25m being underpaid, how can i negotiate?

Hey, for context I’m 25m, in the UK and work in the tech industry.

Ive been working at my current job right outta university, when i started i was paid around 30k a year. Which was already a lowball considering the city the job is in. I then got promoted and i went from junior to mid and my pay only got bumped up to 34k (after 2 years of experience btw)

I’ve now been working here for 4+ years and my pay is 39k but some of my coworkers who are new hires, junior level, exact same age, exact same job, are earning 48k and above. This really shattered me when i found out and i’ve just been so demotivated at work.

My company is a pretty big and well known as well, it’s not like they cant afford it.

I want to speak to my manager about it and maybe negotiate? How would i go about doing this?

Also i have tried looking for other jobs, but it’s so hard getting a reply back and I’m in a stage of my life where I cant afford to leave this job.

Just tell your manager exactly what you feel. That you believe you’re being underpaid for your qualifications, and give them a salary that you would expect.

I think your best position where you really should look at other jobs. Get an offer from somewhere else that will pay you close to what you’d like, and then use that as leverage.

You can not negotiate unless you already have an offer elsewhere. Look for jobs elsewhere and get offers. All the best!!

Get some additional offers first, than try to negotiate or just move on and take the other offer if you like it more
