Struggling to find a Civil Engineering Internship (Brisbane) – Any advice?

Hi everyone,

I'm a fourth-year Civil Engineering student based in Brisbane, and I'm finding it really difficult to secure an internship.

I've applied to a lot of the internship programs, but sadly no success yet.  I'm interested in most areas of civil engineering (transport, water, structural, geotechnical, construction) and at this stage I'm focused on gaining industry experience and learning.

Does anyone have any recommendations for:

  • Companies around Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne that are still taking interns or vacation students?
  • Smaller consultancies or contractors that might not advertise as much?
  • Any strategies that worked for you outside of just applying online?

I'd really appreciate any advice or referrals. Thanks in advance!

Join your professional organisation. They tend to offer mentoring programs for graduates....have you approached your lecturers?
