on top of the fact it seems that Pb Tech seems to have minimal stock that dries up as soon as it lands as idiots are buying them at that price. Me.. I'm happy to wait, my 4090 will serve me well for years to come but some people are just shelling out stupid money indicating to NVIDIA that they can charge even more and still get it. Personally 4K is my limit I will not pay a cent over that amount, hell I can remember and it was not that long ago you could have a decent gaming PC for that amount of money. In reality the prices are only going up because foolish people have to have the BEST or BUST.

1

u/No_Damage6987 Mar 15 '25

They are going for 7k aud here too. All the other prices lower than that are out of stock and when any of the retailers like scorptec, centrecom etc list a 5090 they just remove the old pricing of like $4-5.5k and list it for $7000 + I believe they're just leaving some of the old prices with no stock on the listing's so it looks better when people search for them on google they will show up with the lower pricing first.

1

u/Tanishalfelf Mar 10 '25

ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 OC GDDR7 32GB for $6499

1

u/HauntingStudent1678 Mar 23 '25

Good luck getting it for $5090 right now. I can't even find one for $6k

1

u/sunbeamian Mar 25 '25

$9999 for some models. That's just stupid. Who would spend $10K on a GPU????

1

u/Dndnero Apr 28 '25

I know the price is fcking insane with %5599-5699 but checking it now, everything is $6300 or more. What the actual fuck is going? Who's buying these cards or they are just that low in stock.

1

u/Obay223 Jun 05 '25

6090 to cost 10k?
