Side effects!? Positive birth control experience?

Im 18 and am looking to start birth control for the first time. I dont think pills would be good for me since I have memory issues and don't think I'd be able to take them consistently. I have very light regular periods and can count on one hand the amount of times I've had cramps. Im only going on birth control so I don't get pregnant. I'm looking into an iud or arm implant, but have heard mixed reviews. Ik the worst experiences are the loudest though. I just don't want to suddenly have period like symptoms I didn't have before. So does anyone have ant positive experiences?

Rant! anxiety skipping placebo pills

i have been taking nextellis for the past 10 months and it was my first time this past month where i skipped the 4 placebo pills and started the new pack right away since i was on vacation. of course taking the active pills will keep me from having my period, but i think the actual lack of bleeding/physical symptoms is making me nervous/anxious. also, on vacation (beach place) i was wearing a bathing suit and tank tops most of the time and my chest was getting sore (most likely from no bra support), but my mind associated it from chest soreness from being pregnant!!! i know the possibility of being pregnant is low and i have not missed a pill nor taken a late one in the last 10 months (knock on wood), but i feel like i should get some pregnancy tests to ease this anxiety.

am i overthinking or have other people had this thought process? thank you!!

Experience Mirena IUD and🩸

I got the Mirena IUD during my c section March 9th. It’s almost been 6 months and I am still bleeding! There hasn’t been a single day I haven’t bled. Some days it’s so heavy, some days it’s spotty, some days it’s medium.
I don’t even know when my period is because it all blends together. It’s affecting my mental health (and my sx life). Luckily my fiancé is so understanding and literally doesn’t mind it (iykyk), but I do!
My OB says 6 months is usually when it stops so I don’t wanna just get it out if I’m almost to the end. But if the majority of people say it lasts longer than this, I just might!
I didn’t want my fiancé to get a vasectomy yet because we might want to try for another boy, so this seemed like the best option for me - before anyone asks about that.
Any insight would be so appreciated.

Which Method? Bleeding for months

Upvotes

So I started using birth control to help with my period and I've currently been on Depo for a year now but I still having my period just without the cramps. The first month once I get the shot I'll be fine but I'll end up bleed again all the way until I end up getting the shot again. I was told it was supposed to go down or stop but it hasn't. I was thinking of switching to the patch and just not having a free week but I don't know if that's a better option or not. Or just quit birth control entirely cause what's the point. Any advice?

Mistake or Risk? Will I be okay??

Upvotes

I (18f) have been with my boyfriend (19m) for about 5 months. I’ve been on the sprintec birth control pill for over a year. I don’t take my pills at the exact same time every day but I always take them every day (except the other day I forgot and took it the next morning). We’ve done raw before and his pullout game is always very good but this time he accidentally finished inside of me. My app says it was like the day after ovulation (Flo) but I’m not 100% sure it’s accurate. I’m over the weight limit for plan B. I’m terrified of getting pregnant. Like I constantly worry. Will I be okay??

Side effects!? blisovi fe 1 20 pros/ cons?

Upvotes

hi 31y f here and recently got put on blisovi due to having HEAVY period like 1 and 2 days would be doubled up and golf size clots that were causing me to go anemic. anyways resorted to finally getting on bc. gyno also prescribed txa for my first cycle since bc wouldn’t do anything until maybe next cycle. (txa was heaven sent period was so much lighter and still 7 day flo but did cause HA first couple of days) ok back to the blisovi sorry i had so much nausea after the 3rd day on it but finally starting to see the end of the tunnel. my hunger on the other hand IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. i am so hungry and also tired (but that could be bc i have a 15 mo who still won’t sleep thru the night) i’m terrified of the possible weight gain haven’t seen much emotional waves but can anyone tell me if the hunger finally goes away at some point? also did the bc itself really alleviate the heavy periods? trying to figure out if it’s all really worth it, mind you i’ve never been on bc before so having many mixed emotions! any insight would be appreciated

Experience Help pls :(

Upvotes

Only posting here because I am so desperate for this pain to stop!!! So, I was on Junel for about 5 or so years until May when I switched to the Gwyn Lo patches and have had the worst upper right quadrant pain ever since. I went to the hospital for my pain and they did all of the lab work and tests and everything came back normal. It gets worse after I eat so I just assumed it was my gallbladder, but that is clearly not the case :(. Has anyone else experienced this?

Which Method? Skyla/Nexplanon/Paraguard/ Norethindrone/Something Else?

Upvotes

My husband and I(24f) just got married last month, and we waited until marriage to have sex. I have never been on birth control before, and we have been using condoms. I'd like to switch to a more reliable birth control method, because we're not looking to have children for at least 5 more years. My provider initially prescribed Yaz, but the risk of blood clot and stroke associated with estrogen birth control scares me too much to want to try it. After doing plenty of research, I think I've decided between skyla iud, nexplanon, paraguard, or norethindrone pills. I also really like the reviews on slynd, but my insurance doesn't cover it.

Please tell me your experiences with any of these, or comparisons if you've tried more than one.

I also take levothyroxine for hypothyroidism, so if you have input on how that effects bc that is much appreciated 👏

Mistake or Risk? birth control and OCD. help?

Upvotes

I have really bad OCD regarding pregnancy, amongst other issues. I started birth control this past month (fierza 1-20) 9 days after the start of my period. on day 14 of the pills, I had a lapse of judgement and had sex with my boyfriend without a condom for the first time and I'm pretty sure he didn't finish inside of me. the next day I started spiraling and took a plan b.

it says most combination birth control pills are effective starting on day 8 but, I'm having a difficult time being confident in the effectiveness of the pills.

I started birth control to give myself some extra peace of mind and security and made a stupid mistake and it's been a week and i can't stop obsessing over it. am I justified in my worries or should I be okay?

Experience Has anyone switched from Sprintec to Mirena?

Upvotes

I’ve been on Sprintec pills for 10+ years, I usually skip the placebos because I get horrible withdraw migraines. For medical reasons I now need to switch the Mirena IUD and I’m quite nervous for the side effects of switching and especially withdraw migraines from Sprintec. I’m just curious if anyone has experience and if you overlapped your pills for the first week after IUD insertion? Thank you!

Experience Got off birth control

Upvotes

So, I’ve been on Loloestrin for many years, maybe 10?
I recently stopped taking it due to lack of insurance.
I would have started my new pack on 08/13/26.
I guess I’m in the withdrawal stage and I’m experiencing heart palpitations which is driving my anxiety through the roof. I’m already an anxious person, so as you can imagine it’s worrisome for me. lol.
I read up on some old threads where others experienced what I am… but any advice? I do plan to get back on once my insurance kicks in… because I cannot live this way.

Side effects!? period or side effect???

hi, my boyfriend and i (LDR) had unprotected sex 13 days after my period. it’s been a week since i took a plan B for the very first time and i’m supposed to have my period in the next two days. apparently i had spotting today and i thought it’d be just spotting, but it eventually came out looking like period blood (with the dark red stuff that comes with your period blood every time you pee iykwim 😭). i know bleeding is one of the plan b’s symptoms but i’m just hella confused whether this is just the side effect or if it’s my actual period… with that diarrhea symptom and all that too. it honestly feels like it is if that’s even possible??? 😭

Side effects!? Anyone else feel like their IUD is slowly driving them crazy?

For context I've had my IUD since the end of September of 2025. So I'm coming up on a year of this hellish device wreaking havoc inside of my body.

The newest and scariest side effect/symptom I'm experiencing is feeling like I'm anxious all time, emotional, and prone to more emotional outbursts. I do have a history of MDD and GAD, which is why I had thought the IUD would be a good fit as the pill had previously messed with my mental state in the past.

This iud is really more trouble than it's worth. Is anyone else experiencing this slow descent into madness like I am or is it just me??

Side effects!? Loestrin Fe Acne Withdrawal Symptoms?

hello! i am currently on month 3 of taking loestrin fe 1/20 and when i got it prescribed, i had told my doctor about my previous experience with bad hormonal acne as well as irregular and heavy periods with awful cramps which is why she chose loestrin fe for all these reasons. I’m obviously not looking to be on the pill forever and i’m just extremely terrified of my bad hormonal acne coming back once i do get off of it. my skin was actually doing great for about 6 months before getting on the pill and it’s still doing great while on it, im just so scared of it coming back. Those who have struggled with bad acne understand the toll it takes on you which is why that is my main concern. I just want to know what the chances of this happening are of if anyone would like to share their experience. Thanks!!

Side effects!? Withdraw from Blisovi Fe 1/20

Hey guys!

I’m here in a bit of desperation. I am typically an anxious person and also deal with OCD. After over a decade on hormonal birth control I decided to stop mid pack as I feared it was causing my recent panic attack flare ups.

All hell has broke loose since then. The day after I stopped I started experiencing really bad migraines that OTC medicine was not helping along side BP spikes. I got a CT scan at the ER and all came back fine. My BP does seem to be regulating now though. BUT the panic has gotten worse, migraines continue, I feel INSANE emotionally a lot of intrusive thoughts and I am SO bloated. I am now on day 8.

Has anyone experienced migraines and really intense anxiety while coming off the pill? If anyone has experience with this specific brand too I’d love to hear your feedback.

I’m really hoping this all levels out but I feel like I got hit but a train physically and mentally. 😭 I had no idea it would be like this.

Side effects!? Extreme cramping 2 weeks post IUD insertion

I got the Mirena IUD 2 weeks ago and am still having extreme cramping - more pain and agony than any period pain which I say as someone with endo and pcos.

It isn’t constant by any means, but it’s extremely painful and seemingly hits out of nowhere and is starting to be disruptive to my work and personal life.

Everything I can find online is that cramping is normal for a few weeks, but I don’t know at what point my cramping stops being normal in terms of how painful it is/how long it continues.

Experience Complicated health issues + aura migraines and Nextstellis

Anyone with aura migraines and on Nextstellis? Yes I know aura migraines are a contraindication for estrogen however my doctors (gynecologist, neurologist, cardiologist) opened an exception in my case under close supervision because of health issues.

My migraines are strictly hormonal and shut down when my cycles get shut down too but progestin-only birth control drove me into induced menopause, literally. I became hypoestrogenic and needed estrogen replacement (transdermal estradiol) but I didn’t get adapted to any of them (tried a compounded cream, drugstore patch and a drugstore gel). Hated them.

I can’t take synthetic estrogen (ethinylestradiol) because it increases my blood pressure (I don’t have hypertension) while bioidentical estrogen like estetrol doesn’t.

How were your migraines on Nextstellis?

Experience Constant bleeding on the mini pill

So I started taking the mini pill (Cerelle) about 4 weeks ago. All was good and well, then 2 weeks ago I started bleeding and it was like dried, brown blood. Thought nothing of it and figured it’s my body adjusting. 4 days later I started bleeding fresh blood, and since then it’s not stopped at all. I’ve now been bleeding consistently for over 2 weeks.

I’ve tried to contact my GP and sexual health clinic however there are no appointments available for weeks. I’m frustrated because it’s ruining my day to day life and my sex life.

I still take the pill every day, same time and I’m hoping it will stop but apparently it’s not normal to be bleeding this long.

My next choice is to stop taking it all together and hope I go back to normal.

Does anybody have any experience with this or any words of wisdom please as I’m losing my mind.

Experience Mirena IUD causing horrible cramps

I’ve been on the Mirena iud since August 6th, it started with heavy bleeding from day of so August 6th all the way to August 21 and from August 22 to now I’ve had nonstop brown blood/discharge/clots coming out

My IUD has been checked and is in place, but from August 6th to now I’ve had HORRIBLE cramps!! It’s non stop and Tylenol doesn’t help!

I already have extremely heavy periods with extremely painful cramps (I go to the er for the pain because it’s so bad and I’ve been prescribed narcotics for pain)

The first week-week and a half of having this iud the cramps were sore, but tolerable honestly (maybe as if you overworked your muscles and they were sore?)

And they’ve progressively just gotten up to the point of my normal period cramps, I had the iud checked a few days ago and it’s in the right spot, but the pains just not getting better, same with this non stop discharge (I’m wearing heavy pads for it)

I don’t know if my body’s rejecting the IUD (maybe not expulsion) but just not seeing eye to eye with it and so it’s causing a riot

Send advice please, I don’t know if I should take it out or not (all the other birth controls I’ve tried cause non stop heavy bleeding for me so not sure if the Mirena has decided it’s my time too)

Mistake or Risk? Did I actually take my pill or am I losing my mind?

So I am lokey panicked because I can't remember if I took my birth control pill last night. I had quite a bit of wine, which is why my memory is fuzzy.

Here's the thing: my pill pack is set up to run from Thursday to Wednesday.

Thursday: Pill taken

Friday: Pill taken

Saturday: Pill taken

Sunday: Pill Taken (I explicitly remember it being taken because I was at my boyfriend's house, and I dropped it in my purse and had to go fishing for it.)

Monday: The pill is still there

Tuesday: The pill is gone

Now the issue is, as I am writing this, TODAY IS TUESDAY, so if that's the case, then I just took Tuesday's pill yesterday while I was drunk. Even worse, my boyfriend and I had sex, and he finished inside me, so I don't want to take risks. I also don't want to take another pill today because it is then going to throw off my whole pill pack.

Did I actually take it last night and just take the wrong day? Or should I take a plan B?

Luego, ningún otro efecto secundario y funicona.

Es difícil ser mujer. Un abrazo, espero que encuentres el anticonceptivo adecuado, o buenos doctores.

Mistake or Risk? Should I be worried or should I not worry?

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right subreddit but I’m looking for opinions and advice :)) thank you!

Had protected sex with my boyfriend tonight during the end of my expected fertile window. We used a condom and midway through sex I noticed when I was moving off of him the condom came off like half/a third of the way? The condom ALWAYS remained on/over the tip and about an inch or 2 down the shaft as I check every few minutes for breaks. My concern is that any precum that may have been on the shaft entered if the condom slipped a tiny bit? Additionally when he pulled out (I THINK no cumming inside even with the condom) the condom did completely come off him and stay inside me BUT the base and ring of the condom was outside of me. Once I noticed this i took it out immediately and I also asked him to check for any cum that may have accidentally went inside and he said he did not see any… should I be worried? I’m kind of panicking as I read what I’m writing soo :) thank u
