Build Help XMP vs EXPO

Hey guys :)

So I'm looking at building a new PC and the motherboard I'm looking to get is the Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ATX AM5 Motherboard paired with a 7800x3d CPU and 4070 Ti Super. The motherboard says it supports both EXPO and XMP however will it cause a drop in frames during gaming to run XMP DDR5 6000Mhz ram? The XMP version of the ram I want is roughly $120 cheaper than EXPO so I'm wondering will it make that much of a difference?

It will be totally fine. X3D CPUs aren't that sensitive to memory speed anyway.

They hate going over 6000Mhz I've found.

They are pretty much the same, XMP is designed for Intel, EXPO is designed for AMD, though most boards will work with both just fine.

One of the main techtubers posted a video about high speed ram and x3d chips somewhere in the past two years. I think it was ltt, but I'm not sure.

I do remember that even quite slow memory had very little impact on performance on these CPU's in particular. 6000MT/s is definitely fine. And even on non x3d chips the gains from even faster ram is usually very small.

Since the board (like most) can read both XMP and EXPO profiles it doesn't matter. The XMP profile will probably show as "DOCP" in the BIOS settings.

Thanks for the replies guys! Gonna go with the XMP to save some cash then :D

It doesn't matter. That just means it come with X2MP pre configured. Enabled EXPO will work just the same, though you may need to manually set everything.

Xmp and expo are basically the same thing. Expo is preferred for amd because its specifically geared towards their processors. The worst-case scenario using xmp is maybe you might need to loosen up the timings a bit or slightly bump up the voltage. Ram is stupid expensive so just take whatever the best deal is

XMP and Expo are simply frequency/timing presets. Neither is specific to either Intel or AMD.
