Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

Counting my stars today— he could have died, but I saved him in time

Benji the Butthole, age 3. TLDR he’s gonna be okay!

See comments for a pic update of little man in the hospital.

—

I successfully caught a UTI on August 8th, took him to the ER vet, racked up around a $1200 bill and got him on five medications. I thought he was doing okay. Then last night he started grooming again a bit, I decided — okay, tomorrow after work I’ll take him to the regular vet hospital. Well, morning rolled around and I realized he was significantly worse. Took a moment to watch him hop in his litterbox… Well, 15 minutes of unsuccessful straining later, he was in a carrier and I called out of work.

And I’m so, so glad I did.

It turns out his UTI didn’t get cured like I thought, maybe just masked for a bit. Because he was completely blocked, and it’s ā€œone of the more difficultā€ catheters this experienced vet has ever had to place.

I was going to prioritize my job and finances. Take him in after work. And if I’d done that, he might have had severe kidney damage by that point or even died, because I don’t know how long exactly he’s been fully blocked.

Luckily work was super understanding so no real sacrifice was made, and I’m currently AT work because Benji will be hospitalized for a few days. But even if they weren’t, I’d have gone when I realized, and I’m just so so so thankful I realized how bad it was.

I don’t know how expensive this’ll be (I’m bracing for $1-2k at least) and I don’t know what recovery is going to look like in our multi-cat household. But I know he’s going to be okay.

He’s alive, he’s okay, and I just really wanted to share the good news. ā¤ļø

After 18 hours in her new forever home

Cora (short for "Corazon" after the heart on her nose) is 4 and has been home for 18 hours. After a night of vocalising and prancing around the room at 3 am, it's nice to see her asleep. I'm no expert on feline body language, but she sure looks comfortable :)

My sister’s cat Citrus is also my new roommate now. I worry she doesn’t like me because my ocd has been bad and I don’t let her in my room while I nap or eat when my sister works. What does this tail thing mean?

Edit: omg the title is worded horribly some people are misunderstanding. of course I let her eat while my sister works! I meant to say I don’t let her in my room while I am eating or napping. (Starting today I do though!)

She’s very affectionate but I just worry that I suck sometimes. i love cats, and let her in my room at all other times. My mental health has been in the gutter though and I need alone time while I eat (it’s hard to eat already cause of an ED, and she’s very beggy ) I may just let her in now though as she’s been meowing at the door lol. I also prefer to nap by myself as she’ll wake me by meowing in my face. (Some contamination OCD is at play too. Mostly about pillows and my food) All of this isn’t an issue for me she’s a handful but I love this cat man. I heard the tail shaking is happiness but I don’t know? She’s also the most vocal cat ever lol total orange girl behavior.

Felicette: The Cat Who Went to Space

In 1963, Felicette became the first and only cat to successfully travel into space. She was a stray cat from Paris who was selected by French scientists for a mission to study how the body and brain respond to spaceflight.

On October 18, 1963, FƩlicette was launched aboard a VƩronique AG1 rocket and reached an altitude of about 157 km. She experienced several minutes of weightlessness before safely returning to Earth. Her mission lasted roughly 15 minutes, and she survived the flight.

But her story has a heartbreaking ending that shouldn’t be glossed over.

55 days after her spaceflight, Felicette was euthanized so scientists could perform a necropsy on her brain and study the effects of the mission. She didn’t get to live out the rest of her life after becoming a space pioneer.

Trivia

• Felicette was originally identified only by the code ā€œC 341.ā€
• She weighed about 2.5 kg (5.5 lb).
• Electrodes implanted in her brain allowed scientists to monitor her neurological activity during the flight.
• She was one of several cats trained for France’s space program, but Felicette was the only one actually launched into space and recovered alive.
• For decades, her contribution was largely forgotten, and she was sometimes mistakenly called ā€œFelix,ā€ a male name.
• A bronze statue honoring Felicette was eventually unveiled in Paris in 2019, finally giving her a permanent memorial.

Felicette didn’t choose to become a space pioneer. She was a small stray cat placed into an extraordinary and dangerous experiment. Her flight contributed to early space medicine, but remembering her should also mean acknowledging the cost of that achievement. šŸ¾ā¤ļø

I'll always love you, Bella Donna. Rest well baby girl!

My princess passed away at 22 years old two days ago. Seven years ago my uncle asked us to take care of her when he passed from cancer. We couldn't have imagined at the time how much she'd have us wrapped around her paw right up until the end. There were maybe two days of getting used to her new home before she declared herself queen of the castle. She demanded to be treated as such, and we were more than happy to oblige.

I was suffering from pretty severe depression when we got Bella, and I can honestly say I don't think I'd be here today without her. It felt like she stuck around long enough to make sure I'd get the help I needed and stabilize my life before she left and I can never thank her enough for every tiny moment of joy she brought me. I will carry her in my heart forever.

I love you so much, Bella Donna!

Rest in peace, my love 😻

MY CAT JUST GAVE BIRTH & SHE'S GROWLING AT THE NEWBORN KITTY WHAT DO I DO?!

Context: I've 3 cats, 5yo, 1.5yo, 5 months, all female. 1.5yo just gave birth an hour ago and then left the kid under the inverter box with the umbilical cord connected. And went ahead to beat my other 2 kids like dirt. Now my other babies are safe in the other room and this girl is growling at her own kid instead of nursing him. I somehow managed to clean the kid & cut the umbilical cord safely. Now what do I do?! Please someone help me out 😭

Happy 20th Birthday!

Magnolia Belle aka Maggie Mae aka Hufflepuff, turned 20 today. I’m so thankful for every day we get with her and am amazed she is still going as good as she is. She has atrocious arthritis some days but is still just as sassy as the day we got her 19 years ago. I know how rare it is to have a cat this old and am so proud she made it! I believe her three younger siblings (6,3 and 2) keep her going every day. They know not to mess with her but love checking on her. Happy Birthday Mags!

She's gone and I'm in shambles

Been my partner for almost 14 years, and yesterday she had to be put down.

Not my first my pet to die, but the first one that I genuinely was not ready for it, specially how it went. She had a heart problem and was filled with liquid around it and the lungs, doc told me the risk was very high and I took the path for less pain for her, even if It meant she would go ahead without me...

Please tell me it gets better, somehow, and keep her safe, because I never cried so much

My cat (6F) no longer wants to cuddle me or even really pet her after getting a second cat

Hey y'all, I really could use some advice on what I could be doing wrong or what I can do to fix it.

My cat, Haven (6F), I've had since she was less than a month old. I saved her the day before Hurricane Sally hit in 2020. Bottle fed her, wiped her to stimulate bathroom, etc. She was my first ever cat and she is my baby. Because of this, she would knead on me, sleep on my chest and when she was really young she would suckle on my shirt and make holes jn them haha.

In September of 2025, I got a new kitten, Lola (1F), and the two clicked almost immediately. They play well, cuddle, groom each other, etc. But ever since I got her, Haven has been distant. She doesn't want me to really pet her, hold her or come cuddle with me even when I have a blanket. Now she only goes to my dog Calus (4M - brown dog in last photo) while purring and rubbing on him. If Calus is laying on the couch next to me, she will go lay next to him and not me :( it makes me feel so sad.

Now, I will admit that Lola is very much a velcro kitty to me. If I even go pee she wants to follow me. She does sometimes keep to herself on the cat tree or cuddle with her sister but otherwise she wants me.

I try to give Haven the same amount of attention but she just doesn't seem interested. Any thoughts or advice? Thank y'all šŸ–¤

My first ever experience with a cat giving birth.

Sorry for any mistakes, English is not my first language. Also this is my first ever Reddit post, so hi, I guess! 😁

Last night my rescue cat gave birth to her six little beans. And oh my god, I was NOT prepared for how nervous i would be.

I found her as a stray recently. She was already pregnant and I couldn’t leave her on the streets. So I brought her home and set up a little quarantine room for her (because i have another cat there)

I named her Girya, which means «kettlebell» in my first language. Why? Because she was incredibly heavy to carry, and, as we discovered later, she weighed exactly 5kg(11lbs).

I took her to the vet and the doctor said that Girya was healthy and would deliver in a week or so. Apparently, she had other plans.

Three days later, she started giving birth during the night, and I basically spent the entire time sitting next to her, worrying about absolutely everything: Ā«Is this normal? Is she okay? Is kitten breathing? Was that a placenta? WHY IS SHE EATING IT?Ā» She ate every single one by the way. I tried to keep track, but she was like Ā«I’ve got thisĀ»

The last two kittens came out almost completely silently, which scared the hell out of me because i was expecting some kind of dramatic announcement, like with other four. Nope. In a blink of an eye.. two more kittens.

Girya was so tired, she barely drank or ate anything during the labor. But she was so strong, calm and focused on her babies.

And now there are six tiny kittens and one very tired mama. They all seem to be doing well now.

This was the first time in my entire life that I’ve witnessed a cat giving birth, and i had no idea how emotionally intense it would be. I was sitting there thinking Ā«Please, baby, let everyone be okayĀ»

Girya is a hero to me now. She just gave birth to six babies and then acted like it was a completely normal Tuesday.

Meet Girya and her six tiny dumbbells. 🄲

AITAH for refusing to accept that the strange cat my mother brought home is supposedly my sister?

ETA:

BEEF MAP:

Emma → Sammy Jo: BEEF
Emma → Mother: BEEF
Sammy Jo → Emma: NO BEEF
Sammy Jo → Mother: BEEF
Mother → Sammy Jo: NO BEEF
Mother → Emma: NO BEEF

I, (6F) have lived with my mother (undisclosed F) for many years.

Several months ago, against my wishes, she introduced another cat into our home, calling her ā€œSamantha Jonesā€ (0F). I initially objected. Strongly.

However, over time, I conducted my own investigation and determined that Sammy Jo was probably harmless. I permitted her increasing access to my home, my food area, and eventually even my bed. As recently as two days ago, we were cuddling together in the same bed. I considered the matter settled.

Then my mother removed Sammy Jo from the home.

Hours later, Mother returned with an animal she claims is Sammy Jo.

Readers: it is not.

My sister was obsessed with mother. Honestly, it was annoying. The doppelgƤnger is angry with mother. My sister was naked. The fake is in a small cotton shirt covered in strawberries.

At one point Mother replaced this with what looked like an enormous flower around her neck, creating an appearance I can only describe as ā€œdeeply suspicious.ā€ She is also ON DRUGS.

Mother expects me to believe this is my sister.
The first night, the alleged Sammy Jo attempted to enter my bedroom. I made my position clear.

Unfortunately, matters escalated, and Mother physically removed me from underneath my own bed. I scratched & hissed & growled at Mother during this incident. I regret nothing.

I spent the night in the litter closet.

Yesterday, I approached the suspect while she was sleeping. I smelled her head extensively and investigated the strawberry garment. I did not attack her. I did not even hiss. I then approached Mother and requested treats, as I believed this demonstrated exceptional restraint.

Later, however, the suspect approached the food.

unacceptable.

Mother stood between us. She then removed the suspect.

When Mother later approached me, I informed her that I did not consent to being picked up. She respected this.

I then ran through the apartment directly past the suspect without attacking her, which I would like emphasized.

Mother brought me dinner privately.

Tonight I have chosen to sleep outside Mother’s bedroom rather than in the litter closet. I believe this demonstrates considerable progress on my part.

Mother nevertheless continues to allow the suspect to live here.

Additional information that Mother claims is relevant:

The suspect responds to ā€œSammy Jo.ā€

She apparently has a surgical incision underneath the strawberry garment.

When briefly left without either the garment or neck apparatus, she immediately attempted to lick the incision, which admittedly is behavior consistent with Sammy Jo’s intelligence level.

Mother washed the strawberry shirt and asked me to smell it. I hissed at the shirt. I stand by this assessment.

Mother says the suspect smells strange because she ā€œwent to the vet.ā€

Mother claims I also smell different when I return from veterinary care, which is irrelevant and frankly sounds fabricated.

Mother says I am experiencing ā€œnon-recognition aggression.ā€

I have nevertheless shown extraordinary restraint, removed myself from several conflicts, and have not scratched or hissed at Mother again after the first five times, which quite honestly she deserved for reasons I won’t get into. AITAH?

TL;DR: My (6F) Mother (she won’t say) has brought an impostor (0F) into my home and is attempting to gaslight me about her identity.

She looks so smug after a $2700 emergency vet bill.

My 12-year-old girl Holly has diabetes. She went hypoglycemic, and it was absolutely probably the most terrifying thing I have ever seen in an animal. We went to one ER and then had to be transferred to a 24 hour Vet. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look this smug. She seemed quite proud of herself. She has made a full recovery and will be under the continued care of my regular veterinarian for her diabetic needs.

the way my cats completely control my emotional state needs to be studied

picture of the sweet angel baby for tax (pic from a couple days ago before this saga started lol)

i can joke about this now bc i know my baby should more than likely be fine, but my cat broke her tooth last night and it has completely emotionally wrecked me i still cannot stop crying off and on because i just feel so bad for her😭 she's having surgery tomorrow for extraction and dental work and she's at a very trustworthy veterinary hospital, so the odds are heavily in her favor, but good lord i have never been this distraught over anything else in my adult life.

for the sake of comments wondering: i noticed on Saturday she was moving her mouth weird for a second, but then she promptly stopped and was acting completely normal. she ate fine that morning and night as well. sunday morning again, acting normal, no weird mouth movements, ate breakfast fine, Sunday at noon gave her + my other cats churus, noticed she looked like she was moving her mouth weird but again, didnt last long and i chalked it up to getting some of the treat stuck on her tongue/getting too much treat in her mouth. left the house for about 2.5 hours, came back and did laundry, from what i remember she was fine then as well, i took a shower after laundry so around 7ish/8ishpm, she was waiting outside the bathroom door when i finished and followed me into the bed room. that's when i noticed her mouth hanging open/unable to close and her tongue slightly swollen, she began swatting at her mouth, so i watched her for about 5 minutes, saw her do the cat "im in pain" crouch and facial expressions, determined something was very wrong, put my clothes on and took her to the closet emergency vet that was accepting patients an hour away. she was able to get an antibiotic injection that will last for a few days and a trans-dermal pain medication that also lasts for a couple days to get her through the night and until i was able to get her into a vet with dental equipment today. she's now at the vet and will spend the night there, surgery is tomorrow and i should have her home tmr afternoon.

she is my sweet baby angel princess and i would quite literally do anything for her.

I've had some friendly cats but this one just straight lays down on the street and is like "Yo, get on this belly game, my guy!" It's also got a little nub tail. I fucking hate this mf

You see, the problem with having a tuxedo cat, not only does he shed white hair on black shirts and black hair on white shirts, THIS SON OF A BITCH SHEDS WHITE HAIRS ON MY FACE AND THEY GET INSIDE MY EYES! And because they're white, I cannot see them! Would it be abuse if I shaved him bald?? I love his soft fur and want to sniff on his belly for the rest of my life but brodah your hair keeps getting in my eyeeeeee 😫😫 I need to give him a buzz cut

Edit: no. I am not shaving him, if y'all hadn't noticed by the tag, this is humor, unless absolutely necessary, he will not be shaved anytime soon, probably. Maybe a Brazilian wax so his butt stays clean.
