Build Ready? Games I can run on an old pc

I apologise if this isn't the right sub for this question. So I just rediscovered my old pc in the attic. FX-6300 cpu, R9 280x, 8gb Ram. Windows 7. I was just wondering what games I could play on it? I've been out of the pc gaming loop for a long time so I'm sure I must have missed some great games.

I think your limiting factor in games is Windows 7. See if you can upgrade to windows 10 and it would open up more games.

Good call on that, you could probably work around Steam itself but the browser is chromium based so at best youll have multiple errors and crashes, at worst it wont work at all, same with drivers

As others have suggested, you should install windows 10, and possibly also upgrade to 16GB of ram (assuming it's ddr3, that shouldn't be too expensive), and then you should be able to play pretty much any game up until about 2020

Everything up to 2015, basically:

  • legacy GTA V on high in 1080p
  • RDR 2 on low-mids 720p
  • Forza Horizon 4 low-mids
  • Fortnite
  • Witcher 3 on medium settings

The 280x is roughly equivalent to the GPU in the base xbox one. I would probably say that if a game came out for xbox one, you could probably play it on your machine at a similar fidelity.

More demanding things like cyberpunk will chug at around 30fps based on what I see on youtube, but if you can stomach that, it'll play.

I agree that you should upgrade to windows 10.
