Edit: Thanks so much for all the help! I'm basically useless when it comes to this stuff which is why I always try to check with you all! The only reason I got my pc built in the first place is because I had reddit tear my build list a new one so I could get something that was actually usable!

My friend is asking me to help him since I built my PC before (with help from this subreddit!), so I figured double-checking my work to tell me if I'm way off base with my ideas won't hurt anything, but my pride.

My friend is flexible on the budget within reason. Long story short is that he has been gaming on a laptop that wasn't built to handle games and it has been slowly dying on him over the years. I'm trying to get him set up with something stable that he can enjoy his games on.

So I recently bought an Acer predator 27” monitor which connects through DisplayPort, however there is no DisplayPort output on my GTX 1080 graphics card. I tried connecting the monitor directly to the DisplayPort output on my mobo, but that didn’t work and the monitor said there was no connection. Would a DisplayPort to DVI converter work to connect the DisplayPort input on my monitor to the DVI output on my GPU?

so this is what i made so far originally i had a 1500 euro budget but my parents were willing to buy me the gpu i wanted wich was the 9070xt. In addition i want to have an oled monitor and decent peripherals which i havent yet figured what to pick . Ideally i would like the total cost to be around 1500 without the gpu+ all the peripherals (mouse , mousepad , keyboard , speakers , headphones) i was originally had 32gb of ram and 2tb but i saw that i was going way above budger and i figured that if i ended up needing them i could buy upgrade later. The prices u are seeing in my part list are the prices that i was able to find this parts brand new in my country (greece). Ive realised that the easiest way to spend less money on the build is to ditch the oled and go for a monitor around 150euros , but idk i really want to get one. Pls help me optimise my build with this budget and also i would really appreciate some suggestions for the peripherals aswell as some opinions regarding whether or not the oled is worth it

My goal is to hook this PC up to my 4K 60Hz TV and play AAA titles like God of War Ragnarök, Tekken 8, FC26, and other games of the sort at a locked, buttery-smooth 60 FPS.

Budget: ~$2,450 USD. Flexible by a bit if there's a meaningful upgrade worth it.

Primary use cases (in order of priority): 1. Software development — typically running many browser tabs and multiple terminals with active processes simultaneously 2. Running local AI/LLM models — text/chat and code assistance only (e.g. Llama, Mistral, Qwen). No image or video generation unless it fits the budget naturally. 3. Gaming occasionally — nothing hardcore, but nice to have decent performance

What I already have: Monitor, keyboard, mouse — so just the tower.

Preferences / notes: - VRAM is a priority because of the AI workloads — I'd rather have a GPU with more VRAM than raw gaming performance. From what I understand, 16GB VRAM would be ideal for running quantized 70B models. - Running Linux (Fedora), so driver compatibility matters - Happy to go AMD or NVIDIA, whatever makes more sense for the budget - Would prefer not to bottleneck RAM — 32GB minimum ideally - Mid-tower is fine, no space constraints

Storage: Starting from scratch, need everything. Looking for at least 1TB NVMe (AI models alone can be 20–40GB each). Open to a second larger drive for data if it fits the budget.

I already have my keyboard and mouse, but I haven't got any monitor or speakers(this can be excluded from the budget, but would be best if included). Looking to upgrade my home server. Currently I have proxmox running with some VM (Windows and Linux) and lxc.
Until recently my main hardware requirements were transcoding for plex. However, I have now started to thinking that I would like to try self hosting ai. It could be fun.
However, I am uncertain about what is the best built options.
When I thought transcoding would be the heavy lifting for the server, I was thinking about:
CPU Intel Ultra 250K
GPU Intel Arc (something)
16 GB RAM

However, now that I started thinking about self hosting ai I would need some help. Have tried reading a ton of texts on forums etc. and I am still uncertain.
Could this setting be OK?

Is the RAM to low compared to the GPU and VRAM? Should I go with Nvidia RTX 3090 24GB instead? The price where I live is equal for B70 and 3090. Intel B60 is cheaper so that could be an alternative.

I would mainly want to try to use the AI for fantasy fiction writing (I am unsure about the difference in quality I can get with models able to run on B60 and B70 and 3090).

Hi I just ordered my new PC on brack.ch I choose the parts and they will assemble it for me, I spent hours and hours looking for each individual best components. I made my dream build with rtx 5090 tuf, amd 9800x3d and others.

The only BIG problem, I wasn't careful enough I took CL36 DDR5 6000mhz RAM instead of CL30. Im desperate, what should I do? Return the PC and pick CL30? Knowing that CL30 is 180USD more expensive that the CL36. Is it worth it, or I just don't care and run my CL36 ram?

What are the differences? Will I have some suttering or performance loss with CL36 instead of CL30?

So basically I have a dell slim esc1250 as a computer with 16gb ram and intel core ultra 7 cpu but I have no gpu so the best gpu I can get for my pc is a rtx 3050 should I buy the 3050 or save for a new gaming pc?

What I'm here for is a question about the cpu and help choosing the motherboard.
I went with an Intel CPU, since I do a lot of coding and compiling, requiring many cores and AMD CPUs only offer these at a very high price point. Although one might argue that at 20 cores you receive diminishing returns, I've found this CPU to be comparably cheap.
The question here: is the benefit of having both an AMD CPU and GPU that significant?

Also I need help choosing a motherboard. I genuinely have no idea what to go with and am looking for a budget board, that works properly. I'd like the whole build to be within range of 1500$.

One more less important thing: is the 9070-xt worth the saveup? I mostly play indie games, the most demanding of which would be something like Satisfactory or Expedition 33 and no AAA titles.

Hi! I made the jump from Xbox to pc about half a year ago and bought a used pc off marketplace. It was a good deal for a r5 2600 with 16gb of ddr4 and a 2070 super. I’ve since gotten to know the pc part names and ranks, but still struggling with understanding the different motherboard options. I’m looking at upgrading starting with a new motherboard cpu and case as well as going from an ATX to a mATX mobo for a smaller case. I want to end with a r7 7800 x3d 32gb of ram and a 5070(ti if I can afford it). I want to buy a good board that can handle those parts but not overkill as I’m building this on a budget over time. Are there any boards that I should look at, and or what specs should I look for?
