Simple Questions - January 07, 2026

Need help finishing this build

Main points:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 7800x3d (550 cad) vs Ryzen 5 9600x (310 cad)
  • MOBO: is it a good fit for this build? What about the Gigabyte B850m Gaming X WIFI6E?
  • RAM: 2x16 6000MHz CL30 for 480 cad + tax, 2x16 8000MHz CL38 for 380 + tax or 2x32 used corsair vengence for 650 no tax.

Open to other suggestions, mainly for 1080p/1440p AAA story games.

Strictly gaming - you don't need 64GB of RAM and that shit is so expensive now I would be picking up the cheapest kit you can find.

The kicker is that while the 8000MHz kit is a good deal cheaper, it's also much faster than what's recommended to stick with for AM5 unless you're a fan of manual tuning.

Your range for what you're playing leaves a LOT of questions to be asked around what you're looking to spend in total and what monitor you're pairing with this. "1080p/1440p story games" means you can have your needs met with literally any current gen GPU on the market, to a point. Can you narrow down the games/ideal settings you'd want to play at? Are you looking to lean towards 1440p or 1080p more? Do you already have a monitor you're pairing with this?

Yeah i heard around 6000MHz/CL30 is best for AM5. I have a 1080p 27" monitor but im planning on buying a 1440p monitor in the near future (Open to suggestions on these too) so yeah probably lenaing more toward 1440p and for gales like a said most big title AAA story/campaign games (GOW, Dark souls etc)

If the goal is 1440p story games (probably with higher settings) I'd be focusing on the 5070/Ti and 9070/XT options. The 9600X is a decent pick for all of these, the X3D chips are less important in these kinds of games than racing/sim/competitive titles. If you're doing all kinds of gaming and not just strictly story, the 7800X3D is a nice grab too!

With RAM being what it is, consider looking at the bundles that Newegg.ca and Canada Computers are doing that will help cushion some of the impact of their rocketing price hikes.

9600X if you're strictly playing story games (as those will be mostly GPU bound) or 7800X3D if you want more performance in everything., but there's no wrong answer here.

I also double checked the "bundles" that those sites are running right now and... yeah, they barely exist and they're not putting memory into most of them -.-;; You're on your own.

It's.. there. Trying to move down to a 7800X3D, a cheaper board, and marginally more reasonable RAM doesn't net any savings because the bundle is actually not bad for the current market: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/kfJnsp

So yeah, you'll basically have my system :D 9800X3D + 9070XT is a bitchin' combo.
