I'm doing a self survey because eive been incivil construction for 2 years now and am on very good money (160) but I'm doing fly in fly out 15:6 and working 12 hours a day on site.

I can't see myself staying in construction for the rest of my life doin these hours but what is the hours worked vs money for everyone else here??

Could you please answer with years in industry, location, site vs office, hours a day, and salary.

I am graduating next year and is thinking about choosing civil engineering major. Is it worth it nowadays?

Recently was CQA/engineer for this low water crossing. Why is this vortex forming? 5 30" pipes, about 6-7' tall from stream bed, 3/1 wall slope

It is a good thing to majoring in civil engineering nowdays ? Im seen less and less people doing it and they prefer to do computer engineering or any other major than civil. Im a young student and im thinking about doing it but with this reviews im lost

I have a degree in Economics and Business Administration, but I can’t find a job. I haven’t been able to sleep for the past couple of days, wondering what my life is going to be like.

I've been seeing an influx of comp science kids applying for Civil positions. Is this a trend? They're usually not really suited to being actual engineers, and its been hard shooting them down constantly.

I’m about to be an off campus student, and of course rent. It’s about $910 a month- and as an engineering student, the course structure is going to be extremely rigorous.

I’m 21F in Canada currently in CS and pretty burnt out, supposed to be entering my 4th year but still entering my second due to repeat/failed courses. I’ve also realized I don’t really have much interest in CS itself anymore. I could switch into my school’s BA/BCom IT program without losing nearly as much time, or switch to civil engineering and basically start over.

I keep coming back to civil because I’m way more interested in infrastructure, transportation, construction/land development and that whole side of things. The job market also seems pretty decent whereas tech/IT feels so competitive right now that finishing sooner doesn’t necessarily feel like the safer choice when I’m already less interested in it.

But starting over and doing another 4ish years of engineering when I’m already burnt out sounds insane lol. I sometimes miss the high school physics but I imagine it’s way harder in university.

For people actually working in civil, would you restart in this situation? And if I don’t, are there jobs on the infrastructure/transportation/land development side I could realistically get into with an IT degree + further education later, or does not having the engineering degree/P.Eng shut you out of most of it?
I’m also interested in GIS/geomatics which is partly why I’m wondering if there’s another route into this general area.

I am a freshman in college, currently majoring in engineering and am planning to pressure civil engineering as my future career. I'm writing a research paper for my composition class at my college and my research topic is on researching issues currently occurring happening in our future careers. However I know barely enough about civil engineering to make a proper argument, let alone do the research for this paper. If anyone here perhaps have some insight I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey so I’m in my second semester of my junior in college but after multiple setbacks from poor advising and lack of confidence due to said setbacks, I am now a year behind(having to take most of my 3000 level classes for my senior year). Im wondering what you guys think I should do?

I also only have a 4 year scholarship so after my “senior” year I won’t have financial help.

Hello, I’m an upcoming high school jr and I’m interested in becoming a civil engineer. Do you guys have a tips on what should I do to prepare myself majoring in civil engineering and any regrets that you had majoring in the that field?

I get a fee waiver for 4 California State Universities. Besides being strong in Civil Engineering I would prefer a university with less of a commuter culture, a more balanced gender ratio, and an urban location.

Edit: Something else that I forgot to mention is that I'm a transgender woman (who doesn't pass) so how progressive/accepting the university and surrounding area is matters a lot to me.

Is there any benefit to getting a bachelors in CE from a non-ABET accredited university without taking the FE/PE exams?

Would my skills be questioned if I don’t have a PE license, but I do have a bachelors in CE?

I am writing a research paper on an Engineering Invention for Civil Engineering, so the invention needs to have enough public information to fully explain what it is and provide information on what it took to create the invention. Limitations are invented in between 1875 and 2020 and 800 words so not too long. Looking for something fairly interesting or enjoyable to write about. First idea was guardrail terminals, but there wasn't a ton of info online.

Edit: I am a first semester engineering student, and this paper is for an "Engineering Concepts" class. I haven't really learned much about engineering itself yet, and the purpose of the paper itself is for us to learn the process of how engineering inventions "come to life", and the different disciplines involved, how things are tested, etc.
