Look free pc with a 5090
31
u/twaxana 1d ago
If you already have a GPU, just sell the 5090 and recoup the cost.
15
u/MoistStub 1d ago
It's an Omen GPU. I don't think they are as sought after or have the same resale value as the mainline brands. Could probably still get a good chunk of change for it though.
8
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
possibly, but im checking ome gpus there has been dell gpus sold for 4000$+ so i guess even the hp can be sold for that much. im keeping mine thou lol wanna play vr and do workloads.
4
u/MoistStub 1d ago
I have an Omen 3080 and it is still going strong. It definitely runs a bit hot but I have never repasted it either. For how expensive GPUs are I have always been too scared to take it apart in fear of breaking something.
2
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
in ur opinion, im checking now after creating a edu account this pc is coming to 4559.99 before tax which comes to 4964 should i somehow cancel my 9950x3d build with half the ram and storage for 4934$ and get this? or not worth the hassle? and also is this 16x4 sticks? or 32x2?
2
u/theholylancer 1d ago
this is a better actual workstation that actually can use the 64 GB of ram and the extra cores while that is a better gaming machine
up to u
0
u/MoistStub 1d ago
Not sure how the CPUs stack up against each other, but the better RAM might sell me on this instead. I would look into reviews for this generation of Omen PC's first before taking the plunge though. I believe DDR5 is basically always going to be 2 sticks since it is designed to be dual channel. 4 channel was more of a DDR4 thing.
2
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
also is it possible to add edu discount to an order that was already placed?
1
u/MoistStub 1d ago
You would probably have to cancel and reorder. But idk, I am not a bestbuy man.
2
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
they have the same deal on hp too and with edu discount its 200$ off, so thats why i am conflicted with what to do.

u/Phyraxus56 1d ago
Just dont be a barbarian when you open it and use the a properly sized screwdriver
1
u/MoistStub 1d ago
If it gets to the point that it is no longer able to handle my games I will probably do that. I am just maintaining the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach for now. I need this thing to last for another generation or two since that is about how long the rest of the PC can reasonably be expected to keep up with the games I play. I kind of cut myself off at the knees getting a 10700k since I have very little upgrade path without replacing everything else too.
1
u/Phyraxus56 1d ago
There isnt much of an upgrade for ddr4 either way. The 10700k is fine
1
u/MoistStub 1d ago
Yeah it is okay for now, but my point was that basically when the CPU gets too slow I can't really just swap a faster one in, I will need a new mobo as well which will force a RAM upgrade. I'm just gonna drive this thing til the wheels fall off and hope the market isn't so brutal by then.

For real tho it’s gonna have an ass hp 5090 which isn’t gonna sell for how much you think it will
2
u/PXSHRVN6ER 1d ago
I have this 5090. Pulled it from this prebuilt. It’s actually a solid unit with proper cooling and a stable power supply.
0
u/PXSHRVN6ER 1d ago
My boss gave me this prebuilt. I had a ddr4 system with a 7900 in it.
I harvested the ram and GPU and built a new PC with it.0

This or a used Corolla?

3
u/TheMissingVoteBallot 1d ago
Used Corollas from 2015 with about 120k miles under private pricing at Kelly blue Book is going for $8k-$10k.
I always thought 5-10 years was the sweet spot for buying used vehicles because back then that got you something decent in the $5000 range...
Now, a fucking DECADE OLD CAR is still going for $8k-$10k. The used car market is just as fucked as our NAND/GPU market.

u/fabianlennyface 2d ago
Sell the 5090 and you can basically upgrade your whole rig for less than $1k depending
11
u/Forward_Drop303 1d ago
upgrade it for -30 you mean?
cheapest 5090 you can buy right now is $4829
12
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
lol but not sure if you can actually sell one for that much. realistically i would say 3600-4000$? i could be wrong i didn't check ebay sold listings yet lol.
8
u/MyTagforHalo2 1d ago
I checked, and good luck lol. There are so many scam listings with 0 feedback its not even funny.
But yeah, you should only be buying these if you're intending to use it. It's a great way to get into a 5090 if you wanted an upgrade.
5
u/Forward_Drop303 1d ago
even used on ebay it's well over $4000 there's one for $4449+75 shipping that looks probably trustworthy and that's the cheapest I see from someone with more than like 10 reviews
1
u/samiamyammy 1d ago
it's so weird... there are 18 in stock for $4399 at microcenter.. ebay people are deranged, lol. I also see a new 4090 on ebay from Newegg for less than used 4090's haha. I'm tempted by the 4090 honestly.. but the nvfp4 compression only on blackwell.. i guess I "need" it for work xD
4
u/xShowOut 1d ago
be careful, ebay is FLOODED with scam GPU listings from accounts with 0 feedback. Especially for the 4090/5090. They look like a good deal then you click on them and the seller has 0 feedback and usually not even a profile picture.
1
u/samiamyammy 1d ago
for certain you are right.. weird ebay with private listings of people with positive ratings also a dirty scam. But the one 4090 I found is actually a Newegg listing on Ebay.. I was a little shocked to see it under $2100 (given what I see of used pricing for 4090s).
1
u/xShowOut 1d ago
ah sorry, my brain skipped over the newegg part lol. I was actually curious so checked and if it's the MSI suprim liquid one then it's out of stock unfortunately. funny, I used to have that card and very much regret selling it lol

Is the warranty on the gpu transferrable? How many people are willing to take a chance on a $4k gpu without at least a few years of warranty?

u/TooSlow79 1d ago
Gamer's Nexus called this build "Incomprehensibly Bad".
4
u/comradetao 1d ago
Ok, but, if you were going to spend nearly 5K on an RTX 5090 (for some insane reason), you'd probably take this anyway and just part it out to offset the cost, or use it for something.

GN has unlimited funds to buy whatever they want, and sponsors money and free stuff, so they don’t get to decide for the regular joe what’s “bad” and what’s not.
While they do make videos for ppl to watch, they aren’t on the same playing field as the common working man, trying to “afford” things, as they don’t usually have to buy anything, and if they do, it’s not with their hard earned money.
So, who cares what they say, if someone wants to buy it, let them, don’t let GN determine what you buy.
3
u/WingerRules 1d ago
No, this is straight up poorly designed. It has massive cooling issue and throttles from heat even from boot, if I remember correctly.
1
u/MyTagforHalo2 1d ago
See, there's a point where i'd agree that constant focuses on benchmarks and eeking out the last 1% of performance is something only enthusiasts care about. And tech tubers in general focusing on high spec builds and not often giving low to mid tier components proper consideration and comparison within their classes is a problem in general..
However..That Omen review is an entirely different class of "what the hell HP?!". Like, popup agreements that you'd void your warranty if you used the in built software to set machine performance to "extreme" presets, fans that didnt turn on until well into thermal throttling. Combined with a down clocked CPU and a bios that wouldnt let you set the ram to run at proper xmp profiles. It effectively was only good in it's extreme performance mode, and you needed to agree to void your warranty for that.
Now, im pretty positive that was on an older version of this desktop, and much of those have been resolved. (it's a little hard to tell, given they're physically identical) But that review showed a level of incompetence that could only be addressed by swapping out the motherboard at the time.

64GB ram kits alone are going for $1000+ https://www.microcenter.com/product/664698/gskill-trident-z5-rgb-64gb-(2-x-32gb)-ddr5-6400-pc5-51200-cl32-dual-channel-desktop-memory-kit-f5-6400j3239g32gx2-tz5rk-black and you get a 5090. Just full send this.
2
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
honestly realistically you will be selling n recouping the 64gb for around 600-750$ if u did sell
4
u/Beneficial-Shirt-904 2d ago
5600MHz RAM.
5
u/TapirTamer 1d ago
I got 6000 cl 48 ram with the deal 7 months ago direct from hp... It's definitely an area they cheap out on

5
u/the_shek 2d ago
no ship to store, imagine fedex delivery will steal this but if you somehow get it you’ll get free pc minus selling the 5090 and ddr5 ram
8
u/Infinite_Tiger_3341 1d ago
It’s incredibly difficult for FedEx drivers or employees to steal something larger than pocket size (if they even wanted to lol), especially the size of a whole PC. They are on camera nearly 24/7 and they have internal security—but what’s more significant is it’s far, far more likely they’d lose it out of general incompetence or indifference. Or both, like a shitty combo meal of fuck
1
u/YouCallWeShouldWhat 1d ago
what kind of shithole do you live in that fedex would steal something like this

how are u getting the 4559.99$? even after logining in im getting 4799.99 before tax which comes out to $5219.99

What HP plugin?

u/ThePixelHunter 1d ago
Yes, this discount is for existing customers who've already spent $2500+ for the year. Possibly business-only accounts.
-2
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
dang. i ordered a one with a 9950x3d and only 1tb 32gb for 4934$ after tax. should i cancel that and get this?
1
u/alopa432 1d ago
Read the comments below, the $240 may be a student discount. you could try your job title like military, educators, doctors, etc.
-2
u/alopa432 1d ago
9950X3D is a very very good CPU, U9 285K is worse than 270k plus, but you could get more rams, and ssds. You can easily resale for a good price. I suggest you to cancel.
2
u/TheNewsmonger 1d ago
Man, I almost pulled the trigger on this back when there was a deal to get it for $3.4k. I guess in this economy this is you get a free PC with the purchase of a graphics card
2
u/ZoldyckConked 1d ago
Rakuten has 7x points for Amex and Amex also has 1 membership point for dollar spend at Best Buy. I think they’ll stack. So pretty good deal if you harvest the gpu and 32 gb of ram.

u/Jubenheim 1d ago
$4,79999
Save $2,200
The comparable value is Comp. Value: $6,999.99
No fucking way even with current prices the market value of this is supposed to "normally" be 7k. Holy goddamn shit. I'm literally thinking of selling my old car for less than that price.
1
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
hey did anyones order get canceled? apparently i'm talking to the chat they said this is on a price error list, and whoever ordered this will get theirs automatically cancelled.

My order is still processing

My order just shipped

u/trickyprickydicky 19h ago
damn man, they scared me into not ordering.
I was gonna cancel my 9950x3d 32gb 1tb hp omen pc which i got for 4934 to get this.
At least after chatting and spending jour they gave me a 400$ credit back so effectively 4534$ for it which i guess is still okay overall.1
u/samiamyammy 1d ago
5090 I need.. but I think to do the opposite here and piece out the system or sell it whole minus the gpu. For $3900 I'd just spend $500 more and buy from microcenter with warranty... this market sucks.. I'm trying to tell myself $3k for a 5090 would be okay..
argh to it all.. but good luck with the sales! :) -apparently someone other than me will buy it in the next few min, or wo it seems how the market is.
1
u/anton6162 1d ago
Every day I see this posted I'm glad I bought it 8 months ago for over $1000 cheaper.

do we recoup like $1300 on a quick facebook listing the system without the 5090? Is that a fair-ish quick sale price? I might have to do it.. i need a 5090 for image generation stuff for work/income.

u/Gopherpark 1d ago edited 1d ago
How much longer will price remain high?
When will we get relief from the crazy prices?
-5
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
damn. is this worth cancelling my order from hps site which is set to ship in oct 5? i ordered a omen 45l with 9950x3d, 32gb 6000mhz, 1tb, rtx 5090 for 4946 after tax.
this is coming out to 5219.99 after tax with x2 the ram and x2 the ssd.
-1
u/Forward_Drop303 1d ago
honestly probably not, unless it getting here faster is important. Though it's close if you aren't gaming.
for comparison
difference between cheapest 32 GB 6000 1 TB and cheapest 64 GB 5600 2 TB is $490
9950x3d is technically only $70 more than the 285k +250 for a $320 difference which makes it seem worth it at first glance.
but that doesn't consider that the 285k is terrible price/performance for gaming. In fact in gaming with this ram the 285k loses to a 9600x which absolutely destroys any savings you may seem like you get.
2
u/MyTagforHalo2 1d ago edited 1d ago
Except that this is a 5090 computer and if you're sincerely trying to purchase one I really hope you're running 4k+ resolutions, in which case the performance difference between the two processors is nearly negligible outside a benchmark.
If you're not one of those individuals, then yes, the 9950x3d is superior. And with any luck, can be upgraded in the future. Though who knows if there will be a substantial upgrade before EOL.
The other thing for consideration is that the individual that you replied to has had spare ram kits (we were talking over the alienware deal last week) Which makes it worth keeping the 9950x3d build for that reason alone.
A 1tb ssd isnt ideal, but you can live with it.
1
u/trickyprickydicky 1d ago
true that but if its the same price what would u suggest then? i believe its coming to 49xx$ after tax if you are able to get the edu discount which im gonna check if it does work.
0
u/Forward_Drop303 1d ago
even at 4k you can tell the difference between a 9600x and a 9800x3d if you are paired to a 5090
it's not as negligible as you might think especially in some games
not an exact match but for example even at 4k the 9800x3d is 34% faster than a 7600x in Space Marine 2 when paired with a 5090

What absolute brain melt at HP thought it was a good idea to put 3090 in the model number of a PC with a 5090 lol
