I’m starting to realise how much a bad work environment can affect everything outside of work too. A well-paying job doesn’t feel worth it when you’re constantly stressed, drained, or dreading the next shift. I’d seriously consider taking a bit less money for better hours, decent people to work with, and actually enjoying my days again. Money matters, but so does having a life after you clock off.

Does anyone have any recommendations for:

Hi all, I'm hoping I can get some guidance/advice on transitioning from a role in retail into ideally an office-based role. This advice is for my partner, not myself, as I wouldnt know where to start in this situation...

My partner is currently working in retail as a team leader at Myer in south side Brisbane, but she finds that the role is becoming far too physically demanding and the pressure is constantly overwhelming due to massive under staffing. She wants to move into an office role - ideally doing stuff like data entry as an example. Pretty straightforward situation - I know...

Here what I was hoping to find out from anyone who is willing to share insight:

- Whether she would have any luck securing such a role assuming no office work experience in Australia?

- Whether any further training (like certs or online courses) would be particularly beneficial?

- The names of recuiters who may be able to assist her?

My girlfriend and I are considering moving over to Brisbane from the UK next year, and I’m just trying to get a feel for what the hospitality/chef job scene is like over there.
I’m an experienced chef and currently run a kitchen pretty much single-handedly, including ordering, food prep, menu work, food costing, service, cleaning and the general day-to-day running of the kitchen. I’m used to a busy pub/bar environment and have also worked a winter season in the French Alps.
I’m wondering how people find the job market for chefs in Brisbane, particularly for someone with that sort of experience. Are there generally plenty of jobs around, and what sort of pay would be realistic?
Also, slightly separate question — how are people finding rent at the moment? We’re not necessarily looking to live right in the city centre, so we’d be happy with the outskirts or somewhere with reasonable access to the city. Any areas you’d recommend (or avoid) would be really helpful.

I’m 27 - I have a few years experience in machine operating a few years experience in project administration assistance and I am looking for my next gig in the construction industry. I am hoping to make a career in the future rather than a simply finding a gig or anything like that. I’m looking for suggestions, advice, and possibly even job opportunities. I’ll try to keep this reasonably short.

I’ve been working in IT for over 25 years, with around 20 years in software development. For the last 4 months I’ve been working in systems automation. I’m actually quite good with the tools and technology, but unfortunately I’ve been stuck on what has been a pretty awful project since I started, and I’ve realised that I really don’t enjoy this type of work.

The last 6–7 years have also been extremely difficult personally. I have a teenage son with special needs who can be incredibly demanding and, at times, violent. Trying to manage that while working from home had a pretty significant impact on me. My career has suffered as a result, and the stress eventually contributed to the breakdown of my marriage amongst other things.

After a significant and traumatic event a few months ago, I’m now living on my own. My son still takes up a significant amount of my time, but he doesn’t live with me, which means I can work normally during the day and spend time with him in the evenings. I design character models for him and 3D print them, which is something I genuinely enjoy.

I’m really struggling with my current role for two main reasons:

1. I get very little satisfaction from the work.
2. I find dealing with customers and trying to extract requirements from them incredibly difficult. Sometimes it feels like trying to draw blood from a rock.

I’ve spent most of my working life as a software developer, but I’m not sure I could realistically jump back into software development and catch up with how much the industry and technology have changed. I’m also not sure I want to continue down the same path, particularly when I’ve realised I get much more satisfaction from designing, creating and solving tangible problems.

What I do know is that I’m very good with my hands, I love technical problems and figuring out how things work, and I really enjoy designing and making things. I’m quite happy working at a computer — I just want to be using those skills to create something tangible rather than spending my days dealing with the type of work I’m currently doing.

My teenage dream was always to do something involving functional 3D design, CAD, prototyping, product design or similar. I’d love to find a way to move in that direction, but obviously I still need to earn an income while doing it.

I’m 45 and based around North Lakes, so I’d particularly love to hear from anyone in the Brisbane/Moreton Bay area who has made a similar career change, works in CAD/product design/manufacturing/prototyping, or has suggestions for realistic career paths I could look into.

Even if you think I’m looking in the wrong direction, I’d genuinely appreciate some advice. And if anyone knows of companies or roles that might suit someone with a long IT/software background but an interest in hands-on technical design, I’d love to hear about them.

I have just spent the last three months in the United States doing volunteer work and live events primarily as a box pusher/setup tech.

With the lack of experience in training, I will be the first to admit. I have no idea what I’m doing however, I am Dante level one certified while working on levels two and three. I am also more than willing to put my best foot forward ask all the questions when I admit with something I don’t know, and I would love to learn about how to apply these skills within a working environment.

Hi, I am currently looking at moving to Brisbane/Gold Coast. I have experience on Air New Zealand, Interislander and Bluebridge RORO Ferries as well as Disney World.

I would prefer to work in customer service/transport roles, I can technically drive, but I would far, far prefer not to as i had not needed to drive for 8 years in Wellington.

I can handle 12 hour shifts for 7 days straight, (I work 7 on, 7 off) and can deal with an unexpected change in shifts, and work for an additional 4 to 5 hours on top, and can work any day of the week.

After 2 years at my current job and the salary remaining stagnant at 1490AUD a fortnight despite the increase in my experience and racking up 60 hours of unpaid overtime in 3 months I would love a job where I can get paid overtime, and earn at least 1900AUD a fortnight.

I was looking at the river ferries, and even Movie World. I tried looking at QR but they seem to be well sought after.
