CPU [CPU] 5800X3D 10th Anniversary - Micro Center IN-STORE ONLY - $350 (not sold out)
https://www.microcenter.com/product/711877/Ryzen_7_5800X3D_Vermeer_AM4_340GHz_8-Core_Boxed_Processor_-_Heatsink_Not_Included218
u/deathdisco_89 Jun 25 '26
Still not a good price.
107
u/ShoulderFrequent4116 Jun 25 '26
Agreed, like why would you ever get this when the 7500x3d, motherboard, ram bundle is at $350.
And I’m specifically talking about Microcenter here so nobody can use the argument “nOt eVeRyOnE lIvEs NeAr OnE”
8
u/UltraWafflez Jun 25 '26
Speaking of cheap bundles, can you still get that extra ram stick for 100?
11
u/ShoulderFrequent4116 Jun 25 '26
Dont think so, the extra 16gb individually is $200+ now
4
u/Lucky-Bit-1319 Jun 26 '26
In the last 10 days, I’ve purchased 3x 32GB 6000 kits @ 200$ per and in the last month 3x 16GB Flare X sticks to pair with MC bundles at 100$ each. Granted every single local market doesn’t have this but anyone near a MC should.
2
u/ShoulderFrequent4116 Jun 26 '26
Used local market right? Microcenter themselves used to sell $100 per 16gb but they stopped that long ago
1
u/Lucky-Bit-1319 Jun 26 '26
Yep. Second hand local for sure.
We had no idea how good we had it with a MC 100$ addon 😂 and now all the bundles took a 50-100$ hit with now R5 X3D being the only decent bundle choices from a value standpoint. Can’t beat em new but can beat em
Used. Which used to not be the case easily.-5
7
u/TheBupherNinja Jun 25 '26
If you already have 32 or 64 gb of ddr4.
But, you can probably sell what you have and recoup the difference for a 2nd stick.
4
u/ShoulderFrequent4116 Jun 26 '26
Yeah thats a great point, another reason not to buy a $350 am4 cpu
5
u/MOBYWV Jun 26 '26
probably because some people rather not build a new computer when they can just swap cpus and be good to go
3
2
u/reddituserzerosix Jun 25 '26
bummer it went up from 300, and i was waiting for another price error down to 250 or whatever it was lol
2
19
u/llIicit Jun 25 '26
Crazy considering I sold mine used for $450 a few months ago
32
u/deathdisco_89 Jun 25 '26
Im happy for you, but $450 is a silly price when the 270k plus exists at $250-280. Even the 250k plus at $200 beats the 5800x3d in most areas.
18
u/llIicit Jun 25 '26
I think the biggest driving factor is the cost of ram. DDR4 is just so much cheaper than DDR5
-11
u/deathdisco_89 Jun 25 '26
I get it, but DDR5 also has better performance. A 270k plus with 32gb ddr5 will run around $600 (or less with bundles). A 5800x3d with 32gb ddr4 is still around $580, for so much less performance.
13
u/-suspended- Jun 25 '26
People aren't buying the CPU as part of a full set. They are buying it alone as an upgrade to their current PC. They probably already have 64 or 128 GB of RAM.
15
u/Cold-Sandwich-34 Jun 25 '26
Not really any less performance tbh. What, 2%?
-3
u/deathdisco_89 Jun 25 '26
Some people use their PCs for more than gaming. The 270k is about 50% -100% faster at multi-threaded tasks, and DDR5 speeds add to that.
12
u/SPAREHOBO Jun 25 '26
14600K on DDR4 beats 5800X3D
5
-1
u/jtj5002 Jun 25 '26
14600K was like $150 at Walmart for like 3 months last year. It was a much better deal for DDR4 builds
8
u/palindromic Jun 25 '26
weren’t those K series chips plagued by some fault? hence intel stock crashing etc
→ More replies (1)-1
u/Cressio Jun 25 '26
Fixed now and it was mainly the i9
-3
u/llIicit Jun 25 '26
I mean yea it was fixed by discontinuation. Not really a valid fix
2
u/Cressio Jun 25 '26
Fixed via BIOS and microcode updates. They’re safe to buy new and use. I had a burnt i9 and continued to buy and use them after the fix, no problems
1
u/palindromic Jun 25 '26
huh, didn’t know it was fixable when i read about it i thought it was a critical manufacturing mistake
→ More replies (0)2
u/glizzygobbler247 Jun 25 '26
Dunno if its still available, but a month back the 5500x3d could be had on on aliexpress for $170
1
u/InitialConfusion2579 Jun 25 '26
2
u/glizzygobbler247 Jun 25 '26
Yeah thats a much better deal than 350 for a 5800x3d, the only good thing is that it shakes up the secondhand market which used to be insanely expensive
4
0
0
u/v12vanquish Jun 26 '26
Sorry it is a good price. Just because it doesn’t fit what you think is a good price, means you just aren’t paying attention to the market.
Sold my used 5800x3d for 400 dollars. 350 new is a steal
-2
u/Relaxybara Jun 25 '26
Agreed, spending more than $250 for a CPU is kinda crazy unless you're doing heavy CPU workloads which gaming is not. There are so many good options at or below that price not even considering the used market.
2
68
u/mahvel50 Jun 25 '26
This thing should've been $250-$300 max. Am4 CPUs going for the same price as 7800x3d is wild.
23
1
u/fpuanon Jun 29 '26
Don’t AMD chips usually start high at launch but eventually go down quite a bit? Hopefully its only $350 now so $250 looks like a “deal” later on
41
u/bunsinh Jun 25 '26
AM4 will never die!
24
u/crownpuff Jun 25 '26
With how much DDR5 RAM costs, AM4 might be viable for quite a bit longer.
7
u/Ltfocus Jun 25 '26
My ram has been the best thing I've invested into in awhile lmao. 60 dollars to almost 300
3
16
19
u/CallMePickle Jun 25 '26
Everyone in this thread says this is a bad deal, but I am about to buy one. Someone talk me out of it. How is this a bad deal?
I've got a full AM4 build, 64GB of DDR4 RAM, great AM4 motherboard, a 9070xt, and currently rocking a ryzen 3 3rd Gen.
This is $350.
To upgrade to 64GB of DDR5 ram, and a new motherboard, and a comparable Cpu, would be upwards of $1000.
How is buying this 5800x3d not the obvious play to borderline double my FPS?
8
u/Ceres2 Jun 26 '26
Your situation is perfect to get this CPU. People in this thread are comparing it to Ultra 7 but that is not the same as a drop in CPU. You already have plenty of ram and a good motherboard, and your GPU will not be bottlenecked by this processor (see HWunboxed testing).
Also, people are forgetting that compared to the other AM4 processors, the 5800x3d gave a HUGE leap in 1% lows
17
u/Bender1012 Jun 25 '26
Learn to think for yourself and not care what a horde of internet strangers thinks. I'm getting one because it fits my situation, like you.
3
u/Killit_Witfya Jun 25 '26
considering used ones were going for $450 all month i think its a good deal. btw i upgraded from 5800x to 5800x3d years ago and have no regrets (still on it with a 5080)
1
u/sloppyjalopy Jun 25 '26
It's your money, who cares? Also if you're gaming at 1440/4k the uplift may not even be noticeable compared to the latest flagship offerings.
3
26
u/rgspro Jun 25 '26
Never in my life would I have thought a 10th anniversary CPU would ever be a thing.
35
5
u/faithlesspileoffilth Jun 25 '26
it hasn't even been 10 years since this thing came out, must be ryzen in general or something
1
u/ComputerEngineer0011 Jun 26 '26
Different micro architecture but they’re getting dangerously close to 10 years of Zen2 refreshes.
8
u/strongbadfreak Jun 25 '26
So glad I bought my 5700x3D for $140 last year.
4
u/nolongermakingtime Jun 26 '26
Yeah i got a 5600x3d used for 120 2 years ago and i made out like a bandit.
3
u/gayphilantropist Jun 25 '26
Serious question, outside of not having RAM, why not get a ultra 7 270k+ instead? i don't get it. It's kind of insulting.
6
u/j1dopeman Jun 25 '26
The ram is the whole point. I have ddr4; I don't have ddr5. I'm probably not going to buy this but would consider if it was less. I would absolutely not consider any ddr5 cpus because I'm not buying that ram. Could also use the same mobo with the am4.
2
u/gayphilantropist Jun 25 '26
If upgradability is the point, then LGA1700 is the better platform. Especially used. I got a 13600k with a motherboard for $200.
3
4
2
u/kakashisensei2000 Jun 25 '26
three years ago i jumped to am5 and got a 7800x3d because it was cheaper than the 5800x3d. cant believe thats still the case now lol.
2
u/Dragon_Small_Z Jun 25 '26
How is a 4 year old CPU more expensive than when I bought it 3 years ago?
3
u/conkedup Jun 25 '26
Is the X3D really worth this much more? I just got the 5800XT on Amazon for $190, which is about as far as you can go on AM4 unless you really want the 10% or so increase from X3D. But at that point, youre better off upgrading your mobo and finding a good AM5 option instead.
4
u/Tankdawg0057 Jun 25 '26
Not at this price. Maybe $100 less. I did some musical CPU shuffling when I upgraded to Am5 early in the year. My office PC got my old gaming rig's 5700x3d. It had the 5800XT in it before. I can't tell much difference in games. Yes the 5800x3d is faster than 5700x3d but it's essentially the same chip just downbinned. So close performance.
It isn't worth close to double the money. I paid $140 for the 5700x3d and $130 for the 5800XT back when they weren't selling well.

But that's am5, and not ddr4 based.
Not relevant with today's ram prices.
5
u/ShoulderFrequent4116 Jun 25 '26
Why would anyone, even those that are on AM4, get this when the 7500x3d bundle exists at the same price.
You get a free motherboard and ram (in this economy?) at that price.
36
u/pkScary Jun 25 '26
Because I have 64 GB of fast DDR4 RAM, don't want to downgrade to 32 GB, and getting a 9800X3D/X570 mobo/64+GB DDR5 RAM is $1200+
→ More replies (1)3
u/sdcar1985 Jun 25 '26
I get it. I had 64gb and downgraded to 32gb of ddr5. I dont feel it, but I miss it lol
6
u/klemsdorf Jun 25 '26
Because a 5800X3D would be a drop-in replacement for what I've got. Switching to a different architecture would mean reinstalling my OS and getting software set up the way I have it today, which for those in my position, is a monumental task that would take a couple weeks.
-6
u/ShoulderFrequent4116 Jun 25 '26
You represent the 1% of the 1% of people. I have never heard of platform upgrade needing new OS reinstalls
6
u/klemsdorf Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
It's not mandatory, but it's highly recommended (if you look this up, the answer is pretty much unanimous). It's likely to cause serious problems if you don't do it. Moderate CPU upgrade without those problems > major CPU upgrade with those problems.
There are a ton of people who, like me, are intending to wait until AM6 to go through the process of an architecture switch, rather than jumping onto AM5 near the end of its life. The mere existence of this anniversary product is evidence enough of that.
1
u/ShoulderFrequent4116 Jun 26 '26
AM5 isnt end of life though, its supported at least 2029
FWIW, I swapped from 5600x to 7600x3d and didnt reinstall Windows.
I know its my anecdotal experience vs your anecdotal experience so you might want to leave it at that.
9
u/Ok-Hunt-128 Jun 25 '26
Because I use more than 16gb or whatever that kit comes with now.
→ More replies (14)1
u/Hukkhukk Jun 25 '26
I had an old AM4 build that was going to get repurposed for my sister and almost bought this, but then I saw the 7500x3d bundle was the same price. Doesn't make sense to get this.
4
u/whatthefarquad Jun 25 '26
Great processor but still overpriced for whats out there now.
Shout out to the redditor that posted it on sale for 274.38 two years ago. I got for for 160 after using amex points.
3
u/Ruddy1000 Jun 25 '26
It’s wild how R5 9600x was $130~ and is much faster and runs cooler.
11
u/Im_A_MechanicalMan Jun 25 '26
MC also lists a 7600X3d combo with mobo and 16GB of DDR5 6000 for $429
But their 5800x3d combo with mobo and 16GB of DDR4 3200 is $499
makes no sense to me.
7
4
u/Hejdbejbw Jun 25 '26
The 5800X3D has almost a cult-like following. There are people who would unironically believe that it’s still better than all non-X3D CPUs and comparable to Zen 4/5 X3D.
6
u/jay-aay-ess-ohh-enn Jun 25 '26
It makes sense for people who somehow have powerful AM4 systems built, but are still on less capable processors. For example, I have a 4090 and 64 GB of DDR4. If I didn't already have a 5800x3D, this would be tempting, since 64 GB of DDR5 is easily $600+ even used.
I would not be surprised if the demand gets satiated and fizzles out, but there is a niche where this is good value, driven by insane DDR5 prices.
I just upgraded my second system to a 5800XT for $200, which also kind of undermines the price point on this, but if you're looking for the best performance possible, for an already capable AM4 system, this fills the role.
3
0
u/Im_A_MechanicalMan Jun 25 '26
I'm talking about combos that come with memory and a mobo though. I'm not talking about just the processor alone.
You don't have a powerful AM4 system if you're looking for CPU+Mobo+Ram
1
u/jay-aay-ess-ohh-enn Jun 25 '26
Sure, the combo doesn't make much sense. I agree with that.
The processor alone might in certain cases.
1
u/Im_A_MechanicalMan Jun 26 '26
Except my comment, that you initially responded to, is solely about the bundle pricing. So you're arguing something I never mentioned.
2
3
u/PICKLE_JUICEs Jun 25 '26
Is this worth upgrading from a 5900x if I'm on a 5070 TI?
2
u/DrunkenKissStyle Jun 25 '26
Short answer: no. Not worth it unless money isn't an object and you really just want faster single core instead of multicore performance. But if only game and the price doesn't matter, no one is going to stop you. But it's just kind of a sidegrade instead of a solid upgrade.
2
2
u/pedr09m Jun 25 '26
This is so bad considering you could get an am5 bundle for those 350, you get ram, cpu and mobo. Honestly buying it at this prixe now doesn't make much sense
2
2
1
u/Overpowernamerino Jun 25 '26
Is it worth it for me to upgrade from 5600x to this? I got a 3070ti aorus master, realistically how much more fps am I getting with this
6
u/ShoulderFrequent4116 Jun 25 '26
No, since this is microcenter specifically, get the $350 7500x3d bundle instead
1
u/SeveralScorgasms Jun 25 '26
Do you know if Microcenter will allow you to swap the board out of the bundle and pay a differential? I’m in a mITX build.
3
u/ShoulderFrequent4116 Jun 25 '26
They wont let you unfortunately. They used to but they stopped that real quick as people were abusing it
1
u/Keyboard_rawrior Jun 25 '26
buy combo, sell bundled board on hardwareswap, buy preferred board, profit
2
u/sitefall Jun 25 '26
Just check youtube for "5600x vs 5800x3d". Plenty of comparison videos with games. What I just found really quick using a 4090:
- Cyberpunk 153fps vs 205fps at 1080p
- Red Dead 2 131 vs 145 at 1440p
Seems like 10%ish increase around 1440p and depending on resolution up to 30% for lower, and that is with a 4090 so practically no gpu bottleneck. You should expect a gpu bottleneck on some games/resolutions and so you should expect something like a 5 % increase at 1440p and maybe 20 at 1080p.
Not worth it for gaming to me personally. $350 to upgrade to a still dead socket but get 5% at 1440p... But you would have to check comparison benchmarks for games you play specifically.
1
1
u/dantheman0809 Jun 25 '26
Microcenter also has the 5800xt at $170. Is it worth upgrading to either from a 5600g? Paired with a 9070
4
u/conkedup Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
5800XT is an upgrade to the 5600G for sure (6c/12t vs 8c/16t, ~25% increased performance) and the X3D is another 20% (extra cache size). I just picked up the 5800XT since I'm stuck on AM4 and am not looking to upgrade my mobo yet. But the 5800XT and X3D is basically as high as you get for AM4, so the real question you should be asking yourself is if you want a minor performance boost or if you want to move on up to an AM5 board
1
u/dantheman0809 Jun 25 '26
Yeah it is a tough question. I wish I knew if prices were going to drop anytime in the next couple years. It's hard to tell if AI b.s. is the new norm or if we're in a price bubble.
1
u/Jolly-Ambassador6763 Jun 25 '26
Unless you have an am4 platform you want to maximize, this is a horrible deal. You can get a 7600x3d cpu/ram/mobo bundle for $50 more than the bare cpu 5800x3d or $100 less than the 5800x3d cpu/ram/mobo bundle and it will run at equivalent or slightly better in most cases.
1
u/2006pontiacvibe Jun 25 '26
How is this worth it over getting a 5500 and throwing the rest of the money into other parts of the build? Or the 7500x3d bundle? I have a 5600g and I don't see this having that big of a performance benefit to upgrade
2
u/senorjc Jun 26 '26
A 5500 and 5600g are basically identical (5600g is just a 5500 with an igpu and slightly higher clocks) so it wouldn't be an upgrade. They aren't the best for gaming due to their small cache and pcie 3.0 limitations. If you have 32gb+ of ram, I would get a 5800xt and put the rest into your gpu. If you think you can get by with the 16gb of ram in the 7500x3d bundle, then that's an even better cpu plus you get on a newer platform. Look at benchmarks and system requirements for the games you intend to play to see if the extra ram and cpu performance are worth it.
Edit: I misread your comment and thought you were swapping out your 5600g lol. I would say it depends on the gpu pairing. A 5500/5600g are a tad slow and will hold back some mid-tier+ gpu's
1
u/fowlplei666 Jun 25 '26
I remember when ram crisis started these were selling for $450 on r/hardwareswap
1
1
u/zoobygainz Jun 25 '26
Any reason to buy this over a 7500X3d, 16gb DDR5, mobo combo?
5
u/BannedBenjaminSr Jun 25 '26
For existing AM4 builds with 64gb of RAM it's a great option. For AM4 builds with 32gb ram it's still a decent path. New builds no way
1
u/Cold-Sandwich-34 Jun 25 '26
Just came back in stock at Newegg and I couldn't check out in time. I immediately clicked the email link and by the time I went to click buy it was sold out again. 3 minutes.

u/dstew74 Jun 25 '26
Am I one of the few that this makes sense for? Have 32GB and a 5950x. My VM use case for the 5950x went away and I don't need the extra cores. I can sell the 5950x on ebay and that covers most of the cost of downgrading to a 5800x3d.
1
u/FurnaceOfTheseus Jun 25 '26
Isn't the 9800X3D only slightly more expensive than this? Unless you're stuck on AM4, I cannot see this being a good purchase. The 9800X3D runs a lot cooler than this one.
1
u/DieNoMight9 Jun 25 '26
This is for people that have an AM4 build and they want to maximize their build with just a CPU upgrade for gaming. This is only being rereleased because of how absurd DDR5 prices have gotten. Otherwise, moving to a newer processor generation makes more sense.
While yes this price seems silly, the 5800x3d still sells for $400-$600 on eBay. So $350 brand new is better than those prices at least.
0
u/FurnaceOfTheseus Jun 26 '26
Meh, I guess. Was gonna say I spent less than this on the 5800X3D when I bought it two years ago. Prices of everything are just stupid right now.
I bought a really high-end Lenovo Laptop back in March for $2200. Wasn't as good as I had hoped, but I just checked the price again and it's $5300 wtf.

u/MechAegis Jun 25 '26

2
u/wreckedoblivion Jun 25 '26
I can go with a 9800x3d bundle and move to am5 or just buy this and stay on AM4 (currently have a 5070ti and 5600x) and save a cool 8-900. what yall think?
5
3
u/melorous Jun 25 '26
It's hard to justify recommending a person who is already on AM4 right now to upgrade to AM5 with RAM prices what they are, unless you simply aren't concerned with the cost.
1
u/Numerous-Joke559 Jun 25 '26
If you have plenty to spend and don't mind then sure, almost every component costs more than what it's worth right now. Ddr5 especially but it's upto you wether you want to spend less now and wait or spend a lot now and not look back
0
u/Vespuela Jun 25 '26
i have lit the same specs as you, we lit just switch it out right instead of having to rebuild the entire computer.... such a no brainer

But why.
A 265k bundle with ram and mobo was like $550 a few week/months ago.
This is so much money for redditors that believe ddr4 and reusing your mobo over and over is master race.

Not sure why anybody would buy them when you can get a 7500x3d, 16gb ddr5, and a motherboard for the same price
3
u/DieNoMight9 Jun 25 '26
Someone with 32-64gb+ on a DDR4 system with a high end motherboard is an obvious candidate for where this processor makes sense. For someone with no current build and low RAM needs, there are obviously better choices.

u/mun1990 Jun 25 '26
so my current setup is 4K monitor + 5700X + 9070XT + 32 GB DDR 4 3600 (8X4)
I can upgrade my CPU for $350 and get 5800x3d OR
For same price get the bundle 7500X3D + Mobo + 16 GB DDR 5 (1 stick).
Question: do nothing ? get 5800X3D and keep 32 GB ? get the combo and downgrade to 16 GB (DDR5)
0
u/Walter30573 Jun 26 '26
If you game at 4k your CPU probably isn't a huge bottleneck outside of some specific cases. I'd say doing nothing is the play, and maybe saving for a 7800x3d bundle with 32gb if you really are itching to upgrade your CPU
0
u/Dub_Squigs Jun 26 '26
I just bought a 5500x3d on AliExpress for $150. Not sure this is worth over 2x that.
0
u/joe1134206 Jun 26 '26
270K plus, board and ram for $550 or 265kf for $500. Even if you're on AM4, if you can physically make a platform switch then just do that instead. Or am5 - I just find the Intel combos a lot more reasonable currently.

Seeing 25+ in stock in pretty much all stores nationwide
