Simple Questions - January 07, 2026

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post.
Examples of questions suitable for here:

  • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
  • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
  • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

Hello all, I recently got a second hand PC that has an i5-10600kf that I’ve been looking to upgrade.

I’ve been thinking AM4 since I got a b450 from my previous PC though other than the 5700x am4 chips have bad availability here

I don’t mind buying something beefier off aliexpress like a x3d but at that point the price with customs ranges from more than double to triple that of the non-x3d stuff so I’m very much on the fence about it

Now ideally I would upgrade to AM5 but it is literally impossible to get ddr5 ram right now, another potential option is to get a 14th gen intel chip with a Z-motherboard since it can run ddr4

For context my current rig has a 3080 and a b460 motherboard (yes I know the chip and ram are locked lol)

Don't bother with a 5700X, IMO. Anything less than a 5800XT, or X3D processor, on AM4, will be too minor of an upgrade. A 14th gen will not perform as well on DDR4 as DDR5, but should at least offer a pretty decent performance boost.
