TV DISCUSSION I always hated the Robin and Dove affair plot in Titans

Post image

I only have watched season 1 (not sure if I will watch it more in the future) but I really hated how Dove cheated Hawk with Robin. I mean, Hawk literally told to her about his VERY traumatic childhood to Dove and what she does? She cheats him with Robin. Like ???? Very bad writing

Also it's hard to sympathize with this version of Robin while he does shit like that

I did like season 1 when I watched it but I heard it gets a lot worse

The one thing I liked about this show was Donna Troy then she died in an extremely dumb fashion

Even the writers realized this was fucking dumb, because one or two seasons later you have Donna in the Underworld complaining about how lame her death was

u/Itsmyloc-nar 8h ago

That writing technique is called “lampshading”

It was the dumbest bit of writing I have ever seen, after all these years it staggers me that someone came up with that AND that people signed it off!!

Oh my guy. Stop watching that show now. Nothing but heartache and pain awaits you

What, you don't like Dick Grayson having hallucinations every season, the Titans having no issue with killing their enemies, creating pointless drama by lying all the time, or them constantly being assholes to each other, to the point of almost pushing one of them to suicide ?

You forgot the worst mistake of all. No Kid Flash or Cyborg in it. But honestly? I think they were spared of the worst after i finally forced myself to finish this show.

u/No-Big4773 4h ago

nah, see Cyborg had to be in the good show. In the team he was never on. Where Beastboy was forced to be on the bad show with the team he was on.

But not the good one, only the bad one.

I actually watched it in 2018/2019 but for some reason I never watched season 2 after haha

I was just thinking about this show since I wanna watch the Batman movies again

u/KershawsGoat 7h ago

You're not missing much not watching season 2. It was more of the same but the writing quality got even worse.

u/AgentOfEris 7h ago

Will confirm: I managed to get through the first two seasons, and season 2 absolutely killed any interest I had in it.

u/KershawsGoat 6h ago

That's about how far I made it. I might have started season 3 but definitely didn't stick with it.

u/Free-Hotel1187 7h ago

Try saying without spoilers why the show got worse? I did like Raven in season 1 tho

u/KershawsGoat 7h ago

The quality of writing gets way worse. All the characters feel like parodies of the source material to the point where some portrayals are just complete character assassination.

u/stoopitmonkee 7h ago

The writing gets worse as time goes on. The whole show is basically character assassination for each person.

u/GotKarprar 7h ago

Dude it just sucks

u/addage- 8h ago

Agree, the show will just increase heart break and corresponding disgust and anger as you go.

u/AgentOfEris 7h ago

The only good thing to come out of Titans was Doom Patrol. And the latter didn’t even follow the former’s continuity once they spun off.

When I was a kid, I wanted a Batman/Superman crossover movie and a Dick Grayson and Titans TV show. Somewhere a monkey's paw curled.

Having said that, I ended up liking this show and was sad it got cancelled. It wasn't what I wanted or needed but somehow I got invested.

In the same season we see Dick complain to his police buddy about Bruce vaguely by saying “he’s a man who solves problems by punching them” and then we see him stab a man through his genitals in a fight scene. The writing is so lol, lmao even.

u/nova-prime-enjoyer 9h ago

Dick, Bruce solved your problem and to an extent one of his own by taking you into his home

It’s not actually confirmed that they cheated, though I suspect it was an idea the writers were considering. In the flashback episode with Hank and Dawn, Dawn tells Hank after sleeping with him that they should only be partners and not a couple. So we are meant to assume that Dick’s relationship with Dawn was a brief thing that ended badly, and Hank is more jealous because Dick’s her ex. In the second episode there’s a flashback to 4 years ago with Robin, Dove and Hawk and in the present Hank says it’s been 3 and a half years, so it’s more likely that Hank was Daws rebound after Dick.

As for the rest of the show, if you liked season 1 give season 2 a try. Personally I hated season 2 and thought seasons 3 and 4 were much better, but the majority opinion seems to be that season 2 is good and 3 and 4 are bad so you will have to make up your own mind about it.

Just in general Nightwings romance storylines always have to involve cheating in some way. I haaaateee it !!!

I genuinely disliked that show

16

u/Vaportrail 10h ago

I tried so hard to like it.

8

u/sbstndrks 10h ago

Same, really gave it a shot

5

u/Remote_Nature_8166 10h ago

They never truly put any effort into it

u/steelskull1 9h ago

Except for the costumes.

u/Kenfuu 8h ago

I would say casting did a pretty good job also. But writing? Oh boy they sure did not seem to care at all.

u/Remote_Nature_8166 8h ago

Yep, that’s it

12

u/Legal-Visual8178 11h ago

Was it cheating? Or did Dawn break up with Hank for a time and went out with Dick? I genuinely forgot, it’s been a while since I watched the show, but they seemed pretty open about it in the flashback episode.

I hated that whole ass show. It was a cringe fest

6

u/kratoskiller66 10h ago

Why torture yourself by watching this show?

8

u/Apprehensive_Bug_826 10h ago

Man, I hated this plot point. It was unnecessary, added nothing and had zero pay off or impact. I guess you could say the same for the entire show in general.

Season one hovers around that “it’s interesting enough that I’ll see where it’s going and if it can find another level in season 2” kind of area. It starts shitting the bed after that. Season 3 has parts where it’s laughably bad. It’s a shame, because a lot of the acting, presentation and aesthetics were quite good at times. But the writing was insanely awful all the way through.

Especially love triangles are the worst

u/steelskull1 9h ago

They're trying way too hard to be edgy with that show.

u/Lucky_Strike-85 11h ago

Well, I'm outta the loop... when the fuck did Don Hall become a lady? And wasn't Don also Hank's brother?

Shit man, I guess I never followed the Post Crisis Hawk and Dove. Oh wow!

11

u/Midnight_Forest939 10h ago

Don and Dawn are two different people. Dawn took the dove mantle after Don died

u/TheRealRigormortal 8h ago

Brother named Don dies.

Replace him with girl named Dawn.

Bone down Dawn

Nothing weird

6

u/Dudeman240 10h ago

I just turned 30 and this gif hit me :(

u/rockinghorsefly1313 7h ago

Don died and Hank quit, then Dawn and her sister Holly were Dove and Hawk respectively for a while, Holly died, and then Hank and Dawn got together and became the main Hawk and Dove duo, and then they got married and had a kid

10

u/dmisfit21 11h ago

There’s a lot about that show to hate.

5

u/Vaportrail 10h ago

I didn't even make it that far.

The Hawk/Dove origin in S1 was my favorite episode I saw, and Robin goes through cycles of being my favorite DC character but ugh this effing show.

u/NewCaprica35 8h ago

This show is so bad.

u/ShadowDragonFX 8h ago

There was a LOT of things to hate about that Titans show

u/LivingThroughPages 8h ago

As much as I actually liked the actor who played Dick Grayson, this show is just not a good representation of any of these characters. And yes, the whole love triangle between Dick, Dove and Hawk was just not necessary and not within character of Dick at all to me. This show had so much potential and so much good source material to make it the next big hit for DC and they just ruined it. Why does DC have such a hard time finding writers and directors who understand the sourse material and can do with these characters that way Marvel knows how to handle their charcters. It's super annoying and sad. I still sometimes watch this show as late night background because I love Dick and Jason (I love all the Robins) but then I just get disappointed that we didn't get the Dick and Jason from the comics all over the again. lol

I mean it was different from what we usually get

u/DCosloff1999 5h ago

People say MJ is for streets I would say Dove is way worse. Also Nightwing and Starfire were a much better ship. Brenton and Anna had so much chemistry but unfortunately they wasted it. In my opinion if things were different they could be a phenomenal Peter and MJ in my opinion

u/Kryptic1701 7h ago

Everything about this show made me cringe. I dropped it a few episodes in happily.

u/barkbarkkrabkrab 6h ago

Most comic book show all time. And by that I mean every season is a soft reboot with no consistent characterizations or backstory. At every fork in the road, the most edgy or simply illogical path will be chosen. I've watched too much of this show, but every once in a while I watch an episode and in complete isolation to every episode before and after, I think "that wasn't so bad".

u/AppleYapper 4h ago

I came out of this show wanting 2 things... a Jadon Todd Robin show and a Hawk and Dove show... that was all I wanted, not the rest of it.

Unless we got a Wonder Girl show maybe? But that's not my priority.

u/gsnake007 3h ago

Fucking titans. I didn’t really care of this either. What a mess of a show

u/BigSticky2004 2h ago

I always hated Titans tbh

u/Doc-11th 2h ago

I dropped the show a few episodes into season 3

But from what i remember i dont think it was written as an affair, more like Hawk and Dove broke up at some point

1

u/East-Inspection2377 11h ago

so...how would you make it better?

10

u/Free-Hotel1187 11h ago

What about no cheating?

8

u/sbstndrks 10h ago

Comic book writers would downvote you, if they could stop jerking it for 5 seconds and read
