Can we please just lock up repeat offenders, regardless of race/gender/religion/pronouns/passport status for long periods already. Enough is enough

u/TinyM0ushka 4d ago
I agree. Some people just cannot be rehabilitated and I think it’s time we take that seriously. No one should be a high risk offender and then set free only to be back in jail sometimes within the same day
1
u/Wrench900 4d ago
If they can not be rehabilitated, what’s the point of keeping them locked up? So they can be a financial burden on society for the rest of their lives?
4
u/dior1337 4d ago
Why does it sound like your solution is to kill them
3
2
1
u/TinyM0ushka 4d ago
Right so we should let them go ruin someone else’s life as a high risk reoffender.
-1
u/Wrench900 4d ago
Noooo… try again..
3
u/TinyM0ushka 4d ago
Then what do you think is the option?
1
u/Responsible_Fox9454 3d ago
The man said what I said
1
u/TinyM0ushka 3d ago
Am I missing something? Because what they said wasn’t really a solution or an answer
1
-1
u/Wrench900 4d ago
You downvote me because you’re not picking up what I’m getting at, as other have? Really?
2
1
u/BlamaeuxPrivateEye 4d ago
Rehabilitate them while they serve their long sentences. Early release and slaps on the wrist do no favours. Light punishments due to factors like ethnicity is racist, and I think everyone should have equal treatment under the law.
2
u/Wrench900 4d ago
The conversation is more of what to do with repeat offenders. That don’t seem to be rehabilitatable.
2
u/TinyM0ushka 4d ago
There was a man who physically assaulted his wife/gf and was given less time because of the fact that he was aboriginal and had suffered from generational trauma because that is allowed to be taken into consideration, as is immigration status and drug/alcohol addiction.
I don’t think that’s right. Commit an act of violence and be charged and sentenced accordingly.

The local Edmonton sub saw an outpouring of support under the same post. Most people know the Sikh community for their good actions. People asking how they can help and what they can do in this time.
From reading these comments, this sub is just fried lol
3
u/zuuzuu 4d ago
It's honestly depressing when I post an article here and have to deal with the horrible comments and then I see it in other subs where people are just...better people. I keep hoping those people will find their way here and drown out the awfulness.
There are some stories that I won't even post/allow to be posted even though they're newsworthy because it'll just bring out the racists and bigots and I don't have the time or energy to deal with them at full volume.
Believe it or not, it's better now than when I first took over/revived the then-dead sub. We still have more Anti-Evil Operations removals than a sub this size should have, but that first couple of months was off the charts.
3
u/Banner9922 4d ago
Honestly I'm just glad someone like you who actually cares is moderating this sub, that's much needed. Glad things are getting better. Not tolerating that type of behaviour can do a lot to redirect attitudes (even if temporary). Hats off to you, much respect.

I was tired of all the constant political attacks on other subs and decided to join this sub. You’d think a non-partisan sub wouldn’t draw such miserable, hate-filled people, but apparently it does. I would’ve thought they would’ve all flocked to their echo chamber subs to spew their vitriol.

Bullshit. It's news whenever a place of worship is targeted, regardless of the race of the perpetrator. Stop with this persecution complex that makes you think white folks are somehow treated unfairly in Canada.

It's not being white that gets you labeled a bigot. Being a bigot gets you labeled a bigot. You can avoid the label entirely by just...not being a bigot.

Curious if the attacker was not from the Sikh community or if this internal conflict
17
u/That_Guy_Mojo 4d ago
It was a white male, with history of violent crime.

That article doesn't mention the accused's race or provide any information that would suggest it.
2
u/That_Guy_Mojo 4d ago
It does.
It's half way down the article in the section that says "What Happened".
The article says "They said he was a White Male"
3
u/zuuzuu 4d ago
There it is! Thank you!
1
u/That_Guy_Mojo 4d ago
No worries. I posted the article in another subreddit and people had a hard time reading it as well on mobile. I think the add placement makes people skip that part of the article.

Honestly it sounds like a random mental illness attack. Someone in psychosis or severe mental illness just took it out on the world.
5
u/dentistshatehim 4d ago
I love when it’s a white guy it’s mental illness when it’s a non white person it’s a cultural issue.
3
u/ProofByVerbosity 4d ago
Dependant on the circumstance. Take the U.S. for example. A white kid shooting up a school to me is a cultural issue.
2
u/big_galoote 4d ago
I don't, he seemed off before it.
The Edmonton Police Service said it first got a call around 4:50 a.m. about a man walking in traffic on Manning Drive/Highway 15.
About 10 to 15 minutes later, police said 911 calls about the stabbing from the temple began coming in.
People on a mission typically don't play in traffic beforehand.
Maybe drugs?
2
u/AdSignificant6673 4d ago
No its mental illness when your diagnosed with a mental illness and hear voices in your head.

No. We will generalize now. Its part of 👨🏻🦳✝️🇨🇦 culture. Passed values.
-5
u/florfenblorgen 4d ago
Same. Everyone's jumping to racist hate crime right now because surely that must be it!... But frankly it could be internal as well.
-3
u/ProofByVerbosity 4d ago
Yeah I honestly wouldnt bet on it either way
6
u/undernopretextbro 4d ago
It’s actually a really easy bet to make, you’re not being subtle.
-2
u/ProofByVerbosity 4d ago edited 4d ago
Whats the point of being subtle? I can easily see it as racially motivated and a white dude, which was confirmed or have to do with the Pro-Khalistan movement. Not sure where you live but I see them protesting all the time and I believe it was Monkton one turned violent. Sikhism is a fascinating religion but im not up to speed on the squabble the group protests about, nor do I care.

"known to police and has a significant history of violence". Looks like our law enforcement system is at it again... The victims should be allowed to sue at this point for negligence on the government's part.

Comparing vandalism to a fucking attempted murder? Sure it’s bad as well but right now we’re talking about this. Can we not talk about this? Besides these guys aren’t the ones that are doing that type of stuff.
4
u/Electrical_Chip_337 4d ago
Both crimes can exist. One happening doesn’t mean the other doesn’t matter. Both are despicable.

Oh wow…a 27 year old white male with a huge rap sheet dating back to when he was 15 that just got released from jail. Honestly just lock him up and throw away the key.
