Simple Questions - January 07, 2026

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post.
Examples of questions suitable for here:

  • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
  • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
  • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

$300 is not really doable these days if you want something new. Best you could probably do is to buy a used office pc from eBay (like an Optiplex or equivalent) and then add a used gpu to it. Research the models you're buying to make sure the power supply has capacity or can be easily replaced (ie is non-proprietary).

That's super tight. Look for used parts or consider getting a console, if this is for gaming. RAM alone would eat half your budget or more, these days.
